I beat Dodge 5.7's with full exhaust and CAI. I have a 01 Chevy 5.3 with a CAI and a MFS. I Think Dodges are just to heavy. Chevy needs to start putting back the 350's in there trucks. :) best motor ever made.

I raced my step dad 02 ram with a 4.7 vs a hemi and did ok off the start but he ate my ass up after he caught traction,. in fact a few months after that night i was driving my step dads truck and hydroplaned and hit a gaurd rail at 50 mph. It tore the driver side wheel assembly out of the ball joints and did a little more damage. he wasnt upset, now he has a brand new dodge ram with a hemi.
When it comes to horsepower per dollar, chevy is your best bet. WAY more companies make Chevrolet performance parts for a whole lot less money. I used to have a 02 Dodge with the 5.9 magnum and to cam it was gonna be well over $1000. The cam ALONE (not lifters, springs) was 550. I now have a 01 silverado with the 5.3 and it will cost around $600 to do the whole thing. (I tune myself with HPTuners)
I know the 99 4.8 is 255, then in 2000 it jump to 275, Remember thats the first year of the 4.8-5.3 so they were still working out kinks, Doesnt really matter,
@GMCMan29 yeah you are right. just looked it up. the source i looked at for the 5.3L had same bore and stroke numbers but had different displacements. 99 was 270hp, 2000 was 295hp.
its not a problem, I know the 2000+ 5.3s work really fucking good, my brother has a 2003 Avalanche and it hauls ass, in stock form, my friends 2007 Hemi Ram doesnt feel any faster. I love trucks lol
@GMCMan29 the new 07 body style is so much heavier than the last. i raced 2 08 4x4 5.3s with my 08 V6 f150 2wd and beat both. 1 was ext cab, the other was reg cab longbed. the reg cab was close up until about 80 then i pulled away and had about 3 cars by 100. the ext cab was A LOT slower. also my buddy has an 04 reg cab shortbed 2wd silverado 4.8L auto and i can stay right beside him. not bad for 285hp against about 210hp(4.2L with K&N CAI) i have 3.55LS rear end and 5 spd reg cab shortbed

@durakingdiesel i donno. its weird. my 08 V6 f150 can hang with my friend's 04 4.8L silverado. both are reg cab shortbed. mine is manual with intake, his is auto stock. from a 40roll i beat him 2/3 times but off the line he beats me every time. i have not raced a 5.4L f150 yet but i dont think i would beat it unless its a 4x4 screw. 2V 5.4L i might get most of them, 3v no way unless its a 4x4 screw.
@timmypstyle already beat a 00 2wd 360 ram reg cab longbed, two 08 5.3L 4x4 silverados(one was reg cab longbed, other was ext cab), a 4.6L 4x4 f150(ext cab),my friend's 04 silverado 4.8L 2wd(reg cab shortbed), my dad's 00 4.8L sierra 4x4 ext cab, mid 90's V8 grand cherokee. never raced a ram, one was messing with me and we took off but it was from like 40-50mph then he turned. it was a reg cab shortbed hemi

@jeffreycastgsx HAHA wow. maybe you should learn to not say that stuff to someone who actually has driven both. my dad has a 4.8L sierra ext cab and my truck would beat it. check out the videos. i have my dad's truck on my page too so you can see for yourself. my truck would destroy a 4.8L crew cab if they made one. and 40mph is pretty high for 1st gear. but if its still in range, you can make it shift down.
@timmypstyle you just gotta learn how to drive an auto. i taught my friend with the 04 silverado how to do it too. i learned it from my uncle when i had my 96 trans am. he used to race at the piers in new jersey with his 86 Z28. if its not too high for the gear you can make it downshift while still in drive, it just takes about a half of a second so you really arent gaining much unless its at a slower speed in which that gear change will actually benefit you.
@jeffreycastgsx even a 5.3L ext cab is slower than mine. i said i have beaten an 08 reg cab longbed 4x4 5.3L. the old bodystyle ones would probably beat me since they are lighter than the newer ones but it would pretty much have to be a reg cab with either bed. i dont know the rear end of the 08 i raced tho. i know the ext cab 08 was a 3.73. mine is a 3.55LS and i dont know my frineds 04 but am trying to get the code off of his truck to find out.

