  • Just curious- are the bloodlines being corrected to reduce hip dysplasias? I understand that even some of the European/ German bloodlines have been bred more for appearance than good working characteristics.

  • Fluffyyyy

  • He is just lovely. I love this breed so much. Nice to see he looks nice and strong, with a straight back.

Even on my travels in America I noticed that some breeders like to breed the GS' with a really sloped back which I can't imagine is good for them and probably promotes hip dysplasia. He looks bigger than my boy who at the time of writing is 8 months old.

  • I got a female German shepherd ...Now this dog is really part Akbash somewhere back there probably. Overall , the German shepherd is really a Collie crossed with a Doberman. Add in a little this and that .

  • beautiful dog!

  • @PivotB3stZ i dont care as i said i hate children but if i had a kid somehow i wouldnt have an animal that has the body to hurt even an adult right next to the kid

  • He looks old and sick with bad hips

  • Having a baby with such a big unpredictible animal is very very unwise but then again i hate children su go on right ahead

  • @Pulitara No offense but you have no idea what you're talking about here. I grew up with my German Shepherd who passed away about 2 years ago, and she would actually take naps with me as a baby. My brother's German Shepherd plays with their newly born baby quite a bit as well. German shepherds are great with kids.

  • Im gonna get two german Shepherds eventually when i move out my parents house but i turn 15 tomorrow lol

  • Wanted dead or alive by Bon jovi great song haha.. And beautiful dog

  • mines huge too! he has the Longest nose ever! and he trips over everything lol!

  • let me guess you run a puppy mill? with no care for the actual dogs or savings dogs just breed for profit how sad=[

  • @dcin1 - Lol, why would you say that when hes so obviously fit and groomed? And the owner obviously knows a ton about the breed. Puppy mill owners don't treat their dogs well. Much less give the dogs special attention and let them play with their children.

  • @GermanShepherdBuff lol okay look how many vids they got of GSD's its profit they parade around "full breed" dods and try and sell them for 500 plus just to profit if you love a dog why have over 100 puppies?

  • There is no such thing as a" long haired" GSD. Thats a big fault in the breed. Though he does not seem to be long haired, just a little plush. He is beautiful though. Nice dog

  • @Whodoesntloveloly - That is your opinion :) But it cant be a "fault" or flaw in the breed if world-renouned breeder seek out the long - coat characteristic. I agree with you, though, he is a gorgeous canine!

  • @GermanShepherdBuff It depends why they're seeking out these dogs. It may be to breed dogs which are purely pets, for their looks alone. It is believed the judging criteria are going to change to allow the long-coat to be awarded titles, but until it does these dogs are worthless for show. Show titles increase stud value. The long coat is listed as a defect in the breed standard, last time I looked.

  • @GermanShepherdBuff The long coat IS a breed defect and always has been. People seek breed peculiarities for a number of reasons. In the case of long coats, they are generally sought for reasons of looks over temperament. I was bitten badly by one in the centre of town 3 weeks ago. A long coat German import, it turned out that this animal has a temperament worse than Hitler's. Just think of munchkin cats if you need any further proof of what 'breeders' seek.

  • @PhleshWound I should have just said "Read the breed standard". <:o)

  • @Whodoesntloveloly I agree with you. Long coats are a breed defect. Judges won't award them championships or challenges, therefore they are virtually worthless to GSD breeders, except to be sold at a discounted price as pets. I have a longcoat GSD and, as beautiful as he is, I'd be the first to acknowledge that, as far as the breed standard is concerned, he's faulty :-)

  • longhaired gs dogs r gorgeous but i think i might like the short haired ones a tad bit more :)

  • Just a friendly tip, if you cut the fur away at the tip of the tail, your dog wll be able to walk with the tail hanging straight. the reason why he pulls the tail up like he does is cause it will otherwise drag in the ground. Dogs don't like that.

  • what a gorgeous Longcoat, i have a short hair and there is a BIG differnce..going to your website now..i am in Germany and so is my dog he is american bred but her with me...

