one idea is to aggregate ratings from the whole party, which could help offset a rage-voter. ratings would also always be displayed as summary totals, and you shouldn't see names attached to ratings so as to prevent reprisal.

take the personal rating system but think abiut it the way lol does it, you can voice a complaint aftewards but most of your rating comes from from how you perform which they made soem sort of calculous to add it up, ppl don't vote on it. I think it woud be very good if blizz found a way to have an automatic rating system. naturally it would be very difficult and would have many many flaws initially, but overtime i think they could get it to work...

I'd like to comment on the last question, as an ex-officer and ex-raidleader... another important thing when you want to switch is to be flexible, if you give the guild some time to find a replacement tank then they're more willing to allow you to switch, you should also be willing to help out tanking for a while after the switch too if its needed, just to help smooth the transition.

the ratings need to come from a system of built in solo challenges with (and against) npc's to get the necessary achievements

As far as rating goes, I think a random chance of one person, instead of every time, and only if performance is below a blizzard defined threshold based on gear. DPS is obvious, tanking could be done by damage taken(mitigation ability) and damage not taken by others(cuz loss of threat). Healing for average health total/health per mana. Death/apm as well, for all

For the tank switching to dps, i suggest if you cannot find a good time to switch specs go out and look for a tank to app to your guild and talk to your recruitment officer.

A solution for the rating system might be to only have the option to vote negatively, and let that slowly fade over time. So say someone is an asshole in your group, you can vote against them and give them maybe like a "strike" which shows other people they suck. Then over time if they don't get anymore "strikes" it will slowly fade away. As far as the potential for griefing, it's possible someone could vote against you, but it would fade over time quickly if no one else votes against you.

Just set up a 3 mode raiding system: Novice, reg, Heroic. That would be great for a lot of the less skilled players, I know I have a few of those in my guild and I feel kind of bad that they have to sit out on the content just because they aren't as skilled at the game. Just make a Novice mode drop with a label on the gear like Heroic has so you can identify them AS more rookie players or some sort of scaling system like Lore was talking about. Could REALLY work out well for all to enjoy.

Ulduar's heroicmodes were also cooler because you knew why they were hardmodes. Like on F.L you knew you hadn't destroyed the towers that made him stronger and therfore he was stronger. Nowdays it's more like; "hey guys, i pushed a swich and they became stronger! I don't know why they did it but now they're just stronger..."

I've seen multiple wipes prevented because someone could tell us over Vent that they DCd or lagged, well before we could tell in game. In game voice chat, that wouldn't happen. We'd just wipe. Even when it can't prevent the wipe, it can get us focused on wipe recovery faster, and it still saves time.

Blizzard would have to replicate this before I'd get behind their voice chat.

Have the rating system work like xbox live. If you someone doesn't "rate" you it counts as a good rating and doesn't hurt your rating at all. It states it as" x% pefers this player or omitted a rating" or something along those lines...

Ulduar was/is popular because it is huge and full of interesting mechanics including the hard modes.

My friend was in a guild with a mage, who wanted to raid on his DK, they didnt want to gear up a new guy so they told him to stay on his mage for the rest of the expansion (Wrath), they were in ICC so not too long. The mage then DE'd all of his gear and got on his DK, when his DK was geared he got into a new guild, got Shadowmourne and got to the best guild on the Realm. At this point he was hated by basically the entire raiding community on the server. That made him quit :P

The only thing making me think there won't be a third mode is Blizzard said a bit ago when people were on about 1 man raids they said they're not going to tune 3 different sets for one tier anytime soon or something. But who knows they change their mind a lot.

WoW Insider write Mathew McCurley was right about the Chilton interview. It was filled with ambiguous answers. He kept saying things like "if you look at traditionally how we've handled [Pandaren]" and "most of the time when we do anything panda-related it's going to be a comic book or a figurine or something like that." If you had to rate everyone in your group E.G you and the 3 other people have to vote on that Rogue and all of you vote 1/5 for instance then it averages your votes and uses that to determine his over all score for that dungeon. Ofc this wouldn't completely solve the problem but I'm sure it would help. You could also limit the rating 5 to say only to people that do 20k + DPS on bosses etc etc it could work for healing and tanking to I'm sure. and finally people that consistently vote 0 should be

@mp4kr I agree they were better in 2 ways. First, you HAD to do something different in most fights to actually activate them it wasn't just a "lightswitch". Second, and this ties into the first, they acted as a gear check if you could activate the hard modes then you had the gear for it. Save for Freya and Leviathan cause they just required you to not kill something.

In regards to Eries' question, I was in the exact some position, I said "I'm really not enjoying tanking anymore and I really want to switch roles." at first I was denied but then one day I said, just let me get on my feral druid (who at the time was not even full ZA/ZG gear) and dps. Since the raid leader had a tank OS he said alright (but docked me 200 ep, our guild uses epgp) and I completely blew every other dps out of the water, I think I beat the top dps at the time by about 5k dps

I went to my guild and told them like 3-4 times (about 2-3 weeks apart) that I wasn't enjoying my toon and would like to switch to another toon that brought the exact same buffs (and another). Finally, I said that I wasn't enjoying my toon at all and would like to switch immediately (other toon was only like 5 ilvls off main) and they just cut me. Had been the top DPS and strategist for the whole time I was in the guild. Beware if you give people ultimatums.
