I own this model, but for the life of me i cannot get the milk to steam properly. How long are you preheating for the steam? How much do you turn the steam dial? How deep is the wand tip? I notice that the surface of your milk is quite still, whereas mine is rather tumultuous. Any suggestions?
@ShallowJam It's a bit hit and miss. Sometimes I get great milk, other times it's rubbish. I steam with the tip just immersed for a while, then plunge to the bottom once it's stretched enough. I find the steam behaviour different depending how often I clean the wand. It seems to work best when it hasn't been stripped and washed for a while. Just cleaned, it makes the milk very tumultuous!
Why don't you just delete this fucking video -- thanks for wasting everyone's time! 1) SPEAK THE FUCK UP, 2) learn how to do this properly, 3) set the camera down, 4) SPEAK THE FUCK UP!
@mateoenkc Awesome. Thanks for the advice. I keep meaning to re-record this using all the wonderful advice I've received from people like you, except most people don't bookend their feedback with profanity. Just because it's YouTube, doesn't mean you have to swear.
Sos bastante improlijo flaco.
What a comedy act :) Made me smile. But man, you'll be in trouble with the Mrs for tapping the coffee holder that was damp over the Illy coffee container!
Man, making a coffee for almost 10 minutes? Why did you not ask someone to hold the camera? It would be a lot better I think, this does not look very good.
HEY THANKS FOR THE VIDEO,I JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST MACHINE AND THIS HELPED ME REALISE A FEW THINGS I DIDNT KNOW.MAN IM STRUGGLING TO MAKE COFFEE USING TWO HANDS NOT SURE HOW YOU DID ALL THAT AND FILMED IT AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!!!!! give more videos when you can its good for everyone to share what they learn
ok so the important thing is that you are trying to help your mate appreciate coffee, and that's never a bad thing. I'm guessing that by now you know what you are doing wrong. :D did you friend get one in the end?
@TheNatchers No, he didn't. He uses a stove top one now and it makes good coffee. I keep meaning to update this video, taking into account all the things people have posted here, but just not got round to it. However, it's still fun to get the "OMFG! fail coffee!" and suchlike.
@HotKofe Yes, it means that the water isn't at the right temperature. Letting it heat up for longer as mentioned by another comment helps with this, although, depending on how much coffee you extract, it may always go off.
@MikePearce I am using the same machine in India for the last one year using filtered water throiugh my RO system. The machine takes long time to warm up properly after running several cups of water. I understand that the water temperature should be 90 Degrees Centigrade for a proper extraction, this machine does not give a temperature over 80 Deg Centigrade, I checked up with a Thermometer. Any tips on achieving the right temperature! or this design cannot give this result ?
@vivekvir1 I have no idea I'm afraid, I leave it for about five minutes (given some advice about that in the comments here). But I don't measure anything for temperature except the milk.
@steclark9 Thanks for the comment. Perhaps you could enlighten me on what I'm doing wrong that hasn't already been posted by other people kind enough to help instead of acting like a douche?
@HusqvarnaRules Pretty rude way of giving the guy advice mate, you sound like some kind of coffee nazi or something. I appreciate the video. Many Thanks @ MikePearce.
@MikePearce: though people recommend burr grinders, I use one of these: "James Martin by Wahl Mini Grinder 150W Stainless Steel ZX595" on £12.30 on Amazon. Though people will say you need a burr grinder to grind fine enough for espresso they are wrong. A burr grinder will allow you to more or less set the fineness of your grind for different purposes (automatically) but you can get very good results from this unit once you get the nack. I do!
@HusqvarnaRules: water in cup ... because he hadn't prewarmed the cup and was warming it up. Seriously it is NOT going to cool down the boiler and will also warm up the whole coffee maker, rather than just the boiler.
Mate, this is so funny! Just bought this machine and the espresso that I am getting out of it is shocking, so I turned to youtube for assistance and there you are! Hope all is good with you.
@HusqvarnaRules Sweet stuff thanks for the tips dude. I definitely appreciate you taking the time to offer constructive criticism and not just a "Bro, UR COFFEE IS TEH SUX". I'd had my suspicions about letting the machine heat up for longer tbh. I don't have a grinder yet, so have to buy pre-ground - why do you say it shouldn't be kept into the refrigerator? Also, this was made a while ago and my coffee making has improved a lot since then (especially measures, tamping and extraction)! Thx again
I have the exact same machine at home and I cannot seem to froth my milk properly. I have watched your video numerous times, but can never seem to get my milk completely frothed up. Like when i pour it into the cappuccino the foam stays in the pitcher rather then pouring into the coffee cup. Rather then have the foamy milk i just have regular milk and colour. Could you please give me insight on what I am doing wrong.
@Figgles274 Hey, it depends on a few things. 1) This machine isn't great at making anything like microfoam. You'll need a professional coffee machine for that. 2) What milk are you using? Skimmed will give you a thick, almost polystyrene like foam if you're not careful, use semi or whole milk. 3) Use a spoon to scoop the foam out when you're pouring (usually, this is what I do!).
Oh Lord. Don't make a video about coffee, if you don't know how to make coffee yourself. If I listed everything that was done incorrectly, here - The comment would be huge. Espresso is an ART, not well, whatever the hell you were doing.
@adamaliabarnes Yeah, coffee making is an art. Have you ever tried to paint a picture with one hand while holding a video camera in the other? It's unfortunate individuals like yourself - coffee snobs - who feel it necessary to belittle anyone trying to do anything like making themselves a nice coffee at home that are the real problem. It was an OK coffee and I make a habit at drinking coffee at award winning London coffee houses, so I know it's not perfect, but it will do for an at home machine
@adamaliabarnes You could always show everyone YOUR skills and reply to this video with one of your own, no? Put your money where your mouth is right?
it depends how far you want to go and how much you like coffee there is a massive difference between a machine like this and a semi commercial machine like the silvia in all aspects quality of coffee mainly

@DaveTheJackal You can grind fine enough with a mortal and freakin pestle but it won't be consistent in size. That's the problem.
