  • such a beautiful bird!

  • I easily fapped to this

  • Nice vid...glad we got to hear the real whistle during the fly-past.

  • I like the plane but not the retarded title to many idiotic useless dramatic fools need to learn too quit adding ! !! ! ! !! in everything

  • @Viper6454 GET AN EDUCATION BEFORE MAKING STUPID COMMENTS

  • i wonder to myself if that young man has any idea how incredibly fortunate he is just to have touched that corsairs wing, my favorite plane , so much artistry in metal and history ,lucky man

  • Great video, it just needs more left channel audio

  • espectacular ! fantastico !.

  • 0:53 Very interesting, the wings come down automatically.

  • Sounds awesome, especially the whistling. but type in 'Supermarine spitfire AWESOME SOUND !!!' for a plane that sounds like a growling lion. ;)

  • 28 people who watched this video are japanese

  • Zero pilots better run for cover!

  • shit compared to german luftwaffe

  • @cryteeek thats probably why they lost the war im guessing, cuzz they were so good...

  • @qHighFlyerp quantity always beats quality fuckface. the odds was 10 against 1

  • @cryteeek u just explained to yourself why the sucked

  • @qHighFlyerp lol are you drunk, quality is the best, but in the long run quantity is better. haha fucking idiot, shove ur head out of ur ass and think again XD lol!!

  • Baa Baa Black Sheep, had these on every week when I was a kid.

  • @gdsila ~Did you read the book?

  • Seeing the Corsair, I just can't help but remember Baa Baa Black Sheep. I wonder what the Zero and Kate pilots thought when they first saw this comming at them?

  • by far my favorite airplane.... just beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • i think the corsair and the mustang are so beautiful

  • I'll bet the F4U was a handful to put back on the ground...in the landing attitude you couldn't see over the nose and had to watch the side of the runway for visual cues. I once owned a '41 Steaman and it was the same way.....except a lot slower. Its tall, stiff narrow landing gear made it tricky to land too...especially in a cross wind. I only ground looped it once...thereafter I only took it out on very calm days. I understand the Bf109 was tricky too for the same reasons.

  • To work with them in WW2 is unforgetable..great plane.

  • A lot of people don't know that this plane had the highest kill/death ratio in WWII. 10:1

  • Close but not quite. The F6F Hellcat racked up 19:1 on average and even against the best Japanese fighters, it still scored at least 3 or 4:1.

The F4U and F6F were known as the "Terrible Twins". The F4U shot down 2,140 planes

for the loss of 189, 11:1.

I'd have loved to fly one in WW2.

  • @sackitt16 Do the kills accredited to the Hellcat include planes that were destroyed while on the ground?

  • No, it seems that the ratio scored by the Hellcat pertains to air combat only.

  • @MercenarySlick I though the F6F did.

  • Sounds great to us... sounds like a nightmare to the people on the other end of the guns.

  • 25 people were zero pilots who heard the whistling death

  • I love these! Amazing!

  • A question, how did the F4U Corsair and F-4 Phantom didn't get in conflict in registry? I mean they both have F4 having the difference of U for the corsair and other letters for the Phantom.

And by the time the F4U Corsair was built, does F already meant Fighter? Cause back then, ain't the Allied Aircrafts using P (pursuit) for their Fighters?

  • @themangix357 The Navy was already using F for its fighter designations (witness the F4F, F6F, F8F, etc.). The Army was using P.

  • I like the F4U Corsair more than I like the P-51 Mustang

  • It sends chills down my spine every time I hear the F4U taking off.

  • I flew a a plane like that back in the world war 2

  • One of my favorite WWII aircraft. Just beautiful to see one flying. Such incredible power!

  • can you imagine what i'd be like if the wings flowed up in flight?

  • @sirkieranis wings will the same momet crack...there were accidents in WW2 how I heard...

  • My dad owed his survival to this plane. He was in the Pacific for WWII.

I have microsoft flight simulator, this is my favorite plane off all.

  • shshshsh shooo glarg glarg glug! excelent!

  • The Corsair was certainly not the prettiest gal at the party, but I'm glad she was there!

  • Christmas is in two days and I forgot to ask for one of these. Damn

  • カッコイイ

  • Left ear heard the whistling better.

  • She is a beaut!

This is one of the planes that helped us take back the Pacific. And there's just something about those wings that makes this plane look so cool. At least I think so

  • AMAZING.

