I didn't see this comment earlier, sorry. No, you don't have to give any one a Bathing Suit. You have to complete her Story Event though. The Bathing Suits are optional Gifts.
Okay, so this confirms my suspicion that acceptance of the Cute Bathing Suit has a lower heart level requirement than the Amazing Bathing Suit. At 5, they still refuse ALL Bathing Costumes. At 6, they accept the Cute one and will wear it and at 8, they will accept the Amazing Bathing Suit but NEVER wear it.
Have you tried experimenting with giving your chosen wife in the game the Amazing Bathing Suit and seeing if she will wear it, rather than a non-married bachelorette? Just a thought.
Was it the Cute Bathing Suit or the Amazing. Did they wear the Cute Bathing Suit at 6 Hearts? The Date option never appears until a Girl reaches 8 Hearts and there are other requirements in some cases, such as Anette, Iris Blanche and Iris Noire.
The Date Option for a Girl will appear either at 8 Hearts or when you have completed specific Events AND she has reached at least 8 Hearts. For Tabatha and Eunice, it appeared as soon as they reached 8 Hearts, for example. It will appear for Iris only when she moves to Trampoli and has reached 8 Hearts... Each girl is different.

The Amazing Bathing Suit never is worn but the Cute Bathing Suit will be worn by a girl if you give it to her. I made another video about that.
