@TreasureChestReviews That doesn't make a lot of sense dude. The car wouldn't get weaker over time. Parts like the engine and stuff may break but that doesn't mean the care itself would become flimsy.
Bel air was manipulated; they played very dirty... Changed engine for one more smaller v6 and frame was rusted and... ladder: a witness saw it. If they want to try change public opinion, they will mistake. Fortunately, many people knows crash tests are so old like automotion. You can see it in youtube.
I think it's a shame anyway to crash a 59 Chevy. But if you had to do a stupid commersial like this then someones got to do it. In a way it is good to show how safety has become safier.
You might crash like this if one of the drivers fell asleep on a two-lane road. I was in a car crash like that, luckily the driver woke at the last minute and we scraped sides. My Dad was in the passenger seat and the only one in the car awake after a day at the beach in Grand Isle, LA. He woke the driver up at the last second.
who crashes like this anyways, the driver of the 59 would have walked away if it wasn't this type of an accident. Crash 'em head on, let's see who lives.
@djkurse1 - You do realize they don't judge "safety" based ONLY on this video right? There's a damn good reason why we have actual scientists analyzing these things and not random people on the internet.
@infringementMAN cars nowadays are all junk, all plastic, You back up into a barrier or pole and what happens your plastic bumper gets smashed in, do that in a car with an actual metal bumper, like on here in this vid, not a scratch on it.
Or it falls off in an accident and as reenforcement it has styrofoam. Come on.
@djkurse1 I was told that I should buy a car between the 30s and 89. I was told that it was safer because todays car is like riding in cardboard. I may listen to this advice but there are down side like unavailable parts for older models and gas guzzling engines. I was told that I should look into buying an old car that uses diesel. She said that you can ride all day on diesel though it is a little more expensive..I saw a benz 83 that might be useful. can you give me any tips?
@djkurse1 sure but look at how far the impala peeled into the door of the Bel Air, while the Impala's door was barely even warped. Old cars had zero energy absorbing crumple zones as opposed to what we have in cars today to absorb that kind of kinetic energy.
@djkurse1 Also notice how the driver's area of the 2009 is still intact, as opposed to the bel-air which now has the engine of the 2009 where the driver should be
DESTROY THIS CLASSIC CAR....STUPID IDEA !!
PIECE OF SHIT !! PRESERVE THE STORY NOT DESTROY !!!
FUCK FUCK FUCK

@olditaliancarlover By showing what could happen to unthinking Bel Air drivers, they probably saved a lot of Bel Airs in the process.

1959 driver DEAD or severe injuries 09 driver walks away.. end of story.
A quick check on the net of the general auto death statistics per 100,000 population
as per one source on the net 1958 rate 21.4
and per 2009 rate 11.01
The purpose is NOT to have your car in great shape after the crash, But to prevent them from carrying your head home in a bucket

look how far back the silver 2009 front end is at 1:25!! Now look at the bel-air, much safer in the older car.
Oh good thing it wasn't the 59 impala.
