  • Have to drop by to hear your mom's chuckle once again. I know where you heart is....

  • so sad i currently work at a home with people that have alzhemers so sad

  • Not a pitbull and very overweight but awesome video

  • @tekkchick - It's in the title and in the comments that he's a pit mix. He's half pit and half lab. And yep he was overweight when my sister inherited him back in 2006 when this video was taken. Within a couple months she had his weight down. Anyway the point of my video was to show how loyal and loving these dogs can be with the right owners. Peace out.

  • @sporty04 Got that.

  • 2/11/2011 - We miss and love you more than ever Mom.

Love, your kids, Richie, Shell & Deb.

  • i seen that and i wanted to cry i thought that was so special that dogs like that can do that i know when my mom was alive my pit use to be there for her to and use to pull her around her chair and lay on her lap and by her side when she passed so i know how special these dogs can be with people

  • this was beautiful! they both were.

  • Your Momma is with my Momma in heaven now with all sorts of animals to cuddle! Sorry for your loss, though. It looks like your doggy was a greath therapist to your Momma!

  • Cute video. Dogs have the power to bring out the best from people.

I love waking up to my wiggly butt pit bull and enjoy our walks in the morning. People great my dog just to see her cute smile and the wagging butt. They make the best therapy dogs.

  • hi ty for ur msg there are a few patients were i work when they speak its not clear but i still talk to them and they seem so happy

  • sorry for your loss i work in an alzhiemers home and its so sad. im glad i can help them pass the day talkin to them and other stuff

  • @nikki33100

Thank you for your kind words. It's so important to give alzheimers patients attention when they need it. My Mother was one of the few at the facility who lost the ability to form legible words so even though she couldn't carry on a conversation, SHE thought her responses were coming out clear.

  • It's been over 6 months that I have been without a Mother and I can't tell you all how hard it has been even though I'm an adult. Still very difficult for me to watch this video without tears streaming down my face but I am thankful I shot the footage. You all have been so supportive and again I don't know what I would have done without that. Hugz to all.

  • that was so sweet...sorry for your loss..

  • @eugenecollard

    thank you very much.

  • very very sad...my grandpa had alzheimers

  • Your song is sad....but i like to see your mother smile (but I am crying cause the song is too sad).., love your video though--happy song-though

  • Thank you for your comments. The song does make it sad and actually very difficult for me to watch but I am glad I have this video of her. We miss my Mother very much.

  • M

Thank you so very very much........This is so special to me...so glad to see it again.

My prayers are always.....our mothers are always....and our hearts travel the same path...

    Christie

  • I'm sad to announce that my Mother Jackie (woman in the video) passed away on July 6th, 2009 at 77 years old, after a decade plus battle with Alzheimers. I'd like to thank you all for the kind comments and supportive pm's. It has been a long and difficult road and we miss her terribly. Thanks again to all of you. Peace.

    Michele

  • still interested in your mother.........she has touched my heart and I can not seem to forget her face........she is as my mother, sick with the disease and loving her dog....she is loving in my prayers.

  • :-)

  • great video! Beautiful dog and I just love your mom's laugh!!

  • That was a beautiful and very touching video. Thank you for being such a great pit owner, and a great daughter. Love your mom; she's the only one you'll ever get. Love your pit; he loves you more than life itself.

  • BLESS you for sharing this wonderful video and for showing the softer loving side of this incredible breed and as a vet tech thank you for cutting down on his groceries!!

  • Sweet video but you need to put that dog on a diet!

  • Posted this video almost two years ago. He has long since lost the fat. Thanks for the comment!

  • I wish you and your mother the best of everything. Will always have her in my prayers.

  • Thank you so much.

  • Superb!! georjous dog. Best of luch to your mum. I know its a hard time

  • Thank you for being so good to your dog. Love him and spoil him!

  • What a sweet sweet video. I just love your momma and the pup, It lifts my heart, and I wish your momma well.

  • this video made my heart melt.

  • that is not a pitbull....

  • Yes he is a pit. I have better photos of him after he slimmed down, but this comment section won't let me post links. :-(

  • He is, he's just incredibly chubby for a pit. :P

  • Great Video, shows these dogs for the wonderful canine friends they truly are. Our dog Glory served four generations, including my dad who had Alzheimers. She was such a blessing to us and everyone in the family. They get such a undeserved bad rap.

  • Great clip . Its a win win situation for mom and dog. They look so happy to be in the company of each other.

