It's not surprising that the man survived. He was standing in just the right place relative to the position of the trailer which was coming at him sideways. If he had been run over by the trailer axles it would have killed him. There is several feel of vertical clearance under a simi trailer. The impact hit him above the waist and knocked him down. Once he was on the ground the was no more contact with the vehicle.