@jeffreycastgsx i didnt say a truck would shift into 1st at 40mph. i said if the vehicle at 40mph is still within its 1st gears range, then it will. honestly i have never been in a vehicle that will do it at 40. but that isnt what i was talking about. i was just saying that sometimes you floor it and it doesnt drop to the gear it should, you can MAKE it drop to that gear.
@timmypstyle for example, in my 96 trans am i had, 1st topped at about 40ish. if you were going 35 and floored it, most of the time it would go into 2nd. so you make it go into 1st. but honestly there is no gain from having do it from 5mph below the redline. if it was 25-30 yes. but you gotta add in the shift time from 2nd to 1st, then it shifts back into 2nd after that 5mph. so it actually probably is slower unless its like 25 or 30mph.
@timmypstyle yeah lets just leave at that, your friend did not do that, he obviously just floored and it shifted into 2nd and either way thats the only way your v6 is gonna be anything
@jeffreycastgsx if you want to know how to do it, heres how. try it. when you floor it and if you are in the rpm range for it to drop to 1st but it only goes to 2nd, just let off the gas completely and floor it again, as quick as you can. 99% of the time it will drop into 1st. this works for any gear as long as the speed is still within the rpm range of the lower gear. you can tell if you know your rpms in the gears compared to your speed.
@timmypstyle every auto i have driven and everybody that has done it while ive been riding in it has done it and it works. i maybe had 5 times total that it didnt work. 89 firebird, 96 trans am, 86 chevy C10, 90 5th avenue, 04 silverado, 94 crown vic, 00 sierra, 96 integra, 96 mustang, 91 audi, 96 beretta Z26, all did it. my 5th avenue was the one that had trouble but i think the tranny was not 100% with 120k on it
@jeffreycastgsx actually its been so close that HE actually wanted to go to the drag strip to see whose was actually faster...and thats just the difference between owning an auto and owning a manual. his 1st gear is aggressive then 2nd -4th are more mild for mpgs. my 1st-3rd are pretty aggressive and 4th and 5th are mild.
@jeffreycastgsx just looked at my buddy's 04 silverado's axle code. it said GU6 which is 3.42 and it has an open diff. we are going to the track sometime soon. track is only open on wednesdays and open at 530 for TTs and 830 is elims. my buddy gets off work at 6pm and its an hour drive out there so he has to get off work early one of those days so we can race.

Have you ever seen a dyno sheet for a stock hemi? They only put down like 280+ hp. The factory rated hp on the hemi is at some insanely high rpm. 350hp with exhaust and cai. Yeh okay.

454s aren't that fast. They are powerful but not very fast unless built right. they are heavy as fuck, my buddy has one in his old lifted chevy and I rape him in my slow 4.7 05 ram quad cab
@marc5007 I can honestly say my 4.7 is faster than his 454 with long tube headers. i raced him countless times and i pull on him every time. he's too heavy. all that power does no good if you're truck is solid steel and your motor is as well. it's like putting an ls7 in a dump truck

No idea what my Z71 runs. Might not beat you on the street, even in 4wd it will spin them but I'm confident it will hook up at the track if I launch in four. I can tell you after the winter I'll run it and I expect a 1.5-1.7 60 foot time on a descent launch with a mid to high 12 second quarter.
are you sure, im the opposite, i hook on the road and not on the track, im gettn those times not hookn for the first 100 ft, i can absolutely wax a lightning or mustang on the road but they can keep up with me on the track due to traction issues

I raced my step dad 02 ram with a 4.7 vs a hemi and did ok off the start but he ate my ass up after he caught traction,. in fact a few months after that night i was driving my step dads truck and hydroplaned and hit a gaurd rail at 50 mph. It tore the driver side wheel assembly out of the ball joints and did a little more damage. he wasnt upset, now he has a brand new dodge ram with a hemi.

When it comes to horsepower per dollar, chevy is your best bet. WAY more companies make Chevrolet performance parts for a whole lot less money. I used to have a 02 Dodge with the 5.9 magnum and to cam it was gonna be well over $1000. The cam ALONE (not lifters, springs) was 550. I now have a 01 silverado with the 5.3 and it will cost around $600 to do the whole thing. (I tune myself with HPTuners)

@GMCMan29 the new 07 body style is so much heavier than the last. i raced 2 08 4x4 5.3s with my 08 V6 f150 2wd and beat both. 1 was ext cab, the other was reg cab longbed. the reg cab was close up until about 80 then i pulled away and had about 3 cars by 100. the ext cab was A LOT slower. also my buddy has an 04 reg cab shortbed 2wd silverado 4.8L auto and i can stay right beside him. not bad for 285hp against about 210hp(4.2L with K&N CAI) i have 3.55LS rear end and 5 spd reg cab shortbed

@durakingdiesel i donno. its weird. my 08 V6 f150 can hang with my friend's 04 4.8L silverado. both are reg cab shortbed. mine is manual with intake, his is auto stock. from a 40roll i beat him 2/3 times but off the line he beats me every time. i have not raced a 5.4L f150 yet but i dont think i would beat it unless its a 4x4 screw. 2V 5.4L i might get most of them, 3v no way unless its a 4x4 screw.

