  • Nice car! :-) I think you had a little less gas than I did in the tank to shave off that 0.1 second!

Thanks for the other videos as well!

  • @furlough12 , I think I could have even done a few tenths better were it not for the crappy traction at the start. Thanks for the nice comment, man!

  • Is the 08 hp numbers and acceleration close to the 07 one?

  • @Rowdie999 They're exactly the same power-wise. Only thing is '08 CLK550s have larger wheels and a standard sport-tuned suspension so Im not sure how much that affects performance.

  • @TheStoolEater , Thanks dude. CLK550 is a great, underrated car. Enjoy the ride

  • This thing can really pull. That big V8 roar sounds nice too

  • I timed 4.89 sec 0-60

  • I am thinking to get 2004-05 clk55 amg, now i seen this clk550 i may change my mind anybody know what's the difference? beside quad exhaust on 05 coupe and 280hp vs 260hp

  • @ironbull2003 ,Manydifferences. Newer CLK550 recieved many updates. It has 20 more hp (382 vs. 362), higher max torque at lower rpm, wider torque band, newer 7G-tronic transmission while CLK55 uses the old 5-spd, feels noticeably faster when driven back to back with CLK55, newer 3-bar grill, newer tailights with LED technology, newer center console design, newer generation of COMMAND navi unit. CLK55 has 200mph speedo, quad exhaust, more advanced braking hardware, slightely stiffer chassis.

  • @ironbull2003 , If cost is no issue. CLK550 is the better car overall. The only thing is 2008-2009 CLK550s go for about ~$15K more than 2004-2005 CLK55s

  • @4MATICbenz How about reliability have you had any problems with it so far? I found 2007 550 for around 23k with 50k miles looks like with no AMG badges price tag is not that high

  • @ironbull2003 , Never an issue. Ive had the car for almost a year now and put about 9k miles on it, it has given me no issues whatsoever. If you value reliability, then I would definetely avoid the CLK55s as well as any other earlier 2000s models. For some reason, late model Mercedes' recieve much, much higher dependability/reliability scores and ratings from Consumer Reports and JD Power.

  • @ironbull2003 clk55 amgs are 354 hp\361 tq... The clk 550 goes upto 382 hp\391 tq...The 550 is half a second faster to 60 mph and every other acceleration performance...

  • @08turboSS Thanks man but i am shopping for Cadillac Cts-v now :)

  • i got him at 4.96 sec so yea about 5 sec

  • Your car is very badass

  • 0-60 looks like it's about 5 sec flat.

Pretty damn quick for a car that isnt even an AMG! :)

  • This car is a real sleeper. It's a shame none of the auto mags ever did a road test of it, I'm curious as to what kind of numbers it could put down. My father and a close friend of mine might be taking their identical '09 coupes to the drag strip this weekend so maybe we'll find out then.

  • @VenomGTX , I know, right? And you do realize it was through no fault of the automotive publications. Mercedes of USA deliberately refused to provide any units of the CLK550 for evaluation because 1) 2006 CLK55 AMG customers would have realized they were just ripped off $20K. 2) Its performance figures may have been good enough to hamper sales of the over priced CLK63 Black Series. 3) It would have been compared to newer rivals like the Audi S5 and BMW M3 and potentially lost any comparison test

  • @VenomGTX , but also please do me a favor and report back to me what kind of numbers your father and friend run this weekend. Ive run a 13.280 at Englishtown a few monthes back (timeslip should be posted on dragtimes) and that's in the 300lb heavier convertible version. Im curious to see if a coupe can break 13 flat

  • @4MATICbenz

Wow. I had a feeling that might be the case. I'm confident that a 550 is at least an equal to the 55 AMG in a straight line. The torque curve on these cars is ridiculous and its got a better transmission to boot. It's a shame though, I think it could've at least beat the S5 in a comparison test.

  • @4MATICbenz

I saw your timeslip on dragtimes a while back, before I even saw your video. Small internet! lol. Unfortunately the trip to the drag strip might be moved to next weekend but I'll definitely keep you posted. It's an 1/8 mile strip at the Homestead-Miami Speedway so our goal is to match or beat your time of 8.5. Hopefully I can get a video as well.

  • @VenomGTX , Thanks alot for keeping me posted, man. And yeah it is a real shame, bc even though the CLK550 will have no problems beating the S5 in a straight line, matching its handling limits, and offering a higher array of safety and luxury features, most automotive evaluation mags will have no problem putting an S5, or any 3-series ahead of it in a comparison test finish simply bc 9/10 times, the newer & more refreshing cars place higher in tests even though they may have less merits overall.

  • @VenomGTX i did it in 8.351 @ 86.6 but i am not stock but ran with a few issues on a bad track will be going again soon to beat that time.

  • i'm lucky enough to take an ML550 every month or so for a spin, and man, am I impressed by the car's massive acceleration. What amazes me is how fast it is at just fraction of a throttle. This clk550 is quicker still. What I'd like to know is if the CLKs are any fun when the road gets curved or if you were to do a slalom-type run?

  • @373axle , yeah the torque curve on these motors is excellent. Accelerates strong from any engine speed. Even the 6000lb GL550 has lively acceleration.

About the handling, it's no CLK63 Black Series, BMW M3, or Porsche Cayman. However, it's no luxo-cruiser either. The weight distribution is surprisingly balanced considering the massive engine sitting up front, and the low profile, wide tires combined with the sport suspension give this car sharp handling. A LOT more fun to drive than Audi S5.

  • @4MATICbenz, haha yea, the S5 received a lot of negative comments about its handling & weight when different car sources tested it on the track.

I love the MB 550 models in general, they're really exclusive, I almost never see them where I live. That and I believe most enthusiasts don't know how fast they are.

  • @373axle , exactly. It's overweight and that front wheel drive -based Quattro AWD is the most overrated AWD system in the automotive industry. Too much weight up front and way too much understeer. I didnt much care for the overly light steering effort either.

And yeah it's so funny how so many people put the 550 models on the same keel as the 300 and 350 models. They think it's just another "ordinary" Merc, yet their 1/4 mile times are only mere tenths of a second behind AMG models lol

  • nice car and very fast

  • @LBB988 thanks man

  • ill smoke you 0-60 =D

  • @sikkstreets , Nah lol Ive seen your 0-60 vid. You're running less than two tenths quicker 0-60. Beat me? yes. "smoke" me? absolutely not.

Then again, your coupe's 300lbs lighter, and modded, so it's no surprise it's quicker ;p

  • @4MATICbenz Wow, cant wait to to see the Bmw!!!, you are probably going to have the nicest garage on the block :)

  • Congrats on the new car :), do you still have the e320 and 530i?
