  • I don't think they could have gotten a worse person to do the interview. Watch the rest to see what I mean

  • I Bought my 12 string thanks to this video ;)

  • Brilliant interviewer: "why would you use a 12-string?" derp

  • @chaplingean "Listen to that.." 0:12

"Yes, I can see that." Derp x2

  • What is he playing initially?

  • @EyeHawk777 Wish you where here.

  • Dafuq is that at 0:29? Is he casting a spell?

  • Old Rubbish = GOD SOUND!

  • 797 people wanted to hear that old rubbish.

  • re-stringing and tuning a twelve string guitar is only as hard as you make it. The easy way is to use an electronic tuner for tuning. When re-stringing, start with the G sting, then the D, then B, A, e, E, Then the same thing with the harmonic strings. This reduces the back and forth strain on the neck (pulling the strings out of tune) and makes for an easier re-tune.

  • Great, soul good

  • Gilmour: Anyway, you don't want to hear all that old rubbish. Interviewers: ha, yes!.....we do....

  • I wana hear that old rubbish!!!!

  • if that gets un tuned it must be hell

  • Legend!

  • "Why would you use a 12-string?" "Just listen". Stupid question calls for an obvious answer,

What a total cock that 'interviewer' is... Does he even know who the fuck he is talking to?! I can't believe my TV licence pays for that guy...

  • Gilmour's incredible

  • I love David Gilmour, but if he describes "Wish You Were Here" as "Old Rubbish" again, I WILL through him in the lake.

  • I for one want to "hear that whole rubbish".

  • @VypalonG I think he says old doesnt he?

  • any 1 knows what model of guild guitar is that?

  • @evilekkk It's definitely a Guild

  • he actually still looks really good for an older guy:P

    I'm a hetero dude, btw :D :P

  • I got the chills at the beginning of the vid, even more while typing this lol

  • Lies, David. We DO want to hear that old rubbish, as you refer to it.

  • Only 3 people on the planet who don't think Floyd are the greatest are Rog, Dave and Nick - modest pricks!

  • Does anyone know what model Guild Dave is playing here? I've read that he uses an F512, maybe this is one?

  • Wish You Were Here is not rubbish, Mr. Gilmour!! Your guitar speaks the language of the soul!

  • @RaptorLewis @RaptorLewis as you put the strings on, start with the outside one and tune the string sharp as you install thm ahd it will pull it flat to tune as you install the other strings. and always retune the strings you just installed after installing the next string. and as you tighting the nut -lock ( don't over tighten, it don't take much tourqe to hold the string) it will pull flat. raaaise the tuners on the bridge to mostly out, as so you can compensate for the string streching.

  • I bought a guild 12 string one time from a pawnshop with a broken neck for 50 bucks, I never could fix it. Burned it after 10 yrs.

  • I just can't believe he calls that rubbish! Assume he is just shielding himself.

  • I'm sick of that overplayed song.....unless the master himself plays it. I could listen to David play all day long.

  • just rented a 12 string today. inspired by none other than this divine man

  • I can't play 6 strings...

  • what is that thing that David does with his hand at :29 ?

  • @unluckymonkeyboy a magic move!

  • @unluckymonkeyboy this guitar was tuned to open D, so he tuned the e strings up to E. yay

  • @crackmunch it was actually just drop d, but i was wrong about this initially too lol. if it was open d the D chord he plays wouldnt have needed the finger placement.

  • O -- M-E-S-T-R-E

  • dgs a boss

  • @iancosgrove He could play it with a ukulele

  • Dave Gilmour tuning his guitar....<3 <3 <3

  • what was he playing at 0:19?

  • That appears to be a real Guild, not a Fender "Guild". Fender ownds Guild, Gretsch, and anyone else they can get their hands on. Im sur Sir David has peeps to find him real Guilds, late 50's strats etc.

  • Sounds so good, it's like an orgasm of sound

  • Comment removed

  • What song is that at around 0:40 ?

  • @Tioheronte "Wish You Were Here"

It only sounds different from other versions because the 12-string guitar usually played was either a Gibson or Ovation 12-string, as opposed to the Guild 12-string shown on this clip.

  • @Tioheronte Pink Floyd-Wish You Were Here.... LOL :)

  • @Tioheronte WTF!!!!! WHAT ARE YOU SAYING!!! if you don't know those song you have got life, but you don't know how use it. The song is called wish you were here, and for me is one of the best song of pink floyd.

  • arrogant fucking reporter

  • Wish you were here one of the simplest songs, but good luck trying to make it sound like him!!

  • nice house buddy:)

  • 6 people wish they were here.

  • fantastic

  • I'd get a 12 string, if it wasn't a living nightmare to restring.

  • @kokopilko I said the same thing but got a new black Fender accoustic electric 12 string and put new strings on it in about an hour, and tuned it the easy way with a tuner. I am in no way a very good guitarist and changing the strings was not as hard as I thought.

