  • thanks for the response, by the way if you are looking for an "over the top" fiddle player, Peter Huntlinger (a great finger style guitarist) was touring ,about two yrs ago with a your lady, about your age, as his fiddle accompanist-unbelievable-, I dont know her name, perhaps thru Peter Huntlinger, ..if your interested

  • Fantastic...as are all your tunes. Please check out "busker12" (Macyn Taylor) on you tube especially her Leo K cover of Airproofing Two. I think you will really appreciate it. There are only a handful of people in the world who handle and even inprove on some Kottke tunes, and Macyn is one of them.

  • @petersinesi Thank you very much. Yes, I've seen quite a few of her tunes and they're dead on. Really impressive stuff.

  • Oh Yea, the tuning. You will tune down two whole steps or tune the bottom E string at the fifth fret, A note, down to where the first fret is or what would be the F position. This means the A should ring at the first fret. Tuning is the standard EADGBE.

  • I gotta tell ya, that is just fabulous playing. I can do Vasaline Machine Gun and there is plenty to learn the subroutines. It took years of work to get it and the help of a vid by slightreturn / Matt. Damn he is good. Your playing, even Leo Kottke himself would say, great bravo. A lot of people molest peoples stuff. You didn't do that here. One thing I learned, it doesn't have to be dead on. It can get sterile. Yours is right on, right there and your skill just great.

  • SICK!

  • Good job kiddo. I've been listening to Kottke since about 1972 and you do a fantastic version. A little fast, but well.... we get carried away don't we?.....

  • hey, great job. do you have an accurate tab for this song? thanks a lot =)

  • Hey dude, Fucking loved that!!

    was so good! :D

Just wondering what tuning is the guitar in?

not too sure because of the tweleve strings! :P

  • You should be very proud of your playing of this Kottke classic. It's outrageously hard to play and you pretty much got it down.

  • Excellent! This is no problem, at your age, but, someday you may have to ditch the fingerpicks. By about the age of 35, they started messing around with my circulation and tendons. I was set right using brush-on acrylic nails. Only slight changes in technique were required. Keep up the mighty playing. You're good!

  • You're bloody great. Keep it up.

  • well done! Great job.

  • Well done. Clean sounds, good reproduction of the original. Thanks for sharing here.

  • marry me.

  • Leo would/will be proud of you awesomeness

  • I hate youtube. Just when you think you know someting, a teenage kid comes out of the blue and sends you back to school.

  • Yeah don't you know it huh?

  • wow your deadly!!!!

  • Incredible performance!! You even look like Leo in his younger years.

  • wow kid i agree you need to go out and perform in public (if you don't already)

  • you're doin real good. beyond impressive. keep it up

  • ...thisdifficult even, that Leo doesn't get it right in front of the mic and the camera himself (since yesterday on youtube)...

  • Best Kottke cover on youtube, this piece isn't easy...

  • It's a slight bit rushed, but fantastic nonetheless.

  • wow thats perfect playing 5 stars from germany

  • This kid is incredible. I suggest you get out of your bedroom and start going to open mics at coffeeshops.

  • Great job!!!

  • Serious props, dude! Thanks for a great cover!

  • bravo man, awesome work!

  • Very good indeed. Nice job!

  • i'll admit it..i'm slightly jealous!

  • DAAAAAAMMMNNNN! great cover bro

  • Very, very good. You hit the harmonics perfectly!!

  • dude. i'm floored. you teach yourself that?

  • BAD ASS!!!! NICELY DONE!

  • Nicely done.

  • damn good stuff

  • Hey kid, you are GOOD! This is my favourite Kottke track and you've done a great job with it. Normally I'm embarassed by the standard of covers on YouTube, but not with this one. Bravo!

  • Very well done. Keep up the good work.

  • whoa--ive been watching a couple of your videos. youre incredible......fantastic. keep it up--you need to be famous so everyone can enjoy this.

  • Wow!

  • Excellent cover!

  • nice job! is the guitar tuned standard or not? Im tryin to figure this out for myself

  • yes and no. its like standard tuning, only ive tuned the whole guitar down 2 whole steps. for the most part theyre pretty normal chord shapes. a g, c, c7 and d7 which is played just like the c7 but up two frets.

  • thanks bro

  • Holy cow! You are fantastic. So wonderful. Keep it up, buddy. Kottke has three hands, so I don't know how you're able to do this.

  • You are so young and talened never stop playing leo would be so proud

  • Good Work, but the tempo is too fast i guess.

  • Nice work...that has always been one of my favourite Kottke tunes.

  • Can you talk a little about your guitar? How do you like the 24.9 scale and the 1 11/16 neck combo?

  • on the 000-28h? i like it a lot. it is particularly good for finger style and blues (eric clapton's martin is a 000). it it easy to bend the strings and fairly easy to hit chords that require a bit of a stretch. admittedly for flat picking i might prefer a bit of a longer scale length, but ist still works fine. the string spacing is good for all of the aforementioned styles; fairly far apart and therefore pretty easy for stuff where youre playing only one/tw strings at a time, etc. its great.

  • Excellent performance. How long did it take you to learn all this? Must've been months?

  • well sort of months. i'd work on it, then give up for a while, then work on it some more, until it finally got presentable.

    thanks.

  • you should really get rid of those pics...you're gonna hurt yourself

  • Good going bud! One hint for you, Leo does the 2nd half of that harmonic riff at the 7th & 5th fret (in that order). The last note of the riff will be the harmonic at the 5th fret on the g string.

Again, kick-ass. SlightReturn will be pissed! ;-)

    Joe

  • thanks, and thanks for the tip. that does make more sense.

  • HA! I hate relying on "modern slang" but hot damn man, you're right...I have been pwnt.

Keep it up! Your control and timing are both ridiculous, and you're improving exponentially. I agree with Joe completely -- kick-ass in every sense of the phrase...I'm going to go check my posterior for welts now.

  • haha thanks! you should try this piece if you haven't already; its a trick to get it up to speed bet its really rewarding
