Absolutely wonderful!!!I didn't know there was a Stan Kenton Alumni Band!!!! The first jazz concert I ever attended at age ten, 1951,was Stan Kenton's great orchestra! It put me on the path!
"But it has Moanin'..."? That was the point. If you check out my arrangements on this CD, every tune was based on "Live at the London House" CD. Thus, Ed Thigpen being on it, etc. A lot harder than it seems than just borrowing or ripping something off.
you see it's always one thing to play Oscar Peterson's tunes note for as you played in other videos and do something as your own wich (for me of course) is very very far from the original : no intention, no REAL SWING, and no ideas from your own.
I can understand that you love so much Oscar that you wanted to play like him but you have to find your way !
Hear other musicians ! Hear Phineas Newborn, Lenny Tristano etc You're talented so use this talent to develop your style...
Thanks, but like I've been telling others, do you hear how I play now? The videos you're talking about are 4 years old. Check out "Billville" and see if you think it sounds like Oscar. Let me know if it doesn't swing and if there are no original ideas. Thanks!
Beeee auuteeful! that was a very nice session and interesting get a peek behind the studio glass to see how these greats lay them tracks down on the wax BRAVO
Whoa Lionel Hampton, Ed Thigpen... Jim not only do you have A list buddies, you get to play with the legends too. It must be an honour. Ed was superb and you were excellent. You bassist was amazing too.
Great track..Ed is one of the ALL time best and SOOO underrated. Man..he can groove.

Great tune, a hard bop classic. O.P. hated it, but then he recorded it.
I enjoyed your music with this legend of drums, you're in the right way!

Love your playing. I'm a male singer and I've recorded with players like Joe Massimino and Rob Mullins, your style is just as tight. Love it!

Your playing is awesome ! I love this song ! My only criticism : hire another bass player. He's got a mushy tone....HA! U know I'm just messin' !

Also, the song on this session, if you read the liner notes, is a Tribute to Oscar and the London House Session. But I do appreciate your comments.
