  • Look at all of you guys fighting about war. I'm an American and I felt so disgusted after I saw what the Japanese were forced to do. This movie just shows how pointless war is, fighting over a larger amount of resources and what-not. My two 6 yr old brothers were fighting over a toy and they resolved the problem by SHARING. I don't think a lot of the world leaders know what it's like to lose something, like Saigo did.

  • Its a shame that this scene was recorded with a potato. It was one of the best in the movie....Should have went with the melon instead....

  • Those grenades were awful quick to detonate!!, Not to forget such a small blast radius!

  • @somertonlord Meh must have been not to well thought out when they made the scene

  • This scene makes me hungry

  • gee, those kiska grenades have a pussy blast radius lol

  • did the grenades have a suicide button thing? they were detonating pretty quickly

  • suicide is actually the cowardly way to go...

  • Really? Than kill yourself and let's see how cowardly suicide is.

  • i would say one of the shortcomings of the IJA was their over willingness to die. Many times through out the war they could have instead fallen back, regrouped and mounted another attack. Instead, more often then not they opted for very costly frontal assaults or suicide missions.

  • This is pissing me off Russia is not our enemy nor China.Iran is a threat and NATO and other near countires are worried

  • A film from the Japanese perspective, very interesting, haven't seen that before!

  • I wonder why the world can't live in peace.

  • This gives me a horrible chill in my spine

  • @tripper85 I'd rather kill myself than let fucking gung-ho Americans do with my body what they will. My grandfather explained to me, he's seen American Soldiers pissing on the corpses of Germans that surrendered. Maybe they're all not the same, but if you think that Honor is Cowardice, you must be some chicken-shit pussy raised into worshipping a hypocritical God, and force-fed American Glory movies.

  • @Izula Well thats your opinion. My opinion is that to kill your self during battle is cowardice to the extreme. Going down taking enemies with you is the way to do it. Not to mention that your body would get pissed regardless of you being killed by them or committing suicide. And obviously there so called "honor" code helped the win the war. Hey wait a second...

  • @ThatIsWhatSheHasSaid Right, like Honor is going to keep you from losing to TWO Nuclear bombs.

Don't forget, Japan still had an Emperor at this time, once the war ended they kicked his ass to the curb.

  • @Izula If Japan didn't fight like they did, and didn't kill themselves like they did, there may have been a chance that the nukes could have been avoided. An invasion if Japan would have caused many casualties on both sides. Maybe in the millions. So they the U.S. dropped a-bombs instead. Btw after the war, the emperor took an even bigger role in the Japanese government.

  • @ThatIsWhatSheHasSaid You still have to consider the notion that Harry Truman might've used the bomb to make a point to Stalin, who Truman knew, would become America's new enemy once WW2 was over. Also, the Allies would have nothing less than an unconditional surrender, they didn't want Hirohito in power and yet ironically, after fire and two nuclear bombings killing +300,000 people, they Americans allowed Hirohito to stay... riiigght. I just think America wanted to punish the hell out of Japan

  • @Hippohateszealots To prove a point? They dropped two bombs, if they just wanted to prove a point they would have only dropped one. There were conditions to the surrender btw, such as none of the imperial family could be persecuted, and the emperor stayed in place, but was forced to tell the people of Japan, that he was not a living God.

  • @ThatIsWhatSheHasSaid In a way, you could say that dropping more than one bomb shows America is possibly 'mass-producing' these weapons that would be able to say, strike more than one target (i.e. Moscow, Stalingrad, etc.) if Russia engaged in a war with the US.

Again, there are is no objective truth here, we don't know what really went on in Truman's mind and certain facts still are classified so interpretations will always be around.

  • @Hippohateszealots Thats true. My opinion is that the US wanted to just see how much damage an atomic bomb would do on a large, fully populated city. The second one was just delivered after the Japanese still didn't surrender. But thats just my interpretation.

  • Dieing out of honour is basically this : your too pussy to fight or show your face after surrender.. Saigo was not militarily brain washed. He knew this was senseless killing. He'd rather die for a reason then without one. Rest of the Japanese knew deep inside they had no chance at all fighting an american..So in essence they were too coward to face the competition and would rather kill themselves..Having said that i am not an america. just talking common sense

  • @tripper85 I disagree. Death is something feared as well. In Japanese culture, suicide is honorable. I won't go over the long history of it, but there are roots. And in addition, there are those who prefer to not give their enemy the satisfaction of having their lives in their hands. It's not necessarily a sign of cowardice.

