  • Those were the days when roasts had STYLE, CLASS, and the language was CLEAN. Forget today's roasts on Comedy Central. Give me Dean Martin's any day!

  • The only man who can make people laugh without saying a word...

  • hi im 22 and my generation sucks.

  • Don't need to be gross to be funny!

  • @rjjazzman1 -- AMEN to that!!

  • They don't make 'em like that anymore.

  • Foster is the "Red Button" of comedians. You push that button, you'd better run for shelter.

  • There's only 2 comedians that can get me to laugh uncontrollably like this and the other one is Robin Williams but only when he's doing stand up.

I have to pause this sometimes because I'm laughing so much I have to take a breath.

it's good seeing all these Stars again..

  • classic thank for sharing LMAO

  • This has to be one of the top ten funniset bits in TV history, hysterical, even Rickles was cracking up!

  • Wow! Was this guy always this funny?

  • @hamlanzon6 The answer is yes. Foster Brooks was a great comedian who found his niche by delivering his jokes posing as a drunk. In truth, he was a tea totaler who, I believe, had overcome alcoholism earlier in his life.

  • @otoskram I think he meant Dino spent a little too much time in the tanning salon - and to a drunk guy - he might look Puerto Rican (though you could probably substitute Asian, Native American, Middle Eastern...)

  • @otoskram What don't you get a life? You are the type of people that makes this world what it is today. Everything is Racist. Why don't you grow some skin as in thick, and that way you won't bruise so easy.

  • @otoskram You're an idiot.

  • All Rich Little can do is shook his head in amazement..

  • Genius, simply genius!!!

  • You know your funny when people die laughing and you havent even opened your mouth yet. He was a comedy icon along with Rickles

  • I was watching an old episode of Adam 12 the other day and foster brooks had a bit part on it. As a drunken driver. Played it much more subdued and realistic.

  • I wish i would have grown up watching him, what a talented man. R.I.P Foster Brooks

  • I think I loosed a few ribs and slapped my kneecap out of joint.

  • I wish TV Land,NickAtNite,ME TV and Retro TV would re re run the DEAN MARTIN Veriety and

ROAST Shows. Thank God YouTube shows all of these.

  • He could have played a good Abe Lincoln..

  • He lived to a rip old age too. Must have been in his late 80's when he passed away. Most of the Roast crew lived very long lives. Great assembly of talent we'll never see again.

  • @714AD Laughter is a good medicine.

  • One of Foster's best performances. He just nailed it.

  • These comedians are the best!

  • Foster Brooks was one of the few talented comedians that made you laugh without saying a single word.

  • 4 dane cook fans accidently checked in for looky.

  • Brooks was a teetotaler in real life.

  • Foster was hilarious. He even put out a record in the 70's titled "The Lovable Lush ". I still have it & pull it out once in a while to listen to . Brilliant stuff

  • i just want more

  • Foster Brooks is the best!! I miss these type of comedians, nowadays the Roasts they have SUCK! Lisa Lampanelli and Jeffery Ross aren't even in the same ballpark as these comedians! I miss the good ole days when comedy didn't have to be rotten

  • Mr Foster Brooks was one of the very best

  • Now please Don dont blame your lovely wife for any of this our getting together was all my doing it's all my fault i happened to be the one who answered her ad in the Hollywood Free Press! (LMAO)

  • WHO ARE THE 4 ASSHOLES??????

  • geez, how do you follow an act like that? such talent may never be seen again.

  • Foster Brooks made Dean Martin laugh more than any other comedian on the show! He laughed tears on every show!

  • Cheese it!

  • What a talented and hilarious gentlemen he was! His speech patterns and mannerisms were perfect and his timing was second to none. His talent was even more amazing when you are aware of the fact that he was a teetotaller!

  • We are of the total apinion -opinion too -even,- THAT THIS IS BROOKS Pinacle..........ie Aside from speling ----this is HIS BEST.....He takes a home run -THE HOME RUN and Then He takes it to Don*shome garage withus in tow to the grocery store with his wifes Definitive Permission. Thanks Deano....THANKYOU MR> Don Brooks.

