I discovered this CD, Crossing Borders by Kukuruza , about 10 years ago. This song is from that CD and in my opinion is by far their best work. Don't miss it.
The pace is better in the clip by Веселый Дилижанс (ВЕСЕЛЫЙ ДИЛИЖАНС - Порушка-параня)- but there's no violin. The best rendition, with a great banjoist & superior violinist, is Porushka-Paranya by Bering Strait, sadly disbanded cuz the violinist got homesick & went back to Russia. Their English is impeccable & they have a great CD (Amazon) and DVD Ballad of Bering Strait (Amazon).
This was in 1993, they year before the fall of country and western music. This sounds more country than the crap you see on tv and hear on the manistream radio.
I first saw and heard this group on a DVD named "Gather at the River." It's a bluegrass celebration. This song, performed by this group, is my favorite part of the video. The lead singer's voice captivates me. It's so strong, yet she has gorgeous control over her use of it. She makes it seem so effortless. An entire concert by this group HAS TO leave one thrilled and breathless!
Shame that no one put a comment. It is gorgeous folk song from 17 century, and Kukuruza's performace is fantastic! Go on, and show to Americans who is the best!
I have that song by Bering Strait... They are both very good; but I prefer the Bering Stait version

Despite of all my respect and love to the country music, I believe this song sounds better in traditional sounding.