Having said that, I am an Asian-American. I'm just offering my take.

  • i dont know if i was them i would fight until i die they just wasted a total of 8 man i guess if my calculations are right but i know they were defeated but you just dont kill yourself you fight until you die

  • Was I supposed to feel sorry for them in this scene?. Their fanatical ways caused this shit.

  • @lambovsatan225 your dumb.

  • @IFreakSlide No, my friend. I am very sorry but YOU'RE DUMB.

  • @lambovsatan225 then i am very sorry, that your a dumb Nazi bastard.

  • @IFreakSlide And I'm ...."sorry" to say YOU'RE a stupid idiot who's making no sense. What is your point, hm?.

  • @lambovsatan225 and i am sorry that you are a racist youtube ranting troll.

  • @IFreakSlide Oh, I'm a troll?!. Then, what the fuck are you doing, you fucking half-wit?.

You're insulting me for no fucking reason using 4th grade grammar and I'M the fucking troll?.

Nice to know I managed to teach you NOT to use YOU and ARE as a possessive pronoun. The little things we learn everyday, huh?.

  • @lambovsatan225 lol you are the one raging, you are the troll, you are the fat american no life kid. you talk like a fucking cry baby raging ass whiper.

lol you didn't teach me a shit. i don't care how my english are you twittwatfart.

  • @IFreakSlide soo if your not a troll and not an idiot STOP Answering my comments from now on. don't even answer this one. if u answer ur a troll.

  • BANZAIIIIII!!!!!!!

  • for some reason i can understand why they want to kill them self. but i whuld not do it like that. i whuld try to kill as meny enemies as possible.

  • Respect Japs!

  • To those of you who say it's the "cowards way out", grow up, it takes real balls and a shit load of courage to kill yourself so stfu.

  • I would rather die for honor then being surrender.

  • @TakeoMasakiFromJapan that's stupid. I would personally keep on fighting in this situation but kill yourself like that is just stupid

  • @fra2603 i agree, it was a waste of ammunition/grenades/and above all lives. Lives that could have ended the lives of their enemies. If i were in that situation, even as who i am right now, with no way out but death, i would hold my ground and take as many of the enemy down with me as i could

  • @TakeoMasakiFromJapan of course you would behind a computer

  • @TakeoMasakiFromJapan Yes, I believe you... Behind your computer, it's easy to say that. Stupid !

  • It's sad to see the guy who didnt kill himself with the grenade, die in the middle of the movie by that stupid marine! He surrendered dammit.

  • @N3RDProductionz stupid marine? that's just un-american

  • @PhilMickelsonFan1432 If you had seen this film, you would know why he is calling him a stupid marine.

  • @PhilMickelsonFan1432 Sometimes being "un-american" can be quite enlightening, you should try it some time...

  • @N3RDProductionz WOAH! YOU JUST STOP RIGHT THERE! YOU NEED TO SHUT THE FUCK UP DONT TALK SHIT ABOUT MARINES! Semper Fi!

  • @bigmaczado4 WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING I'M NOT DEAF!!!!

  • i suppose a lot of people can assume that what theyre doing is just completely crazy but its mostly because we have hard time putting ourselves in their shoes. Back then, Japan's views were that being captured by the enemy was disgraceful, and so they thought it would be better to kill themselves. They did it for their emperor, so they did know what they were doing.

  • this was a great movie and I respected the japanese for their valiant effort. on the flipside, the character saigo made me throw-up in my mouth. i guess I found the actor's depiction of cowardice overly convincing.

  • @scumatron - it's not cowardly to want to live. Saigo was a baker who had a wife and new baby that he wanted to get back to, of course he didn't want to die.

  • @1412Bunny i understand the desire to live. but you're there, you're in the middle of the battle. wouldn't you feel a sense of responsibility to the man fighting next to you? i disagree with the suicides but this character didn't even fire a single shot.

  • Meh I'd rather charge my enemy in one final age of rage and get shot to pieces

  • these japanese have no idea what are they doing

  • @william89680 I was going to write the same thing

  • for some reason many people dont understand this. i do. it is almost like real life rage quitting. your going to die anyway so dont let the enemy get the honor of killing you. this however was perverted i think from the original bushido code. you usally only killed yourself if you couldnt do any more damage and you were screwed.

  • Japanese were as evil as Nazis.