  • And these days, what is passed off as "comedy", isn't even in the same Universe as Foster. All of these comedic "wanna-bees" could take a lesson on timing, delivery, and content from this genius. I wish I could turn back the clock 30 years to this simpler time.

  • please give that a drink.

  • What a genius.

  • foster brooks was card. he could keep that drunken look while everyone around him were crying, and laughing, and coughing themselvs silly!! foster brooks wuh-wuzzzzz the best comeeeedian that ever lived. and i agree with @crankbv1. he could make everybody laugh without speaking. There is 1 thing i love about Brooks. He fumbles on words (Mrs. Niggles, Wiggles, Pi---, Nickels & when you're on Tee, tee teeveeee) like no one else.

  • Brooks was a scream. These roasts may be a little hokey, but they present us with a chance to see the golden era of comics in their golden years. For those of us who grew up with them, I say, THANKS

  • Ever seen Foster Brooks sing Danny Boy? I can't find it on YouTube, but he plays it straight, and it's WONDERFUL!

  • Exactly. Whenever I need a lift, I watch Foster Brooks in action.

  • Dino's on his feet before Foster's even finished! Well anticipated (or well rehearsed) still damn funny though!

  • If your sides don't ache from laughing within the first 30 seconds of Foster Brooks taking the podium, you need some serious surgery on your funny-bone. Not only is this kind of comedy unduplicatable - it's unh-uuuhhhnnn-UHHnhh a-LOUD!

  • This is brilliant stand up. Focus on Dino. He's defenseless, Foster reduces him to a giggling puddle !! Dino's wonderfull sense of humor, and his great affection for Foster, shine through....

  • dont tell anybody will ya ? My wife would be furious if she found out !

incidentally, your out of Scotch. !!

  • I love Foster ! he had this act down pat ! what a classic, thanks for posting !

  • Pure genius. There are comedians, and then there was the incomparable Mr. Brooks. Nicely done, sir.

  • best drunk=EVER!!

  • Did I hear right that they put Foster Brookes in the cockpit of a passenger plane and let him talk to the people over the tannoy as a joke? The passengers went crazy! Or is that a myth.

I have seen a clip on hear where he reduces Dean Martin into a heap!

  • A true master!!!!!

  • I miss these guys. They were so funny, and while they didn't use 'colorful metaphors' it is rich with innuendo.

Foster Brooks still makes me laugh. Have a bad day watch a Foster Brooks sketch.

  • thank god for utube, best tv channel in the world :)

  • How I stumbled on to this I don't know but Foster's routine is one of the funniest I've ever seen. A master at his craft!!!!!

  • The people on the panel are Dan Rowen, Dick Martin (both from Rowen & Martin Laugh-in show), Telly Savalas (actor), Rich Little (comedian-impersonator), Lorne Greene (actor), Cliff Robertson (actor - who died recently) , Jack Klugman (actor), and Joey Bishop. I can't see the rest.

  • If you're making Rickles laugh like that, you're probably pretty funny.

Foster was a master of his craft.

  • Foster Brooks was a genius...His timing and delivery were flawless, and seasoned professional comedians were laughing so hard, they just about fell over! Proof positive that it's all in the delivery, and you don't need foul language to win an audience.

  • @MrRockinallnite The amazing thing to me is that he did the exact same things every time he got on stage but it was ALWAYS hilarious. His little speeches were usually really well written but it's remarkable how fresh he was able to keep it, it was just that good lol.

  • @MrRockinallnite How right you are. I can't and don't watch any of today's foul-mouthed dirt bags who think they can only be funny going filthy. The comedians of yesteryear were truly talented in their craft. Foster was particularly funny and it's just a shame that there is a very limited amount of footage featuring his act. When you watch the clips available on YouTube, you can see how he brings most of the other comedians to tears, they laugh so hard.

  • I cant understand why and how it got 2 negatives. This man was a genious!!!!!

  • funniest stuff ever - period!

  • A truly talented comedian is one who can make you laugh yet keep his act clean.

  • Foster Brooks is/was The Man at this 'scenario comedy' with a 'drunk ' delivery (gives pretext for candor and ignoring of social convention).