  • @kokopilko I know how you feel lol

  • @kokopilko they're worth it trust me

  • @kokopilko ....just have your guitar tech do it! :)

  • @kokopilko Not to mention tuning it.

  • @kokopilko i'd rather restring that than a floating floyd rose setup with a nut lock.... takes me forever! by the time you get to 4th string the 1st 3 are miles out!! :-(

  • @jaydaintith Try tuning from the outside strings inwards. not from top to bottom / bottom to top. helps keep the tension on the bridge even...

  • @Kristoffer470 thanks for the tip mate i'll give that a try next time :-)

  • @kokopilko no better tuning, they have to be exactly the same, its a real pail, but a lovely sound :)

  • @kokopilko Get somebody to do it for you?

  • @kokopilko I have a doubleneck 6 and 12 acoustic...stringing it is only half the nightmare, the other half is tuning it...:P

  • I love his '' Hmmm, once in a while''

  • 12 strings are a really amazing sounding guitars. I feel like getting one. I love that music tune at 0:35, sounds beautiful.

  • Dave Gilmour..... One of Roger Waters's best ever accompanying guitarists

  • The finest guitar player in the world, bar none...

  • DG is the only man who plays Wish You intro in suitable way, love it

  • @BlisherMG And he is the only man who tunes a 12 string guitar in less than 20 seconds :-)

  • haha i love how he is like but you dont want to listen to that old rubish and he smiles becasue he knows we were all at the edge of our seats listening hell ya we wanna here that old rubish hahah and he knows it

  • Anyway...you dont listen to that rubish.

  • thumbs up if you wish he would play something else than Wish you were here

  • @pmartin8 You'll probably get a bunch of thumbs down instead, but not from me.

  • 6 People use a 6string guitar

  • Comment removed

  • @Magikrequiem Or its six dislikes from the six strings of a really ignored guitar after its owner went out a got a 12 string! lol

  • 1:12

Gilmour: "Anyways you don't want to hear that whole rubbish..."

    Interviewer" "yeeeeeeeeessssssss!"

  • i could watch him for hours and hours playing that 12 string guitar... He is the best of the best <3

  • i prefer 20 string guitar...

  • oh yes we do !!!!!

  • GOD david is a beast!!!

  • BBC Guy just shut the fuck up :V and let he play real music :Q____

  • @01orochimaru10 The BBC guy is Alan Yentob, a very respected man, who has made many many excellent programmes on all things Art for many years. He was asking that question so that he could get an interesting response from David.

  • "anyway you don't wanna hear that rubbish" ...... OMG .. yes we DO.

  • @michaelaussie1

he probably thinks of the particular song as something composed for the average teenage ''bedroom-star'' to play...

  • I love him!!!

  • Amazing

  • wow like thunder from the sky, sounds powerful:)love u gilmour u are the best!!!

  • What Kind of guitar is that?

  • @guitarheroguy5 its a guild 12 string. If you go on the guild website you can find it

  • I s he being interviewed by Larry David?! Pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty good!

  • There's nothing like old rubbish....

  • I have tried playing a 12 string but my fingers are too big...

  • @SRone45 You sure? Gilmours a big bloke, must have the same problems.

  • @SRone45 if you angle your fingers a decent bit, its a little easier for big fingers

  • He said "old rubbish"!!!! Crazy, I love Wish You Were Here, and I wish he and the remaing would start touring as Pink Floyd again.....*sigh* its not gonna happen is it? = [

  • @bootcamp661 not really pink floyd without rick.

  • @kermicheo - Many feel that way about Roger. If David plays it, it's Floyd. It really is as simple as that.

  • @21313334 not really. what made floyd what it was was when rick, roger, and david all worked together and share the work equally. it wasn't just david, or just roger.

  • what a legend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 0:21 Damn those ducks got to meet freaking David gilmour, "sigh" if only I was a duck....

  • The unconventional bass notes on one of the best guitars I've heard are making me high. Is the first jam he plays from a song?

  • @jonlebon then why are you watching this video?

  • I can see that....?Does the man not have ears?

  • THAT is a beautiful sounding 12 string. I've been using my old ovation for 20 years....it's great for what it is..but I want a really good sounding one. guilds are not inexpensive and somehow lack the glamour of the gibson B-45. what to do.

  • wrong strings can cause a warp and heat and tempeture and cheap wood like plywood guitars. Harmonys and martins usually have neck problems when they get old the necks warp and sometimes come loose.

  • its a good idea to get a guitar with a adjustable neck and a quality guitar then you dont have to worry about paying a luthier to get a neck reset. cheap guitars fall apart and dont last you get what you pay for. Not all guitars have adustible necks so the necks warp and sometimes come loose with age if you really like the guitar you can dump money into it and get the neck fixed.

