I love the father/son relationship between Big Boss and Ocelot - all throughout the game, BB pretty much embarrasses Ocelot all the way through, but never kills him...instead he corrects his mistakes and lets him go, and we get to watch Ocelot grow in skill...and, in his own way, he repays him by not killing him in the end as well.

The rivalry was one of the best parts of the game in my opinion.

I guess it's open to interpretation...I just loved how BB pretty much wrecked Ocelot every time they fought and we got to see him get better and better...he also helped BB out in his own ways throughout the game.

They seem to me as friendly rivals or frenemies throughout the game. I can see why it's like siblings since they are always fighting but it's more for playfulness then actual killing...sort of like Solid Snake and Gray Fox I think.

This is such a great scene. I need to replay the MGS games sometime soon.

I actually have one question, though. In this scene, Big Boss completely destroys Ocelot in unarmed combat. However, later in the game, Ocelot holds his own. I've heard a few different reasons... one could be that there simply isn't much space in the place. Another is that Ocelot is the son of the boss, and learns quickly when it comes to fighting.

Just wondering if there is an official reason.

It's funny and technical, but here's how Ocelot messed up his gun:

Ocelot had 9 bullets in his makarov originally. Ocelot pulled the slide and ejected the first bullet. It looked like he was loading the gun, but was actually wasting a round. After he fired his gun 7 times, he thought it was empty. When he reloaded, he assumed there was no round in the chamber, but there was, so he caused the gun to jam

Basically. He shot 7 times, and he still had a round left in the chamber but he didn't know it. In the heat of the moment, he reloaded the gun and tried to put a separate round in without realizing that he hadn't shot them all.

I've completed Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater on the extreme difficulty with no alerts, no kills, no continues and no life medicine used and I just used the leaf camo. I got all the weapons including, The Patriot, The Mosin Nagant and Single Action Army. I got all the camo uniforms including The Pain's, The Fear's, The End's, The Fury's Colonel Volgins camo's & The Boss's sneaking suit. Also I got Stealth camouflage.

Ocelot is the best boss. Ocelot is a triple agent working with the patriots.

Doesn't this kinda show that Big Boss had already an evil mind in the events of MGS3? I mean he takes it all lightly and even with humor that Ocelot doesn't manage to take him out and even leaves him alive after Ocelot has taken plenty of human lives. @gronndar Yup. It might be that The Sorrow showed up to make Snake think about his cruelty. Whatever the case, he didn't. Big Boss always fought for his own survival and did pretty much what he wanted to in addition to accomplishing his goals. Also, not every soldier would go as far as creating his own rebellion force even after being betrayed by everyone. Solid and Big Boss are actually very different when you look at it. Solid is the perfect protector of peace while BB a skilled radical mind.

@SinfulOcelot Now that I think about it. Psycho Mantis was kind of like Big Boss and The Sorrow was like Solid Snake. Psycho Mantis takes drastic measures to the point of ensuring survival like making people kill themselves and using optic camouflage to remain hidden . And The Sorrow has the same kind of conscience as Solid snake does were he doesn't want to kill people and that he knows killing is wrong.

I might've missed some of Psycho Mantis' story, but didn't he simply join a terrorist force to avenge his "home village" being burned down with the people he loved? If so, he was worse than BB. He just wants to kill people cause he had bad luck in life. The fate's similar to bb but imo he and the rest of the bosses in MGS1 are all completely evil.

@SinfulOcelot I don't think BB is evil. In MGS4 Eva said that BB was trying to stop the patriots. He was trying to free humanity from the grip of the patriots. In MGS3 BB understood that this was war. He knew that wheather he liked it or not people will die. I always saw the difference between SS and BB, is that snake knows what is right. He knows what he must do to protect peace, but BB never knew. He looked for the answer but he could never find it. He tried to do good, but instead did bad.
