  • My daughter's dad wasn't thinking of anyone else but her in his last minutes.

He kept saying she'd be upset if he left and asking the person to whom he was talking to tell her he (her dad) didn't mean to leave her.

He didn't care about anything else but that she wouldn't hate him for leaving.

She was going through a difficult time from something else the day he was killed and somehow, tho I have no idea how, he knew what was happening was going to devastate her.

  • Wow Even Though Felix is Blind he did the right thing and saved lifes. He should get the biggeest award in the entire United States

  • bless him

  • how could he diall 911 if hes blind

  • can anybody tell me what a splice is

  • amazing

  • lol, my name is Felix, too :)

  • Whatever happened to the great Felix?

  • what a brave man must of been hard not to see but his dog helped him through it and got all those ppl out of the apartment....now that's true heroism

  • ... people make mistakes . but he didnt care about anything els other than to know if his friends are okay and that touched my heart

  • wow ... im soo speechless!

  • This was really the bravest thing Felix ever did. You go Felix.

  • inspiring!

  • felix is so brave!

i don't know if i'd be able to do what he did in his place

  • that is just amazing

  • This is good to see if you live in an apartment building. If a fire breaks out in your unit, the thing to do once you get out is to get all of your neighbors out of their units ASAP!! Bang on their doors and yell fire as loud as possible!!!

  • Felix just retired his third guide dog (Ned) a few days ago. So right at this moment he doesn't have a guide. He will be getting a new young guide next month. The guide in this video was his second guide (Lionel), playing the part of the first guide (Valdez, the old hero dog!) who had sadly passed away by the time the video was shot in the fall of 1989.

  • i believe 0:16 is spliced in #304H "spiderman save.

  • i so sorry that man was blind it was hard..

  • Valdez is such a cutie lol he did such a great job He will be missed

  • man run 0:26.

  • @jerhouck Yeah, that was perfectly timed, wasn't it? No apparent editing-- just turned the camera to the next fireman running, then the next, then the next.

  • Fred lives in an assisted living complex in San Rafael. He is still a man. I read that "sex change" comment to Felix, he said WHAT?! NO! Ha ha! Felix says the person that played the part of Fred in the re-enactment was not the real Fred. The real Fred did not want to participate in the re-enactment, so they had a stand-in play his part. Maybe that person had a sex change! Felix doesn't recall his name now. He thinks that person also lived somewhere in the neighborhood though.

  • does he still have a dog today, which of course wouldn't be the one on show?

  • @davinp Hi, I'm Janet, Felix's girlfriend. Felix just got his 4th guide dog this past January. Another male yellow lab named August. He has had guide dogs continuously since Valdez, his first guide. Felix talks about Valdez even today. He was very special! Felix says Valdez had a great memory, and he was very observant, and he was brave. (:

  • God bless him, such a positive person despite his physical impairment, =)

  • @BorisJankovic it's actually a visual impairment a physical impairment is what i have, it's called spina bifida.

  • hess amazing (=

  • my dad owned this apt. back in '87. I've met felix when I was 2 yo apparently multiple times.

    true story

And fred the neighbor isn't aa.. actually fred was a white guy that had a sex change.. now his name is francis

  • 0:27 is that a tow-truck rescue truck?

  • no it's a fire truck

  • I'm jealous! I want a copy of this! Smile! I'm glad you have it and posted it. Felix is my boyfriend. It is trippy to see this, he's so young there! And to be able to see him play beep baseball, he talks about it! That's his old apartment, before he moved here. And Lionel! Valdez had died by the time it was filmed, so Lionel played "Valdez." I enjoyed reading the comments, too. Felix has a Mac. Felix's blindness was from ROP after being born prematurely. He's a musician, plays guitar & bass.

  • thats awesome that felix is your boyfriend, he is a hero, he saved all them ppl in that apartment, He gets around well for being blind...but hes just like us all. I wish you and him the best of luck and great happiness. i hope he is doing well and tell him to keep rocking out to his music.

  • Thanks. I read the comments to Felix. *smile* I'm working on putting up some more videos of Felix playing live in a band if anyone wants to see them.

  • Tell Felix he did a GREAT job in this...he surely is a hero! I am glad he's doing well today.

  • @Bluesjanet He's a hero and I'm glad that he has you

  • What's Felix's seeing-eye dog called? Valdez?

  • Yes. In the actual event. But the episode was re-enacted and filmed a year later. Valdez had passed away. Felix had a new guide dog, Lionel, that played the part of Valdez. Also, Felix didn't leave his lights on. That was just for the filming, the t.v. show. He has a very small amount of light perception. He can tell if its day or night. Sometimes he can tell if a light is on in a room. And sometimes he can't, I don't know why that changes.

  • You know Felix?! How is he today? Still blind but OK, I suppose.

  • yes

  • Juan Valdez.