Other very fine/capable comedians often receive polite/'professional courtesy' laughter from fellow comics.

Foster Brooks genuinely 'broke them up'.

Check out his roast/'honorings' of Hubert Humphrey and Ralph Nader.

  • I love Jack Klugman's reaction like "is he serious? The scotch is one thing but the velveeta?" All the while Don's laughing his ass off!

  • Dean Martin has all he can do to keep from falling off his chair, he's laughing that hard. I just don't see how Foster Brooks is able to keep a straight face through the entire routine. I've seen it a number of times and LMAO each time!

  • wonderful Foster Brooks

  • one of da best!

  • notice how there is no swearing

  • Sorry .... meant 3:41

  • The timing is impeccable.

  • 5:00 "She tells me that since she's been Mrs. Ricke -- Ricke --Ric -- Rickles..."

  • dean and don are laughing and brooks hasn't even said anything yet!!

  • this is pure class !!! Everytime i see Foster Brooks with Dean Martin poor Deano looks as if he is going to piss himself lol. A time that has saddly gone but thks2 you tube we can still watch it everytime we need a laugh (cuz there is fuk all on tv 2do that) lol

  • Great Stuff!!!!

  • He was so funny even his expression was funny when he looked at Dean Martin. I just wish I could get more clips on him.

  • Foster Brooks was a genius. Dean and Don are practically on the floor before he even starts.

  • For those with NetFlix, watch "Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project". It's a documentary of his life and it's not a boring documentary, it's quite funny. It's available to "watch instantly".

  • @1978PLHS i have it was great

  • Jack Klugman and Rich Little are the only two people still alive out of that whole bunch. Very sad.

  • @southernrockdrummer Don Rickles is very much alive...

  • @keysersoze78 And probably was/is the richest of them with a net worth of $300 million. Very business savvy.

  • @keysersoze78

    As well as Joe Pesci.

  • @n10cities I don't think Joe Pesci is in this video.

  • @ChicagoSouthDan Yep...he is....go to 3:45 in the video. Joe is pretty young in this video, but that is him...

  • @n10cities No, I'm pretty sure that is Dan Rowan of the comedy team of Rowan and Martin, of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In fame. Rowan and Martin also showed up to roast Rickles.

  • @ChicagoSouthDan Rowan and Martin also Roasted Carol O'Connor,on the Dean Martin Roasts

  • @n10cities This roast appeared on TV in 1974. Nobody even knew who Joe Pesci was until Raging Bull in 1980. The person you see at 3:41 is Academy Award winning actor Cliff Robertson.

  • @MADWORLD1427 He wasn't actually drunk, it's all an act. (And, I might add, a quite convincing one.)

  • hahahaha! oh god, how does he do this with a straight face?

  • TRUE LEGEND! Nobody can make Don Rickles bursting into laughter just by looking at him...

  • now thats funny

  • Oh GOD!!! At 2:03 Foster sounds like a DJ scratching a record in a Mix!!! So Awesome!!!

  • Hilarious. That was a classic. lol

  • True comedic talent. I need to get this video collection for these stars were, correction, are amazing. I hope they are always remembered and made the gold standard to be admired and respected for generations to come.

  • TRUE COMEDIC GENIUS!!

  • A legend in comedy!

  • @LosAngeleno1959,

This has been addressed already, but I thought I'd add something.

Brooks was so funny partly because he was so good at acting drunk. Equally amazing is that, after a problem with alcohol earlier in his life, he never touched the stuff again.

You're not the first person to be fooled, but there's always one way to tell: at the end of his act, Brooks always drops out of character to acknowledge the audience. You can see that here as he walks back to seat.

    Stone cold sober.

  • I've never seen Rickles laugh that hard before in my life. Brooks was a genius.

  • This might be the funniest 5+ minutes in TV history. There is no one on the air today to compare.

  • @VoiceoverIsland I totally agree with you. I can't think of anything that has been on TV over the last 50 yrs of so that tops this. Total genius. Totally appropriate for the occasion. A absolute masterpiece of timing and making the audience embarresed.

  • This is hilarious but sad too. So many of those stars are gone now and there really is no one to replace them.