  • @jonlebon AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, good joke ;')

  • OF COURSE WE WANT TO HEAR THAT OLD RUBBISH!

  • The man is a fuckin genious END OFF

  • Just waited for this chords and he played them, awesome!

  • brand and price please?

  • "anyway, you don't want to hear that old rubbish." Why yes, yes David, I would.

  • does anyone know what kind of guild that is?

  • @zectofrazer Hi, david plays a guild f512!

  • 5 people hate like the ducks at 0:20

  • he doesnt even need a tuner!

  • @EyeHawk777 ...everyone , who played a stringed Instrument in the sixties- and senties, didn´t need a tuner, cause tey was too expensive, everione did learn to hear, to tune a guitar this was learned at the first lessons...sorry about my bad english, it`s not my language. .)

  • @rallegai your so right, now days the kids i know all have tuners near by. i loosen my strings when not playing to save my neck and body from warping, so every time i pick up one of my guitars i have to re-tune them to my liking anyway. and i do not own a stinking tuner. my dad would kick my ass if i used one. lol.

  • @caveman1968 You're the man. :(

  • @caveman1968 There is no point to loosen off your strings when not playing your guitar, thats what a trust rod is for.

  • @claptonguitar90 Yes there is. Especially with a 12 string. Unless you like paying a good luthier lots of money to do a neck reset. Over time the wood in the dovetail compresses from tension and the neck angle changes. The only way to fix it is to remove the neck, build up the joint, and put it back together. If the neck uses a glued joint the only way to get it off is to remove the higher frets, drill holes through the fret slots, and steam the joint to loosen the glue.

  • @rallegai you're english is quite good =D

  • @EyeHawk777 If u need a tuner to tune your guitar from D to E u are totally def buddy...

  • @EyeHawk777 Sorry, from C to D

  • its a shame there is more vids of gilmour talking about guitars etc.

  • somebody pls...have you get tabs from 0:15-0:20 ? :)

  • How many of you want more old rubbish?!

    Here is one.

  • Comment removed

  • 5 people are fucking retarded...

  • I love this man

  • I hope that the interviewer values the fact that he's floating on the Heavenly Astoria houseboat chattering with "the history" himself ...doesn't happen to anybody any-day

  • 5 people hate whats right with the world

  • I would kill for a Guild 12 String!

  • I like the ducks..very relaxing scenic view

  • that would suck if one of the middle strings broke!

  • and also, of course they are just as easy as 6-strings, but bending is the question. 12-string = diminished bends and distances, due to how hard it is to bend 2 strings so close and not have them touch eachother and cancel the sound. simple.

  • i think he just tuned the top of the bottom E and A to E and A to make fifths or fourths harmonies on the E and A. Just a guess, cause he used the A for reference to the high low E. Just a guess.

  • @boonexy really? i want to do that

  • oh my god... what a sound !!!

  • I really want a 12 string but I'm afraid I'm so lazy I would never summon the energy to change all 12 of those strings.

  • did he tune to the E tune a D ??

  • Tease!...

  • Amazing.

  • 12 strings are probably easier to play too..

  • Daaaaaavid, WHY DID YOU STOP?

  • I have been playing guitar for many years now and every time I hear David Gilmour play it's like I have just begun to learn how to play. He makes the guitar sound like a dream and that you don't ever want to wake up. Hands down, Mr. Gilmour is King.

  • i wish i had a twelve string :(

  • "why do you use a 12 string"......whata plonker of a question.

ive a 12 takamine and i play every feckin day and i fuckin love every second.

  • David Gilmour is so under rated.

  • @oDayton I don't think so. He is considered to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

  • @Gege42 Yeah, you could say that out of all the guitarist in the world he is considered one of the best, but out of the few who were actually making beautiful music, no, he is not given the credit (as a guitarist) that he deserves.

  • Thumbs up for the ducks at 0:21!!

  • @theycallmenavid Those are geese.

  • @theycallmenavid Those are geese.

  • @mcdunlo Their heads are green, they're ducks. Geese have longer necks and are colored black, white or gray. Not that anyone here really gives a shit, or should.

  • @theycallmenavid THOSE are canadian geese

  • @Breathor (canada geese)

  • @bluegrassbarry i find your lack of grammar disturbing.

  • @Breathor the birds are properly called "canada geese" and not "canadian geese"

  • @bluegrassbarry Well, they are in fact geese from canada... so everyone i know calls them CANADIAN GEESE. problem?

  • Comment removed

  • @tootiredtocare1 Aka Canadian geese.

  • Comment removed

  • @tootiredtocare1 HAHAHA YOU GOT REMOVED, I WIN

  • @theycallmenavid I am pretty sure they were geese not ducks...lol

  • @theycallmenavid Geese.

  • haha iwith iwas that 12 sting:(