  • damn those are some nice looking dogs.. i also got a long haired gsd looks just like those im guessing your backyard is all full of fur balls lol

  • that baby totally takes it in the face

  • that is probably the biggest GS i've ever seen in my life. he seems to be very good around kids

  • nice dogs

  • I mean no offense in saying this, but Ash is AT MOST a plush. He is definitely NOT a longcoat. Not by a mile. Longcoat males have fur that drops down as much as a foot from their tails. The fur behind the forelegs and haunches stretches a good 6-8 inches, and the coat itself is 4-6 inches long, and extends below the belly by a good 4 inches. Ash is a nice dog, but NOWAYNOHOW is he a longcoat. Sorry.

  • @young95 You're incorrect. In the description you would see that he's out of coat, meaning his undercoat has been shed out. With that said, some long coats are longer than others, however he is a coated dog and when bred to another long coat produces only long coats, if he was a "plush", he would produce both and/or only "plush".

  • @LongcoatGSD...I've been around longcoat GSD's since long before SV lifted the restriction against them, and I own one that just completed his SchH3 trials. It strikes me that you are using your own definition of "longcoat". I sincerely applaud and appreciate your efforts to restore the breed to the way they were before they were almost destroyed by the AKC, but I think you should adjust your definition to what a longcoat actually is, rather than what you would like it to be.

  • @young95 A dog that is a long coat will have tufts of fur on the ears, a "mane", longer fur on the body and tail, "pants", as well as tufts of fur in between the feet. The actual length of a long coated dog will vary, but just because you don't believe an extremely long coated dog to be a true coat, two long coated dogs of all variations will always produce as such and with variations as to length, but will never appear to be a "plush" or "short", which do not have tufts nor fringe.

  • @LongcoatGSD.....Sir, over the years I have seen all manner of variations in what some people call "longcoats".....very few of which possess ALL of the characteristics of a longcoat GSD. Simply having ear tufts and paw fur does NOT qualify a dog as a longcoat! With SV now recognizing the longcoat, my guess is that what we are discussing here will be sorted out, with longcoats with ALL the characteristics becoming the unofficial standard.

  • @young95 LOL well I'm not a "sir" , I have birthed four children. In any event, here is a picture of Ash in coat (remove spaces) - pioneergermanshepherds . com/ashmarch2009.jpg

compare him to my friend's dog, who is a plush (remove spaces) - daiquirisdogs . com/Curtis.html

If you feel these dogs are the same, texture-wise, I do not there is anything more that can be said.

  • @LongcoatGSD Sorry about the gender mis-identification. TECHNICALLY, you are correct. The AAH (Arbeitsgemeinschaft zur Zucht Altdeutscher Hütehunde) is the body that was founded to preserve the dogs that were excluded when Max von Stephanitz developed the GSD breed standard. Since those dogs are all over the place with coat length, even the types of coat, I guess I have to acknowledge that you are TECHNICALLY correct in claiming your dogs as longcoats.

  • @young95 just face it, its a long coat, not TECHNICALLY, it is. just looking at it you can tell

  • @Ethooo1993, calling this dog a "longcoat", as compared to generally accepted appearance characteristics for Longcoat GSD's is, at best, only TECHNICALLY correct. Just as saying that a piper cub and an F-22 Raptor are both technically airplanes, and a Chevy Nova and a Lamborghini Countach are both technically cars. Yes, they share a few characteristics, but I think if you could see a full-fledged Longcoat GSD, the differences would become very obvious to even a casual observer.

  • @Ethooo1993, let me add this. As for my qualifications to speak, I presently own a true Longcoat GSD which recently achieved both his ScH3 and his AD (endurance) certs. And I have seen quite a few of these dogs over the years. But the best authority on the subject is Horst Hegewald-Kawich, who wrote book in the 90's which debunked the myth that Longcoat GSD's did not have undercoats. Much of the credit for SV removing longcoat as a fault goes to him.

  • @LongcoatGSD - I must agree with you. I trust the owner, not some random people who know about the breed. If anyone knows what coat the dog has, it will be the owner.

  • @LongcoatGSD Lol, all I know is that my dog has longer hair than both of these dogs, and her REGISTERED form says that she is a "plush". Whether she is a plush or longcoat is irrelevant to me, she's a full bread German Shepherd is good enough for me.