@timmypstyle you just gotta learn how to drive an auto. i taught my friend with the 04 silverado how to do it too. i learned it from my uncle when i had my 96 trans am. he used to race at the piers in new jersey with his 86 Z28. if its not too high for the gear you can make it downshift while still in drive, it just takes about a half of a second so you really arent gaining much unless its at a slower speed in which that gear change will actually benefit you.

@jeffreycastgsx even a 5.3L ext cab is slower than mine. i said i have beaten an 08 reg cab longbed 4x4 5.3L. the old bodystyle ones would probably beat me since they are lighter than the newer ones but it would pretty much have to be a reg cab with either bed. i dont know the rear end of the 08 i raced tho. i know the ext cab 08 was a 3.73. mine is a 3.55LS and i dont know my frineds 04 but am trying to get the code off of his truck to find out.

@timmypstyle for example, in my 96 trans am i had, 1st topped at about 40ish. if you were going 35 and floored it, most of the time it would go into 2nd. so you make it go into 1st. but honestly there is no gain from having do it from 5mph below the redline. if it was 25-30 yes. but you gotta add in the shift time from 2nd to 1st, then it shifts back into 2nd after that 5mph. so it actually probably is slower unless its like 25 or 30mph.

@jeffreycastgsx if you want to know how to do it, heres how. try it. when you floor it and if you are in the rpm range for it to drop to 1st but it only goes to 2nd, just let off the gas completely and floor it again, as quick as you can. 99% of the time it will drop into 1st. this works for any gear as long as the speed is still within the rpm range of the lower gear. you can tell if you know your rpms in the gears compared to your speed.

@timmypstyle every auto i have driven and everybody that has done it while ive been riding in it has done it and it works. i maybe had 5 times total that it didnt work. 89 firebird, 96 trans am, 86 chevy C10, 90 5th avenue, 04 silverado, 94 crown vic, 00 sierra, 96 integra, 96 mustang, 91 audi, 96 beretta Z26, all did it. my 5th avenue was the one that had trouble but i think the tranny was not 100% with 120k on it

@jeffreycastgsx actually its been so close that HE actually wanted to go to the drag strip to see whose was actually faster...and thats just the difference between owning an auto and owning a manual. his 1st gear is aggressive then 2nd -4th are more mild for mpgs. my 1st-3rd are pretty aggressive and 4th and 5th are mild.

@jeffreycastgsx just looked at my buddy's 04 silverado's axle code. it said GU6 which is 3.42 and it has an open diff. we are going to the track sometime soon. track is only open on wednesdays and open at 530 for TTs and 830 is elims. my buddy gets off work at 6pm and its an hour drive out there so he has to get off work early one of those days so we can race.

@marc5007 I can honestly say my 4.7 is faster than his 454 with long tube headers. i raced him countless times and i pull on him every time. he's too heavy. all that power does no good if you're truck is solid steel and your motor is as well. it's like putting an ls7 in a dump truck

No idea what my Z71 runs. Might not beat you on the street, even in 4wd it will spin them but I'm confident it will hook up at the track if I launch in four. I can tell you after the winter I'll run it and I expect a 1.5-1.7 60 foot time on a descent launch with a mid to high 12 second quarter.

okay the my truck is the lightest of the big three my truck weights 4600lbs the chevy in the same model with 6.0L v8 (comparitive engine) weights 4,900lbs and the ford weights like 4700lbs with the 5.4L v8...idk y ppl say dodges are heavy theyre lighter...anyways my dads silverado ss can not keep up with my hemi stock for stock off the line and its a lil closer in between 2nd and 3rd shifts but 50 to 80 pull im still a truck length ahead after i hit 80 and 5.3s suck balls for speed & towing lol

i had a 97 silverado and it was a quick truck did really well on gas for being a 350 and i pulled up next to a hemi and it blew me away and thats when i sold my chevy and got a dodge it made me look stupid in front of my girlfriend i wasnt even mad i was impressed theyre both good trucks but mopars got it in power no doubt
