  • Please! Does someone can tell me who is that person behind them? Is he actor or Oliver's son? Is he still alive?

  • Wonderful to see these..thanks for sharing.

  • This was filmed shortly before (about two weeks) Oliver Hardy died. It was rumored Hardy had terminal cancer (others said he went on a rapid weight loss regimen) and is why he looks like he lost so much weight.

  • @Redskin1040 It looks quite obvious to me, that Hardy, has something much more severe than rapid weight loss. For example, he is very much underweight.

  • @bakelitetim Letters written by Stan Laurel, mention that Hardy had terminal cancer, which caused some to suspect this was the real reason for his weight loss. Hardy was a heavy smoker, as was Stan Laurel. Hardy suffered a major stroke on 9/14/56, which left him confined to bed and unable to speak for several months. He remained at home. He suffered two more strokes in early August 1957, and slipped into a coma from which he never recovered. He died on 8/7/57, at the age of 65.

Under doctor's orders to improve a heart condition, Hardy lost over 100 pounds (45 kg; 7.1 st) in 1956. Several strokes resulted in loss of mobility and speech. He died of a stroke on August 7, 1957. Longtime friend Bob Chatterton said Hardy weighed just 138 pounds (63 kg; 9.9 st) at the time of his death. Hardy was laid to rest at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park, North Hollywood. wikipedia