  • @LongcoatGSD Excuse me, but if he's a long-coat, he has no undercoat. That's why long-coats have never had show value to GSD breeders: the breed standard clearly describes a double coat. The long-coat's covering is a single coat. Exact length and placement of hair has nothing to do with anything - it's whether or not there's a double coat.

  • my german shepherd looks almost the same but not a pioneer

  • my dog is about 9mths now and he's about the same size..

Better get another job to buy his food!!

    Beautiful dog btw :)

  • Gotta Love our big guys, mine does not come from Pioneer, but my boy looks just like hers.

  • looks like a 3rd rate puppy mill

  • That back is fucked up. It needs to be straight not curved.

  • its common for German shepherds to get hip dysplasia

  • nice shepherds they are thick ive got a german shepherd he is very lean with alot of drive i will do better videos soon

  • Beautiful dog

  • long coated sheps rock

  • Very beautiful Shepard you have there! He is gorgous, and so big! I'm gonna be getting me a GSD as a playmate for my husky next year I hope.

  • Good looking son ya got there ! doughboy

  • "ranaalialbadray", you realise there is medication for epilepsy, my old husky had it.

  • u shud train ur GSD more ...

  • I have one he is very strong and very beautiful >at last befor 7 years he had epilepsy!!he's broken my heart! so I KILL HIM. i am still sad

  • If German Shepherds grow up with children it isn't dangerous for them to be around babies and kids, my German Shepard did and he's great with them

  • Yeah- I grew up with a 100lb male GSD. He actually used to herd me and my brother around, keep us out of the street, and let us climb all over him.

He was aggressive towards other dogs, and has chased strangers out of our house before, but as long as you raise them with kids and treat them right, shepherds can be well behaved with children. While some dogs may be untrustworthy due to specific temperament or raising, often having a good GSD in the house can be better than a human helper.

  • can you give me a list of dogs that are untrustworthy plz ?...is the rottweiler one ?

  • @Eliowyn safety comes first so STFU !

  • Yes deffiinately the kid should be atleast 5 before you do anything liek this.

  • GO HUG A TREE ......

  • gavt303 - issues much?

  • Haha mine hops like a kangaroo when she gets excited about something...like a walk

  • awesome dog

  • That's one good looking dog!

  • What a fantastic dog! I have a long-haired female GSD named Zoe who is 3. She and my 7-month-old daughter get along really well. My daughter can't crawl around like that quite yet though.

  • German Shepherds are such beautiful dogs! I love them.

  • At the end Ash is thinking "Just Pet me and quit messing arourd" ...very cool to see. We have a big Long Haired solid black female and she a giant baby also

  • heh heh i got one ...i love the dog near the babay photo

  • Love your dog, Ash. Shepherds are awesome!

  • What a great looking German shepherd!!

  • That is what a true Shepherd should look like. Unfortunately most breeders create these cripples with the Shepherd front and the dachshund back... Sad really...

As anyone can see a real Shepherd like this one is an awesome dog.

Thank you for sharing this video.

  • how tall is the guy in the vid? cuz that dog looks HUGE next to him.

  • it says in the description box that Jason (the guy) is 6 ft tall so yes Ash is huge.

  • hey how come this one its black and brown/ash?.. I had one black and almot bright mustard with a long hairy tail like this one and thick hair around its neck like this one too, but as I siad its was black and much brighter mustar color..

  • the colors vary so I don't know you probably just had a different color variation in the breed

  • beautiful dog

  • Real nice looking dog!

  • I've watched just about all of your videos and I like your dogs~

I had a Shep female growing up, she was THE best dog anyone could ever have.

I got her when I was 9... she died just before my 22nd B-Day.

I'd looove to get another one sumday.

I'll keep your dogs in mind whenever I'm ready for another Shep.

    Beautiful Male, by the way~

    His coat really looks good.

I can tell you take good care of him~

    :)

  • Beautiful dog!

We had one called Sabre who unfortunately died last year, his back legs unfortunately went. They are the best dogs however imo.