  • These old warbirds are a thing of beauty. Love the video, you did a great job.

  • Not sure about it being called 'Whistling Death' However and I Quote 'Whispering Death' was the name the Japanese gave to the Bristol Beaufighter when it went into service in the Far East.

  • @GSP21 no that because the sound it made in a dive the japanese called that becasue that was sound they heard before bombed

  • those wings are really sexy, nice machine

  • Felicidades por el vídeo !!.- El Corsair, uno de los mejores aviones de la II Guerra Mundial.-

  • Corsair is still really dreadful warbeast

  • no wonder the Marines loved this bird.

  • Sweet....

  • Beautiful aircraft.

  • Beauty. And the sound of the R2800, music!

  • I thought I recognized Palm Springs. Went there a few years ago. The WWII Air Museum was awsome!

  • Just been reading about the stripping back to its original paintwork of KD431 at Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm museum , UK. But you can't beat hearing and seeing these WWII planes flying. You've got to love theF4U Corsair with its huge prop and characteristic gull wings. Thanks good vid.

  • @stewjw: Hey, thanks for watching my video. When you say that you've been reading about the "archaeological" investigation of Corsair KD431, I am assuming you are talking about the book "The Time Capsule Fighter; Corsair KD431." I have the book and have read it; just fascinating!

    Thanks!

  • @octane130 can you please email me this video please, i could really use the video for a school project

  • the corsair and p51 mustang are the tow prettiest planes every made....just beautiful, thanks

  • @TheNekkidOne have to put the spitfire in the group

  • It's, just, so, beautiful...

  • The deadly Aircraft of VMF-214 The Black Sheep Squadron, Happy Birthday Pappy, R. I. P.

  • nice video!

  • Pterodaktyl

  • 25 people are unAmerican

  • The "whistling death" sound is made by the oil coolers in the leading edge of the wings. The Corsair was an amazing plane - the first plane we had in the war that would do over 400 in level fight. Thanks for posting this, even though 25 idiots with no taste gave it a thumbs down, the rest of us appreciate it!

  • @mcm95403 Oil coolers don't make noise. Superchargers do. No need to know anything about airplanes to know the sounds engines make.

  • @m1t2a1 AIRFLOW through the oil coolers DOES make noise - otherwise all supercharged airplanes would make the same whistling noise, right? The sound was specific to the Corsair because of the leading edge mounted oil coolers and the shape of the cooling vanes in those oil coolers.

  • Comment removed

  • F4U Corsair. Made by Vought Aircraft.

  • "ele vai "carça" o que?

  • muito louko!

  • DAMN!!!!!!!!i could have watched that all day

  • The whistling comes from the props

  • /RTic83 I believe the noise came from the oi/ coolers locateed in the wing roots

  • @RTic83 Yes, almost 14 feet, side to side. They say she was gull winged to give the prop enough room to swing without striking the turf !

  • @RTic83 I think actually it is from the supercharger air inlets. A cool sound no doubt - whistling death is what Japanese pilots called it.

  • @Scrimmer08 The Bf 109 also makes a cool whisting sound as it passes by

  • @BlackPhantomJambo .. gotta love the sound of those super-chargers (i.e. the whistling noise), huh? it's a thing of beauty.

  • Totally...... Awesome

  • Wing expansion is automatically by electric?

  • where's the whistling come from??

  • @auvar100 I think it has to do with the big radiators on the leading edge next to the fuselage. Could be mistaken though.....

  • @auvar100 The Japanese called it that,,,, I guess "watch out for that plane " was already taken

  • Yes, I agree ha

  • Thank you, octane130, for NOT putting music to the video. I'm sure the other 1,249,178 people would agree with me.

  • @EllmoPilot Who needs music? This beast comes with it's own soundtrack built in!

  • O Melhor.......aces higth

  • Stunning aircraft, amazing sound!! This and the beloved Spitfire are my faves

  • i love the sound of that whistle

  • I am gonna watch this on repeat with the volume up loud while I hammer away on my wife. ;-p

  • @just4playin1 How about you watch the video while I hammer your wife?

  • @mrceebees14 Sure, since I am pretty sure the video would last longer than you. ;-p

  • @just4playin1 Damn, she is that good?

  • @mrceebees14 Oh yeah she is... ;-p

  • @just4playin1 Does she have a hairy snatch? Only like girls with hairy bush, shaved is for fags.

