It was Jan '87. The last Aus Open In December was '85 and then there was no tournament played in '86.

@dtw1958 Chris did not play the Australian that year. She had an injury. I thought Hana would really start winning more Grand Slams after this match but it wasn't to be. Steffi Graf was around the corner with winning the French later that year.

Well Madlikova's game could beat anyone on her day (definately the most graceful at the time) so really her record should be as impressive as Navratilova's, but she had such a shaky mentality which led to inconsistency. 'If she had got a bit stronger with serve and groundies she should have stayed around the top for much longer, even with Graf and Sabatini coming through.