  • My aunt's got a black GS about the same weight and probably size. Huuge dog, and very gentle like Ash seems to be.

    Beautiful dog :)

  • That is a disgustingly huge GSD...have fun with joint problems, your a very irresponsible breeder...

  • oh he is sooo sweet with that baby :) very well trained

  • thats a nice gog

  • Gorgeous dog! :@)

  • Ash is gorgeous! I love how his mane looks. Its so full. my GSD's Rex and Cocoa are both about 27" at the shoulder and around 95 lbs.

  • fuck that thing is HUGE!!!! that baby was just as big as the dog's head.

  • My sister got a GS 6 months back, now he's already as tall as a full grown dog. We wonder how much bigger he'll get. His name is Norman. :-)

  • i had a long haired german shepard ,best dog i ever had ,he died of old age over a month ago, right in front of me,broke my heart..i have 2 short haired shepards now ,which are also beautiful. great breed..i wouldnt have any other breed of dog

  • Another breeder thats an example of being unethical for breeding shepherds that are far over the standards in height and weight. Pretty dogs nonetheless, but you're a irresponable breeder to breed out of the standards. Breeding for size like that is usually a secret way of having a sales pitch to sell your puppies because Americans thing the bigger the better. So many are having hip and health problems because of this, and the true Shepherd males shoudl weigh 90 lbs at the most.

  • 100% spot on

  • Beautiful dogs! German Shepards are fantastic dogs. Hoping to get a couple soon...

  • So cute when he licked the baby's face....:)

  • samson is the name of my bird and he died a week ago T_T

  • Absolutely beautiful !!! Almost as beautiful as my dog ( Samson ) - but thats to be expected ... since Ash is his father.

  • I Had a shepherd named Samson..we called him "SAM". My youngest(now) is a long coat like yours (beautiful dog by the way) named RAYJOE . 119 lbs. Named him for "Joe" from Run Joe Run a favorite tv show when I was a kid. Can you belive it, I heard Hollywood is remaking it into a movie.

  • I LOVE GERMAN SHEAPERDS i cant believe some people think they are vicious! i cant wait till i get one! my mom had one when she was a kid it was a great dog! it was huge! when he sat he was 4 feet tall and lived to be 13 and its name was Bruno

  • Aww I just can't wait til I get one :D

  • fine example....love the dark face too....

  • I want a german shepherd soo bad!! A long coat espically!!

  • We have long coated German Shepherds... I even got one before they became 'fashionable' in New Zealand! Now I wouldn't have any other 'type' of GSD!

  • they just are thé best dogs, got two of 'm to

  • ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

    LUV GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS...

    ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

.Great passion to advocate for! Art and GSD! Blessings... D n' E this is E!

  • i really like how he hangs his head as he walks makes him look wolflike

  • Baby playing w/ German Shepherd was such a cute part of the video... LOL! That's what I love about German Shepherds, they really do have a lot of patience when playing with kids.

  • German Shepherds are amazing dogs... This is a very, I must say, a "Cute Giant."

  • So great to see the big gentle dog so loving with the baby.

  • . o O ( why would anyone want to dress a horse like dog )

  • he looks like a gentle giant

  • he looks like a gentle giant

  • Yep, that´s not a little cat, or a rat that can bark ........

    this is a REAL dog.

  • ok has any one herd of a german sheperd playing fetch with a metal bowl as in a food bowl and chase after it and bark at it lol bc there is a reson im saying this

  • geman shepherds are the best dogs

  • I miss my Shepy, he was my best friend! I got him when i was 9 and he passed away the day after my 21st birthday. It's been almost three years and i'm just now thinking of getting another one.

  • How is the shedding compared to the short-haired ???

  • I cant understand how patient they are among babies... I just love GSDs. They are so awesome!!

  • Those dogs are great! I have one....and he is awesome....unless he doesn't know you and you get too close to me or raise your voice at me--he will rip your throat out. Very smart dog--he understands English and German better than most humans. Man's best friend. I didn't understand that saying until I owned a German Shepherd--most intelligent and BRAVE dog ever. It shows by the way yours is so gentil around your child. Nice job with your dog. Nice vid.