  • Lido, what loveball...thanks for posting this wondrous video...

  • Yes he is a loveball. My sister "inherited" him from our uncle who passed away in Jan 2006. My uncle's gf was supposed to take the dog but my sister offered because the gf had a small house and too many dogs already. Now Lido and my sister are inseparable. Fate is a funny thing. Thanks for the thoughtful comment. :-)

  • I can only imagine it to be a full time job and my thoughts are with you, your mother, and Lido.

    /watch?v=g8JcbuhWc_A

  • this is amazing... they are the best!!! but hey this dog is fat! must do something about

  • I work in the memory impaired unit at an assisted living facility, where I spend my days taking care of 21 residents that suffer from Alzheimers. It must be a full time job for u having ur mom at home with u.

  • Hi

It was a full time job for my brother and I for 9 years. Since Feb 23, 2007 our Mom has been living in an alzheimers facility. We visit every day and bring the dogs sometimes. While she has declined a lot since this video, she still responds to the dogs.

  • It's great that u visit her everyday. So many of my residents never get a single visit. We are their family. Stay strong, u are in my prayers. I wish u the best of luck. Take good care my friend:-)

  • Thank you for the nice comments. She's my Mother. I can't imagine not being there for her every day.

  • i feel for you my grandpa also has alzheimers

  • Truley touching!

  • wow that made me smile beautiful video, i am glad to hear that Lido has lost weight hope your mom is well

  • Sorry my mistake. He needs to be on a diet.

  • Reeee-lax people. I'll repeat the story for those who haven't back at the beginning of the comments.

My sister inherited Lido from our uncle back in 2006. She started walking him regularly and he now weighs 88lbs and looks great.

  • My father has M.S. and alzheimers. He dosent have any animals with him (my parents are seperated) and I can tell that he is depressed. He can't work anymore so he stays at home and most likely if he gets a big country dog, it will help him keep busy. Its not that they cure you completely, they just keep you company to reduce the chances of becoming depressed.

  • you gots yourself a chubby little pit bull

  • Looks like half lab half pit, but either way it's my two favorite kind of dogs. This reminds me of Patch Adams, laughter can cure any illness.

  • that is not a pitbull

  • He most certainly is.

  • he is a pit bull...love them, and this is very touching. thank you. going through the same thing and my mother's sheltie is her saving grace as well.

  • course it is! and they are great pets... I miss so fucking bad mine who passed away

  • Awesome! I have a black Lab named Sophie that I too take to visit my grammy who has Alzheimers at her facility. My Grammy just lights up when Sophie comes in, as do the other patients there. Sophie just wanders around saying "Hi" to everyone and eventually comes back to find me when she's done. Pets are wonderful therapy! Keep it up!

  • very great video.... :-)

  • I am my Mom's caregiver, she is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's as well. We have two dogs and they make my Mom smile big like that too.

  • i think this video is great,

it shows that pitbulls arent what people make them to be.

  • I watch this vid at least once a week. 12 Pittie paws up!!!! Hugs to Mom!

  • Yep, that's the killer pit bull that'll eat your kids.

    GREAT VIDEO!

  • Great video!

My "Pit" Mac used to go and visit my Dad and others in a Nursing home.He went in with his "grin" and most residents were grinning by the time he left.

Love to see "Pits"(especially) doing this.

One resident only spoke to Mac.

  • Great video, I love dogs and all animals too!

  • What A beautiful video!

  • wonderful video!! I work with alzheimers pts. and they respond to children and pets when nothing else can reach them. Your Mom looks very, very happy! Your doing a wonderful job! God bless

  • i lost my gran 8 yrs ago to alzheimers and i miss her so much! r.i.p gran!

  • found this vid by accident looking up vids on pitt legislation. It is a great example of what this wonderful breed can be. Everyone please check with your local SPCA and keep UTD on whether or not your local reps are trying to legislate pitts out of existence. Get involved. Also, support legislation that bans chaining dogs and punishes irresponsible owners. You can do a lot by these simple steps.

  • That's awesome. I started a pet therapy group here in Tampa for exactly that reason; we're getting the animals certified next week.

Thanks for posting - very moving. Good luck

  • that is one fat dog. she needs to do some exercise and lose some weight. nice video tho

  • Thanks eedmaster. The dog is a he, not a she. And I'm happy to report that he now weighs 88lbs and he clearly looks and feels so much better.

Thank you and everyone else for the nice comments.

