Guys, this post is NOT true. Backwards compatibility is a hardware based ability. If you don't own a CECHA01, CECHB01 or CECHE01 FAT model, this will not work. Honestly, the only one that's 100% b/c is the A01 model. The other 2 will play most PS2 games because of software emulation in the chip. Don't be misled into thinking that a PSN download will change this.

Hi, i have the CECHE01 PS3 which came with the Motorstorm & MGS4 bundles and with every software update the % of error goes down & the number of games i can play goes up. It used to be 75% now its 90% of PS2 & almost all of PSone games.

I bought two MGS4 bundles and i keep one wrapped just in case :) , also heard its worth $700 now!

how do you know a PS2 game has to be downloaded to the harddrive of a ps2 in order to be played? Does it say it somewhere on the boxes? I can understand how that makes perfect sense, because thats how all PS3 release games were. Like MGS4 and DMC4 and there were some others I had that had to download first. But the PS2? How do you know which games are like that?

This is just for my own opinion, but I'm only just saying this. Maybe what they should do soon sometime is to produce PS3 models where they will finally have the PS2 backwards compatibility feature again. If they ever do that sometime soon, then that would be so awesome. Eventually, the production for the PS2 will be cancelled and anyone who still owns PS2 games would have to have at least something to play them on. I hope the PS2 backwards compatibility feature will return soon sometime.

This only works on 80GB PS3 models that start with CECH

The E in CECH stands for early. If this add-on doesn't work for you PS3 it means that your model number starts with CKCH or CLCH. So that probably means you bought your 80GB PS3 a couple of months after release, and Sony scrapped backwards compatibility on newer 80GB PS3's.