  • @mrceebees14 Nope she is a shaver. Makes munchin easier... lol

  • @just4playin1 pfft. hairy locks in the flavor and aroma. : )

  • @mrceebees14 Also hides critters and many other undesirable things. ;-p

  • @just4playin1 That is called treasure.

    I love treasure.

  • @mrceebees14 Hahahaha

  • My favorit plane. Is´nt it a beauty? That´s an aircraft.

  • What a line!

    What a sound!

Best propeller fighter of all time!

  • One of the most beautiful and nostalgic planes of all time. Thanks for posting.

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • Ive never heard a sexier whistle.

  • @DaTANkKiLLa The P-51 has a sexier Whistle/Howl

  • I think one of the best kills in WWII was made by a Corsair. Some pilot (Forgot his name) Actually downed an aircraft with the propeller because it was so gigantic.

  • 23 people got shot down.

  • my left ear enjoyed this video...

  • Zero: Nimble fast plane which could get shot down with a BB gun... heheheh, F4U: A BEAST SPORTING 6 .50 CAL, TOUGH, FAST, NIMBLE... only one airplane beats this, the MUSTANG!

  • jaime cette avion

  • amazing plane

  • I love the wing shape!

  • Well done, notwithstanding the audio casualty. What peak torque @ rpm is typical of the R-2800? That would have a bearing on throttle and prop pitch for a "your signal max conserve" order when holding on station or over the carrier.

  • 1 way sound :(

  • zero beast manuvarlbility, f4u coraiar beats all.

  • Me 109 shooting it down

  • Its got a realy nice shape but I think the engine wants to tell every one that ..I AM FUCKING RETIRED!!!!!!!!! Now piss off and leave me alone in the museum or get me a new power plant for this fucker if you wanna see it fly!

  • De los mejores en el mundo

  • Whispering Death

  • Not a pretty aeroplane, but it provided the goods in just the right amount. Easy to build and maintain, long range (the long nose is due to an extra tank that was shoehorned in between pilot and engine), fast (especially with emergency water injection) and well armed and armoured. Brits used them on carriers first after the US Navy had said they were too dangerous due to poor forward vision (due to that long nose). One of my favourites. I think they had a 17 to 1 kill ratio.

  • @AlfredTupper Agree, not a 'pretty' airplane - see Supermarine Mk IX Spitfire or North American P 51D Mustang.

But some radial engine aircraft were brutish-handsome, this is one.

Republic P 47 Thunderbolt and Douglas A 1 Skyraider also come to mind.

  • Not a Pretty airplane ? This is the most lovely of all the prop driven aircraft made.

  • SEXY!

  • WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE SOUND

  • Jap Zeros worst nightmare...they don't want to tangle with this fighter plane in the Pacific during WW2

  • Rebuild a fleet of them, and send them back over japan to take out the toyota and nissan plants!!

  • @dhbiza Ive been thinking about that for years!!!

  • I love the sound of those old radial engines, you always know when one is in the air nearby.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice clip. Love this aircraft. Always amazed at the amount of realestate between the front of the cockpit to the prop. Looks very long!!

  • As I recall, 3 banks of 9 cylinders for a total of 27 cylinders and a supercharger, yes whistling death.

  • @lucittm Nope, two rows of nine cylinders, 18 cylinder engine. The biggest was the R-4360,four rows of seven cylinders, 28 total, supercharged, injected. Mostly used on bombers and larger aircraft, six of them powered the Convair B-36 peacekeeper, set up as pushers with dual counterrotating props and two jet engine pods to assist on takeoff.

They used and leaked a hell of a lot of oil.

  • @Oldbmwr100rs I'ts my understanding that the USN prefered radial engines over in-line engines because a radial could lose one or two cylinders and still get you home while an in-line would most likely sieze up. How much of a gas-guzzler was it compared to a 38's Allison, a 51's Packard/Merlin, or a 47's Pratt/Whitney? Just curious. Thanx

  • @TheSV3 Another big and the major reason behind radials was weight to power ratio as well as less complexity,at least from the point of not having water cooling. The Nave was running an air racing series throughout the 20's and 30's to have companies push aircraft engine design to it's limits, and it paid off in the end with these huge engines.

I have no idea what the consumption was like with then, but I'd figure in pounds per minute range when the throttle was firewalled!