  • Beautiful. I just lost my mom, and our poit was amazing with her too.....

  • How incredibly sweet...thank you for showing that wonderful footage of such a beautiful moment your mom experienced with you and the pup. Why I love Eden Alternative LTC homes.

  • What a wonderful video! I have a great pit bull named Mindy, and her obedience trainer nearly begged me to put her through therapy training. After seeing this video, I think I've made my decision to do it. Look how happy the dog and your mom are! Now I'm all warm and fuzzy inside!

  • any dog with the right temperment can be a perfect dog for that type of work. and I mean ANY dog, I hope your dog loves it ^.^

  • Thank you! Your comment made me smile.

  • Really sweet!

  • I work with alzheimers patients and I own 2 Pitbulls. I have a deep love for the pt.s and the dogs. Thank you, it made me cry!

  • That was nice its sad to see someone with alzheimers.

I watched my great grandmother and grandmother suffer with this the last years of their lifes.

This video brought a tear to my eye as well until the girl commented on the other girl getting her crack in the shot and then I cracked up

  • What a wonderful dog. Such a blessing this dog is. We all could learn a lot from dogs.

  • that is awesome of you :) thanks for posting this vid

  • very dangerous dog lol :P

    nice movie

  • I'm back to report that my Mom is now

living in an Alzheimers Care Facility

but she is doing well despite additional

    trouble discovered with her heart.

The dog (Lido) is now down to a slim and

    trim 88 lbs!

If they will allow me in with the camera, I'm going to shoot a video with him at the facility interacting with some of the residents there so watch for that.

Thanks to all of you for the thoughtful comments.

  • thanx for posting this....u made me cry. I have worked w/Alzheimer's patients & the joy in your mom's eyes is just priceless...she looks so happy. :o) These animals are so capable of love...all they need is a chance to show it...and someone who cares.

  • OMG... i cried my eyes out. God bless you and mom. And give LIDO big hugs for being there. YOU ARE A WONDERFUL PERSON AND IN MY PRAYERS!

  • and they say they are "killer dogs" "killer dogs" my backside that was lovely to watch

  • Very nice, very nice.

  • This video is very touching. I am a guy and I have to admit this brought a tear to my eyes.

  • this was so beautiful....my father died of alzheimers....and it was painful.....this made me cry......it was very sweet and sad at the same time

  • Just awesome I have a therapy dog as well.

  • I don't know your mom, but this made me cry. It is actually really beautiful.

  • As an owner of 2 Bully breeds, thanks for a "positive" story on the breed. Sorry it was under such bad circumstances for you though. Thanks again, too bad more people aren't informed.

  • music, children and pets. The most therapeutic for alzheimers patients...there can still be joy in ppls life:) Love the video, thnx:

  • Louise felt a lot of tension late into her Alzheimer's because she was nervous about trying to keep up with conversations with people. She felt more relaxed and happy with our dog.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this. My sister is in the mid stages of alzheimers and is also downs and OCD.

We have several dogs and they are a blessing for both of us.

  • Touching video. What a wonderful moment that was. Thank you for sharing.

  • Thank you for this wonderful video. It touched me deeply. I wish you and your family that you share many more of those precious moments and that this dog brings brightness into your home for a long time.

  • what a touching video. pit bulls seem to love children and the elderly the most!!! i loved the big laugh she gave after he kissed her face!!!!

  • This video was so touching! My grandmother is in the later stages of Alzheimers as well and I came across this video and had to send it out to the entire fam. All of us got a good cry out of it. I truly believe in a dog's ability to comfort. Thanks for providing this clip!

  • Omgg aww..he's soo fatt..Lol i loove itt.

  • Thanks for sharing your video. It was truly touching.

  • dlor99 thank you for the really nice comment. The thing about this is, I didn't post it to get on the news or tv, or become famous. My reasons for posting this all revolve around showing the public how gentle and loving these dogs really can be..and also to show how much of a positive influence animals can be for a person with alzheimers - and other illnesses too. thanks again for the very thoughtful comment. It means mroe to me than you know. :-)

  • WOW...wow. i've seen a lot of different kinds of videos on youttube (sadly), but this is one of the most unique, original, touching, real, artistic, and yet simple videos out there. seriously. don't know what else to say besides that i'm going to save it as one of my favs. i love pitbulls too.

  • Jmartin2683 no worries. Check back to my response about 3 months back concerning his weight. Thanks for the comment! :-)

  • not to be rude, and really no offense intended, but that dog needs to go on a diet if you want him to be around in 10 years.