  • Wow bless his heart! :)

  • Here here. I'm also blind and, like Felix from this segment I have been since birth. It's got its inconveniences but there's no point getting depressed about it. What does it matter if you can save a life?

  • Golly, that must be hard for you. I'm autistic and I haven't helped anyone yet. Maybe one day, I will.

  • what a great guy and a great neighbor too

  • God bless this person for his heroic act and good deed

  • i wish i could help him

  • With what?

  • blind men and women my not be able to see

but are gifted to do things that other people can't

    God Bless Him

  • Well-said!

  • thank you :)

  • When you loose one of youre senses, the rest become stronger.

  • 2 important things learned from this fire. 1st DO NOT use space heaters near things and 2nd make sure you have tennant insurance which is about $150 a year to cover your personal property. Your landlords insurance does not. Felix is a REAL HERO and really cares about his neighbors and Iam very proud of how he made sure EVERYONE got out. Way to go Felix!

  • At 5:28-5:35, I couldn't hear Shatner explain the cause of the fire well, but did he say it was caused by a splie someone made on the space heater's electrical cord?? If it's wrong, someone correct me, please thank you...

  • It was caused by a splice someone else had made on the heater's electrical cord.

  • So basically, when a splice occurs in a electrical cord, is it similar to a short, or just faulty wiring??

  • Oh dear. Have you ever been through a fire?

  • @allgood2000 Why would someone put a splice in a heater now?

  • @allgood2000 What's a splice I've never heard of it before?

  • things like this kinda make u look at your own problems and put them in perspective

    n1 feelix

  • that is a God Blessed man

  • Way to go Felix!

  • i was the one who requested this :)

  • kool i read about beep baseball in a news paper at school

  • It's pretty sad that he lost all of his things in that fire but the most important thing is that no one else got hurt because of Felix's quick thinking, despite being blind.

  • Wow everybody should have his attitude, it amazes me that we are the only species to really care for people who we don't even know.

  • Dude, that's not funny. He was shaken up by the whole ordeal.

  • YOu bet he was shooken up, I have this episode on tape, and when they administerd him oxygen, he looked very very upset. Accoirdiong to the fire chief, he was also wondering if his neighbors were OK.

  • Do you have the original episode? Or the syndicated version of the segment?

  • I have the original episode, was aired January of 1990.

  • Do you know who it was?

  • No, I don't remember now.

  • I'm blind myself and that's probably why this story is one of my favorites. Whoever posted this one, thanks, but I'd like to know what made you decide to post that particular one?

  • Someone requested it.

  • how do u know what to type if u cant see? do u no where the keys are or oes someone do it for u if u can your good at not lokking at keyborad typing

  • i am near blind and can only see maybe a few inches in front of my face how do you learn to type when you can't see and how do you read the messages its called a dictation program and also home row the letters j and f on the key board have bumps on them so i knwo where to put my fingers

  • so thats how you do it its sad being blind in fact having only one sense falyulty is bad actully

  • Don't automatically assume that someone is all down and depressed just because they're blind. I'll admit I don't like it very much at times, but I don't sit around the house all day feeling sorry for myself. Actually, I just started college! BTW, I use a type of screen-reading software called Jaws (Job Access With Speech.) I can still type and read messages on the computer. Whatever text appears on the screen, Jaws should be able to read it.

  • Gotta love the Jaws

  • Are you a JAWS User?

  • I'm personally not, but I have an Uncle that uses the technology, he had an accident with an icy swimming pool a while back.

  • How can that cause you to go blind? Unless you slip and hit your head or something.

  • In part one of this segment doesn't look like his shirt is on fire @ 3:01

  • Why are folks allowed to build and live in wood built properties. Have the yanks got a log cabin mentality. No intelligent people would dream of building residential property in wood, it burns too well.

Build in brick or concrete and you will save lives and save millions of $ in rebuilding and re-equiping costs.

You guys in the states must be severely mentally disturbed not to have realised such facts.

  • that doesnt seem to make sense vision is all blank, black, u cant see "anything"....so i dont understand O_o

  • i think it depends on the particular person, some see a little but are considered legally blind, some see light and dark, but I think there are some people who just can't perceive anything visually. Maybe it depends on what's causing the blindness.

  • I have light perception.

  • People who live in apartments should get renters insurance.

  • just wondering...is there really a point on turning on lights in his apartment if he is blind? xD

  • Thank God he got out quickly and warned his neighbors or else there probably wouldn't be a happy ending.

  • Right on man. God bless ya.

  • a fire is a danger

  • well if he had probaly waited about minuite longer they may have been dead

  • wow

  • he really is the man !!!

  • I am proud of that man. Awesome quick response. I have never seen this in a person who's places was on fire. WOW.

  • it was segments like these that made this show worth watching.

  • that blind man is a hero to all of his appartment neighbors
