I think when you first get an animal you should bathe him really well, especially if he's an adopted animal. Then they will take care if themselves after that. I take him for a shave and bath at the beginning of summer. He loves the short hair.

well, of course you CAN bathe a cat, the point is that you're NOT SUPPOSED to, of course if this is a special occasion like he's got really dirty or something and bathe him would be less harm than let him clean himself by himself, but you definitely shouldn't bath a cat on a regular basis.

That's why I always start bathing my cat's when they are young. Most kittens don't have a really strong fear of the water. Both my adults stay calm during the bath. They still don't like it, but they don't fight or cry at all. But when bathing young kittens you MUST make sure they stay warm till they are totally dry.