  • "As the Puerto Rican gentleman just told you.." LOL!

  • They just don't make em like they used to

  • i bet the reason they have those fancy decorations on the tables is not to look good but to hide the fact that these people were sitting on toilets prepared to piss their pants from all the laughter

  • I love it when Foster tries to say a word, and can't get it out so he says something much simpler! :)

  • Roasting means something else in the UK

  • Have you noticed that Foster Brooks is the only guest speaker that has the audience falling about with laughter before he has even said a word. That is the esteem in which the man was held. He was unique, a one-off that can never be replaced. Had a bad day ? Click on to Foster and within four minutes you'll feel a hell of a lot better.

  • @crankbv1 So true!

  • @LaffTherapy I did not think of that. Thanks.

  • @ 1:40 best punchline ever!

  • Foster Brooks is so great, hes not even near the podium and everyone is starting to crack up lol

  • I miss seeing his talent on television today. And seeing all the stars that were on that roast and most of them are also gone today. Strange how we took everyone for granted that they'd always be there. Times have changed and this is the kind of comedy I saw as a kid..... but it will never be again. That kind of talent isn't in Hollywood anymore.

  • Always funny. Great entertainment.

  • Omg I live Foster Brooks

  • WE NEED ANOTHER FOSTER BROOKS

  • Brilliant!

  • Hysterical! One of his best. Thanks.

  • Foster Brooks , comic genius. He and Jonathon Winters are my favorites of all time.

  • This is my favorite Foster video. LOVE IT. Miss him and this kind of comedy, the real thing.

  • So what's with Jack Klugman not laughing at anything? Oh well, I guess you can't please everyone.

  • @ChicagoSouthDan You know he looks almost jealous to me. This is so hilarious!

  • @KnoxBlondie Although Jack Klugman portrayed Oscar in the Odd Couple on TV, he was not known as a comedian. Therefore, I don't think he would be jealous if Foster Brooks was funnier than he was. However, jealousy is a possibility.

  • The roast of Sammy Davis is really good too.

  • When he first started that act people thought he was really drunk. I remember reading a story once he was on some show with Steve Allen and Allens wife was mortified and almost stopped the show because she thought he was bombed out of his skull.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain , that clip is on here. Almost as funny as Brooks' act is the reactions of the other guests who don't realize that it is, indeed, just an act.

  • wow how do u follow that. LOL

  • that means that you're on your way home & i better cheese it ! - LOL

  • I love how Jack Klugman looks SO unimpressed! And when Don finally loses it...PRICELESS.

  • i liked it in the day where being politicaly incorrect was great. this show would have been unable to be on today because of the way people are. i loved this show.

  • He just looked at Don Rickles there at the beginning and made him laugh hard!!

  • Must be nearly the funniest routine I've ever seen on You Tube. Amazing.

    Zeldasdiner

  • "You have a very lovely home, incidentally you're out of Scotch" Funny!

  • I remember seeing this live on TV. What made him so good was that you knew, basically, what he was going to do, but he was so good at it that it was still hilarious. What is not shown is when Rickles, as the guest of honor, got up at the end and roasted everyone. He did a barb at Foster, but Rickles also said, seriously, that Foster was a funny and talented man, and he was.

  • One of the all greats.

  • **LosAngeleno1959**

Does it hurt to be as Lame as you are?

  • That was Foster Brooks bit! He was SO funny & sober! He was great when roasting Lucy Ball too!

    This comedy is priceless!

  • he is stone cold sobber it,s an act

  • Well LosAngeleno1959 that just shows what a master he was he had you fooled.

You can cleary see he is not actully drunk just acting when he is done hugs Don and walks back to his seat.

  • This was his act! He was completely sober during this routine.

  • @LosAngeleno1959 No, he was 89 years old when he died and his liver was just fine. You said earlier that your eight years in the Marines meant that you knew drunk, but you clearly blew it with this guy. This is an act. He was stone cold sober in this video. He died from heart trouble, but that is not unusual for someone 89 years old. Do an Internet search on "Foster Brooks" and read his bio on wikipedia or elsewhere.

  • Timeless.
