They seemed to stop playing it live for their last couple of tours. Saw them when Single Girl came out, and then a while later for the tour to support Lovelife, and they didn't play it either them. Most upsetting - my favourite Lush song.
One of the things I like most about Lush (and a few of the other original shoegaze bands) is that they could be so aggressive in their dreaminess. Modern shoegazers seem mostly content to turn on the flanger, the chorus, the echo, and just drift along on a few chords, going in circles. Dull.
@Pasta0fMuppets ...Reverb, midiverb II with reverse reverb...and lots of feedback....and usage of whammy bar on fender jaguar/jazzmaster to create a kinda ghostly melting effect
I never saw Lush live, but this video shot this way put me right upfront in the mix. High energy tune, Miki is into it. Impressive and wonderful video, thanks for posting!
The live version of this song is so much more powerful than the studio recoding. I remember seeing them in late 1991 when it entered their live set and it blew me away.
Surprisingly high quality, many of the early videos of the 1990s shoegaze bands tend to sound absolutely horrible.
Love this song, "Spooky" is probably my favourite Lush album.

Tons of flangE!

Was there a ton of flange on the guitars or was it just the warble of old video?
Either way its a great vid and thanks for posting it!

Shitloads of flange. That's the shoegaze way. Chorus and flange to your heart's content!
djeboe 2 years ago 6
@porkskins Lush are heavy users of chorus and flange.
@djeboe My Bloody Valentine are the definitive shoegaze band, but they never used any modulation effects, especially not chorus or flange.
