Returned to Isle of Lewis for no apparent reason but to partake in a ritual drinking and walk around a while and complain how cold it was - and once again this song sprung to mind. Wild!
This and "Heart Of The Country" are the Apex of Synth Rock! Lament is one of a few albums that I bought without knowing what was on it, and was blown away on first listening. DWTIME, followed by Lament followed by this followed by HOTC must be the greatest 20 minutes of synth rock layed in a groove, or should I say burnt onto a CD!
Lament is an excellent album. In many ways way before it's time both in sound and production. If you don't have it, I strongly advice you to buy it. Even if you aren't a U-vox fan.
It's much more even than the earlier productions that, to be honest, varied between pure classics and .. ehr.. not so good tunes. On Lament they found a sound (rhyme!) and kept if all through the album. I can still listen to it from track 1 to the end and that is rare for me. U2:s "Joshua Tree" is another such album.
I was living in England when they were big and I was 18 then, I recall their excellent synth sounds and arrangements, they are one of the best bands ever to come out of the U.K.!!
Hm, what about Lament itself? Brilliant album, but no song on it can hold a candle to the title track:) Sets the mood for the whole album. Bitter-sweet. With a touch of decadent decay. Mourning the past gone by. Ah... The 80s... GOD, I WISH I COULD GO BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
An amazing work of art! It actually took me while to discover that this was not an original Ultravox video. The scenes fit the song perfectly! And you've gotta love this song!!!
I always imagined this song to be about an English officer bewitched by an Irish beauty in the 18th century..........too many historical romance novels in high school I suppose
Humor my tired braincells and tell me what film these clips are taken off of. And hell, could a $2,000 an hr music video director have made a better haunting vid to this formost classic haunting U-Vox song, regardless of the modern arts of pasting and sticking? Good on this up and coming artist.
The video is from the movie "Wuthering Heights" based on the Bronte sisters' novel, obviously starring Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes. It's not been much of a success of any sort, though, when it was first released, and in my opinion, rightfully so. But it's a good backdrop to this Ultravox song, I agree.
whoa! i had lament on vynyl when it first came out.haven`t heard this track for donkeys years; hearing it borught back a few memories & its still a brilliant track!!
I read the book in high school about 30 years ago. This movie is the closest to the book and by far the best version of Wuthering Heights I have ever seen. Great song by Ultravox too, brings back memories. Thanks for posting.
It is a 1992 version of Wuthering Heights, the lass is Juliette Binoche and the gent a certain Mr Feinnes, Ralph or Joseph your guess is as good as mine.
Reading passages of ancient rhyme Cut so deep so old Telling tales of travellers and mystery Hearing spirits never far removed Call out aloud When the time comes they'll talk to me Hand fighting hand As you turn to a man of two worlds Taobh ri taobh tha sinn mar aon de dha shaobhail Do lambh nam lambh gabhal aithne air leim a ghablh Hand fighting hand As you turn to a man of two worlds
Nice job- captures the ambiance of the song very well.

"Does anyo?ne know what the gaellic lyrics mean in English???"
Наверняка это кельтский язык. Ведь в тексте много мистических оборотов.
И связь с древностью на кельстком языке.