  • geman shepherds are the best dogs they are great with children i have a 95 pound male i raised with my daugter she was a baby and him a puppy she is now six him five that is his girl when she is at the house do not go around her if he does not know you he would honestly try to kill you but he is so gentle with her much respect for the breed.

  • i think he's looking for a drink of water

  • ohhhhhhh so cute! i want one with my yorkie ruben!

  • wow........thats a big boy then!!!

  • you sure these aren't shiloh shepherds?

  • Our dogs are not Shiloh Shepherds, if you check out our website you will see a page that goes into more information about this.

  • wow bootiful shepherd.

That size isnt too shocking to me though.

    Shepherds tend to be big.

Ive seen shepherds weigh 120 pnds.

    Pure muscle too.

But that shepherd was very pretty,

and i love how hes so gentle with the baby :]

Shows what an outstanding breed the German Shepherd is.

  • Wow! I just want to say to the breeders who made this video that you guys are doing an AMAZING job with these dogs. They seem to be extremely well trained! Keep up the good work!

  • A friend of mine has an even bigger one, alpha male with bloodline but this one here is impressive too

  • There is no such thing as an Alpha Male in a human home. Unless is the one that wears the pants in the house. :P

  • roberrto it doesnt matter which color the coat is its when its bigger when its a puppy

  • poor little fella he /she has dat hip problem my gsd had rip matrix

  • Sorry to hear that your dog had hip problems, Ash does not and has x-rayed normal hips, rated by the Orthopedic Foundation of Animals.

  • She is a monster! Too bad about the hooked tail. It's not that bad but one of the first things my friends and I look at after the hips.

  • Is this just what she does when she is curious? Some parts show the tail normal.

  • Yor dog is the best! congratulations!

  • I have one like this but she is a King Shepherd. The are a recognized breed by the Rarities Club ,ARBA, and the King Shepherd Club. The people who actually abide by the strict breeding standards set by the King Shepherd Club produce amazing animals. They have almost none of the health problems that plague German Shepherds because of bad breeding and live 12-14 years .

  • I have one of these. Awesome.

  • The scene with the baby says it all.I trust my dogs more than i trust some humans, sad but true.

  • yes but its only an animal. it got instinct and do not think:) but good luck anyway

  • great dog! any german shepherd can take easyly on a pitbull any day. the'llutsmart them

  • I made a delivery this summer to a house in my town, nobody was home but a giant German Shepherd like this. He was on a balcony glass walls. He came up to a gap in the glass, stuck his snout through and offered me his paw! I spent a couple of minutes with this big guy and well, he was great. I have a German Shepherd/Black Labrador (my 2nd) and like GS's. The scene near the end with the child is just like my dog, same goofy temperament!

  • Franz von Assisi:

Dass mir mein Hund das Liebste sei, sagst du oh Mensch sei Sünde, mein Hund ist mir im Sturme treu, der Mensch nicht mal im Winde.

That me my dog is the dearest, you say oh humans are sin, my dog are to me in the Sturme faithfully, humans not times in hoist

  • absolute gorgeous

  • 2:34, I have a GSD that does the same with my Labrador.

  • German shepherds are beautiful and majestic creatures.

  • He is Gorgeous!

    What a Tail!

    Awesome dog.

  • hes not that big

  • my german shepherd rocky is much bigger and so is my bitch shepehrd sophie and they are 7yr and 3yrs.6 months

  • This was so friggin awesome

  • Those who say the baby shouldn't be near the dog obviously can't tell how well trained and brought up he was.

My old German Shepard who died a few months ago was very similar, mild temperered and was around about the same size.

They are truly mans best friend and are lovely when brought up correctly, and when a baby was brouyght over the dog was very protective of the baby was always around it and sat near it's side like it was it's owner!

  • No worries what so ever to have a dog with the baby, if the dog has a good and loyal personality, the baby is safe and sound in its company.

  • Nice dogs, but I did not think it was safe to put one near the baby.

  • Really nice dogs! No offense but i think you should keep the baby away from him.

I am all with you Human5912.

    No offense at all!

  • What a beauty!!! Thanks for entering him into the contest!

  • I love German Shepperds!