  • I thought this was a very sweet video. My grandmother also has alzheimers, the thing is she hates dogs *no offense to any dog lovers* it made my heart warm and my eyes water. thanks for this sweet video.

  • HAHA great video...they definetly feed the dog enough

  • That music fits in that vid perfectly..i think same way..dogs r a great help with Alzheimer patients..i have seen personaly that effect on a Alzheimer patient..

  • My mom also has Alzheimer's. What a crummy disease! Interestingly enough, they never forget the Love! Kids also, make them happy! I love your dog! What a big sweet pup! Take care, and just love her!

  • Beautiful.

  • glad your mom is happy

  • this was such a sweet video plus I think pitbulls are the best so this gets 5 stars.

  • the two are so cute !!

  • Thanks for all the nice comments and also concern for the dog. My sister inherited this pit from our uncle who passed away in Jan/2006. The dog weighed in at 112 lbs at the time but I'm happy to report that he has lost 17 lbs since. Deb has him on a Vet supervised diet and exercise regimen. My Mom really does light up when my sister visits with the dog every saturday. Thanks again for all the comments and private messages. Much appreciated! Michele
  • that is a HUGE pit bull!112pounds, ddaaammnnn, that's huge for a Pit Bull

  • So sweet. And so nice you have found something that is nice for both your mother and the dog.

  • man this song makes me want to die. chill with that.

  • A beautiful video! I wish I could give you all a hug.

  • I like the choice of tune - one of my favs. My Nan had Alzheimers for some time and she passed away just over a year ago - it's a sad disease and it's important to cherish the good memories you have, this def. looks like one.

  • My Jack russell terrier used to get up and sleep with my father after I went to work, I never knew he did that until my father told me just before he died when I brought all my dogs in to visit him in the VA hospital and therapy dogs. To know that even in the mists of Alzheimer's disease, the love of a dog can break through and bring a beautific smile to one's face. All creatures great and small, God bless them

  • THank you all for such thoughtful comments. Mom seems to love this dog more than her own dog.

  • Good video. My mother is in the moderate stages. It's so nice to do things to make her happy.

  • thats one overweight dog

  • trm82 - yes the dog was overweight when my sister got him recently. He is on a diet and exercise program under the supervision of Debbie's vet. Thanks for the concern.

  • That was lovley, i love bull breeds they are so gentle and loving when in the right hands, just like yours shows.

  • I have just watched this video 4 times, and there is something about the dog, your mum and the music that brings a tear to my eye-and I'm a hard man.

When the refrain'all we are is dust in the wind'is playing the second time, and the dog leans back his head and licks your mum's face causing her to laugh in delight-I dunno,it's like I can sense something very Sacred. The grace of God,hidden in the beauty and simplicity of the moment.

    Great vid!Thanks for sharing.

  • i posted a comment basically TRYING to say what you said but you said it much better. i too, watched it atleast 4 times. what a piece of art. somehow, i really hope this video gets across to more and more viewers.

  • Wonderful to see what the dog is doing for your Mom, but what about your responsibility to the dog? The dog is at least 60 lbs overweight.

  • I liked your choice of music. He looks like a gentle dog. We are so lucky to have our creatures while they are with us. I enjoyed watching your mom be so happy with Lido.

  • Nice 112# Pit Michele,

I'm glad he gives your mom happiness. Thanks for sharing your video with me.

  • even though i don't know your mother, it was good to see her smile like that. These are the videos you look back on and say "damn, those were good times."

  • that was beautiful... Pit Bulls can be such sweet dogs if they are raised properly. This dog is such a teddy bear.

  • Thank you for the nice comments everyone. This dog is so obedient and gentle, I wouldn't hesitate to take him if my sister couldn't keep him anymore. He's a gentle giant for sure.

  • Thank you, and thank you for being so good to your mum. Not easy being a caregiver, society doesn't recognise how hard it is. Lovely dog!

  • He may be a 110lb pitbull, but I don't think anybody told him.

  • This is very touching...should be shown to those who think pit bulls should no longer be bred.

    Your mother is beautiful!

  • It is so great to see how happy Lido makes her...animals can be so good for the human spirit!

  • Thanks so much for sharing this with us Michele. As difficult as times can be, it's wonderful that you can see your mom at ease and happy. Dogs are wonderful! *hugs to you, your mom and family*

  • 5 stars !! great song ..touched me deep ...its on my favs now thanks
