Very cool vid. The roof doesn't crush much, but the ground slamming into your head like that, compressing your neck could cause some serious head/neck injuries. OUCH!
The Side Impact Curtains are deactivated to provide a clear view of the roof collapse -Side curtains deploying would likely move your head away from the roof and cushion your impact as hopefully your head will mostly impact the curtain when pushed side ways and up.
Serious injury? More likely instant death because your brainstem is almost guaranteed to snap since the momentum of the car slamming into the ground with your neck being used as a roof support is pretty much guaranteed death.
This is in slow motion here. In reality a baseball bat to the neck is probably more gentle.
Well, either this dummy is really tall or they had the seat height raised all the way up. I'm 5'9" and drive with the seat all the way lowered. My head is nowhere near that close to the ceiling. Still safer than most older cars in a rollover. Safer than an SUV because your chances of rolling over are so much less likely.
I winced watching that....

No wonder it got a 'marginal " rollover rating ...

Oh ok that's a relief to know! I have an '06 Kia Optima, same car. I feel very safe in it and more so knowing this.

For the record a good SWR is over 4.0-the IIHS won't give any vehicle with a lower score their pick recommendation.
