I'm getting a guild f512 but i dont know if i should get the antique burst or natural? Also it just me or is the pickguard bigger on the antique compared to the natural??
re-stringing and tuning a twelve string guitar is only as hard as you make it. The easy way is to use an electronic tuner for tuning. When re-stringing, start with the G sting, then the D, then B, A, e, E, Then the same thing with the harmonic strings. This reduces the back and forth strain on the neck (pulling the strings out of tune) and makes for an easier re-tune.
@RaptorLewis@RaptorLewis as you put the strings on, start with the outside one and tune the string sharp as you install thm ahd it will pull it flat to tune as you install the other strings. and always retune the strings you just installed after installing the next string. and as you tighting the nut -lock ( don't over tighten, it don't take much tourqe to hold the string) it will pull flat. raaaise the tuners on the bridge to mostly out, as so you can compensate for the string streching.
@crackmunch it was actually just drop d, but i was wrong about this initially too lol. if it was open d the D chord he plays wouldnt have needed the finger placement.
That appears to be a real Guild, not a Fender "Guild". Fender ownds Guild, Gretsch, and anyone else they can get their hands on. Im sur Sir David has peeps to find him real Guilds, late 50's strats etc.
It only sounds different from other versions because the 12-string guitar usually played was either a Gibson or Ovation 12-string, as opposed to the Guild 12-string shown on this clip.
@Tioheronte WTF!!!!! WHAT ARE YOU SAYING!!! if you don't know those song you have got life, but you don't know how use it. The song is called wish you were here, and for me is one of the best song of pink floyd.
@kokopilko I said the same thing but got a new black Fender accoustic electric 12 string and put new strings on it in about an hour, and tuned it the easy way with a tuner. I am in no way a very good guitarist and changing the strings was not as hard as I thought.
@kokopilko i'd rather restring that than a floating floyd rose setup with a nut lock.... takes me forever! by the time you get to 4th string the 1st 3 are miles out!! :-(
haha i love how he is like but you dont want to listen to that old rubish and he smiles becasue he knows we were all at the edge of our seats listening hell ya we wanna here that old rubish hahah and he knows it
@01orochimaru10 The BBC guy is Alan Yentob, a very respected man, who has made many many excellent programmes on all things Art for many years. He was asking that question so that he could get an interesting response from David.
He said "old rubbish"!!!! Crazy, I love Wish You Were Here, and I wish he and the remaing would start touring as Pink Floyd again.....*sigh* its not gonna happen is it? = [
@21313334 not really. what made floyd what it was was when rick, roger, and david all worked together and share the work equally. it wasn't just david, or just roger.
THAT is a beautiful sounding 12 string. I've been using my old ovation for 20 years....it's great for what it is..but I want a really good sounding one. guilds are not inexpensive and somehow lack the glamour of the gibson B-45. what to do.
wrong strings can cause a warp and heat and tempeture and cheap wood like plywood guitars. Harmonys and martins usually have neck problems when they get old the necks warp and sometimes come loose.
its a good idea to get a guitar with a adjustable neck and a quality guitar then you dont have to worry about paying a luthier to get a neck reset. cheap guitars fall apart and dont last you get what you pay for. Not all guitars have adustible necks so the necks warp and sometimes come loose with age if you really like the guitar you can dump money into it and get the neck fixed.
@EyeHawk777 ...everyone , who played a stringed Instrument in the sixties- and senties, didn´t need a tuner, cause tey was too expensive, everione did learn to hear, to tune a guitar this was learned at the first lessons...sorry about my bad english, it`s not my language. .)
@rallegai your so right, now days the kids i know all have tuners near by. i loosen my strings when not playing to save my neck and body from warping, so every time i pick up one of my guitars i have to re-tune them to my liking anyway. and i do not own a stinking tuner. my dad would kick my ass if i used one. lol.
@claptonguitar90 Yes there is. Especially with a 12 string. Unless you like paying a good luthier lots of money to do a neck reset. Over time the wood in the dovetail compresses from tension and the neck angle changes. The only way to fix it is to remove the neck, build up the joint, and put it back together. If the neck uses a glued joint the only way to get it off is to remove the higher frets, drill holes through the fret slots, and steam the joint to loosen the glue.
I hope that the interviewer values the fact that he's floating on the Heavenly Astoria houseboat chattering with "the history" himself ...doesn't happen to anybody any-day
and also, of course they are just as easy as 6-strings, but bending is the question. 12-string = diminished bends and distances, due to how hard it is to bend 2 strings so close and not have them touch eachother and cancel the sound. simple.
i think he just tuned the top of the bottom E and A to E and A to make fifths or fourths harmonies on the E and A. Just a guess, cause he used the A for reference to the high low E. Just a guess.
I have been playing guitar for many years now and every time I hear David Gilmour play it's like I have just begun to learn how to play. He makes the guitar sound like a dream and that you don't ever want to wake up. Hands down, Mr. Gilmour is King.

@mcdunlo Their heads are green, they're ducks. Geese have longer necks and are colored black, white or gray. Not that anyone here really gives a shit, or should.
I don't think they could have gotten a worse person to do the interview. Watch the rest to see what I mean
