to settle the matter it was written by John Fogarty and released by Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1970. This is one of two songs in which Fogarty uses rain as an allegory for the tears created by the Viet Nam War. Who'll Stop the Rain is the other one.

What is missing from this version is pain the lyrics are supposed to evoke. It's not a sweet love song and needs an underlying anger in the delivery.