  • @Oldbmwr100rs Good enough. I've understood that an air-cooled enginge was "superior" to a liquid-cooled for the same reasons: easy to main & less tendency to sieze up if hit. As far as fuel consumption goes, combat WILL make a big difference from cruise speed; both of which I'm after, but I can find that out for myself. Thanx again for your reply.

  • The golden age of planes.

  • Best. plane. ever! :D

  • strange why counter-clockwise rotating engine)

  • What I find amusing is that the US Navy rejected the Corsair as a carrier plane, only changing their mind after seeing the Royal Navy master its use on their flattops.

  • The engine sound is so unique!! I think I'm going to crap my pants.

  • @mysteryman3666 That's the same motor used in the Hellcat.

  • I wonder how one of these would of done against a ME109 or Fw 190?

  • If you are strictly speaking about the "fighter" (and not ground attack) catagory, the 109 woud have little chance against the Corsair. The 190, on the other hand, is the superior aricraft of the two at altitude. It was lighter but had (roughly) the same horsepower so was both faster and more manuverable. The call it the "Butcher Bird" for a good reason. .

  • christ that prop is a monster

  • my left ear enjoyed the engine noise :P

  • Vought FU. I mean F4U. EASILY as pretty as the Mustang (D model) or Spitfire. Maybe even more so in some ways. Then again, a P-38 Lightning or a P-40 with a great big smile, just may be the ticket. Let us not even speak of Yaks, Zeros or Messerschmitts.

  • While it became an effective fighter plane, the F4u had many troubles.Designed as carrier based fighter, it was extremely dangerous to take off and land. This was due to a bouncing problem. It also had a nasty high stall speed that caused the plane to death spin as it had a funny balance point and a very heavy propeller.

  • The two Pilots who were "taken and changed" by this movie for the plot actually flew two P-36 Hawks.

  • Having had the chance to know a corsair pilot from ww2 and actually meet a test pilot for Vaught Sikorsky it was discovered that the louvers on the oil coolers actually causer the whistling .

  • wonderful sight and sound! Love the F4U

  • Thump wump wump wump wump wump

  • 22 people would rather be speaking japanese or german right now

  • i'm aroused, i don't know if i need to make love to it or worship it, What a bad ass plane!

  • @ridenhi79 I would do both if possible. Man, what a machine. I just love that sound.

  • nice to know that there are old planes still flight worthy

  • One of the most beautiful airplanes ever built. Inverted gull wings to allow for the twelve foot ( I think ) prop. Carriier based if needed. A USN and USMC big ole can of flying whoop ass.

  • I love the sound of the supercharger as she flies by...

  • Being that they were Marine/ Carrier based, do ALL models of the Corsair have the folding wings? Are some of them fixed? Perhaps recreations? Anybody?

  • My Gandfather Arney Masters was a Corsair pilot during WW2. He was involved in a bombing strafing run on a Japanese supply convoy and was shot down over the Pacific by a Japanese battle cruiser that was running escort and survived. He died of colon cancer in 1986. I wish he was still alive and I could show him these videos.

  • @myNifty350 I wish he was still alive too, so we could say "THANKS" as many times as possible. Sounds like you had a great grand dad.

  • 23 people fly Japanese zeros.

  • @furtjager117 no they don't they would be dead and not able to vote :)

  • @furtjager117 Deaf* Zero pilots.

  • Great Plane, a awesome Video. 5*****

  • Go Black Sheep ...love you guys!!!!!

  • +top vid *****

  • My Dad told me after the WWll you could pick one up for 800.00-1000.00 bucks if you kept your eye open with no gas in it.....Scrap it or fly it..just aluminum.. he said it was no big deal to see them lined up on tarmacks, as with everything after the war we had tons of it, and nothing to do with it! fighter aircraft were worthless and useless..if you couldnt make a buck with it!

  • すげえ!油圧で自力で翼が開くのか!知ってはいたが贅沢な機構だな。アメリカ機は!

  • @damedamewanko

Nihongo wa wakaranai. Eigo ka romaji de kaite kudasai. =)

  • @fabianromano

    OK.

    It's great!

Do wings open for oneself according to the oil pressure?

The United States machines have indeed luxurious mechanisms though I knew.

  • What a great design and fantastic sound!!!

  • is it just me or is that prop on backwards?

  • @forcedejection Its just you, it's on the correct way round. :)