They abducted 200,000 Asians (also Caucasians), raped them up to 50 times a day & buried them alive to save bullets.

Japanese govt won't apologize to any of surviving sex slaves.

In 2007, Japanese govt org bought 1 pg. of Wall Street Journal & filled it with OUTRAGEOUS LIES: 1) the females were whores who volunteered to service Japanese soldiers. 2) Japanese govt paid them more than Japanese army generals.

GOOGLE: Jan Ruff O'Herne - Japanese military sex slave

  • This was the saddest scene ever.

  • @DwightKoh93 To me the saddest scene is when that officer killed the dog after he heard it isn't dead at all...

  • @DwightKoh93 lol

  • @EyeOfRonclet Honestly, since it's in the Japanese point-of-view. If they were the antagonist, I would think otherwise. KIKIKIKIKIH! XD

  • @grakka443 you are a tard. How are they more brave? They were fighting to protect their homeland, something any country would do. The Americans were fighting to protect others. As for being brave by committing suicide. They could have fought on and took out some more soldiers. If you ask a real Japanese person who actually grew up in Japan they will admit Japan was wrong and has spent 70 years trying to make it right.

  • oh yeah, I'm glad that America won, but I admire most of these Japanese army guys. so don't get it twisted.

  • live to fight another day.

  • BANZAI

  • i never really understood what banging your helmet against the grenade did, wouldn't it just blow up anyway?

  • @Conicalnewt It speeds up the fuse.

  • the Japanese were brave as hell. If only they had been with the west...they would now control Asia

  • @3Slim3Shady3 that and a big fucking nuke

  • pauvre homme pourquoi tant de guerre et d atrocité ? regarder a 1:30

  • this is why japan lost the war, if u lost u kill urself had they fallen back to keep fighting they coulda won. and lived and the glory woulda been greater, but instead they wasted men in this way

  • @3Slim3Shady3 thats not why they lost the war, probably the reason why they were do successful was that the soldiers didn´t fear anything like in this clip...

  • @markhellstone imagine them all fighting to the death rather than killing themselves because defeat is close, it would be demoralising for the allies and and they could even turn it around into victory, remember what sun tzu said about cornering ur enemy.

  • @3Slim3Shady3 (i haven´t seen this movie) but when the japanese were running low on ammo and manpower they mostly charged the americans with swords and bayonets , yes many committed sucide but they were far from being able to change the course of battleif they would have fought to their death. ofcourse the japanese were feared soldiers but not enough to make the americans rout or surrender, and they knew that death awaited them if they surrendered

  • @markhellstone but to face an enemy that will fight to the very last man would be dangerous an costly, if anything an enemy that kills himself makes the job considerably easy, these men commiting suicide were in Mnt Suribachi now imagine the americans attacking those tunnels which are filled by an enemy that will fight to the death. plus they would be cornered and as sun tzu said an enemy with no hope will fight harder because he has nothing to loose while the americans may still retreat

  • @3Slim3Shady3 yeah i´ve read the art of war and i agree that it would be alot more casualities, but the americans were used to it, they fought the whole war like that. most of them really hated the japanese and saw them as bugs and they were determined to exterminate them. so yes the casualities would me much higher, but they would never leave the island, because they knew that they had to do it to win the war.

  • @markhellstone well Iwo Jima is a bad example, they had no air cover or naval support, but i do beleive if they had fought the way i described before they woulda won, although im sure as shit glad they didnt otherwise id be speaking japanese now.

  • @3Slim3Shady3 Well the war was already lost at this point. The Japanese leadership knew that they couldn't win an all out war with the US....the US had a lot more natural resources and industrial capacity. They only attacked Pearl Harbor to get rid of our fleet in the pacific and then negotiate some type of peace deal. They never thought the war would go on for so long.

  • @prepschoolkid well had the attack been a succsess had they hit the carriers in port or even if they had followed through with the 3rd wave, they would have won the war straight away it would have left america open and vulnerable to invasion and the U.S would have fallen before christmas of 42 or had it turned out the way it actually did, had they changed their tactics to fight to the very end rather than suicide when it looks hopeless yea they woulda won again, good thing they were so stupid

  • @3Slim3Shady3 dude... 3 small countries werent going to beat the whole world. japan would have lost anyway, they just did really really good at first. the only way they could have won is if they had conquered one country at a time instead of a ton. the nazi's made the same mistake.

  • @umidontno040394 france conquered Europe, Rome Conquered Europe oh yea it could happen Alexander Conqured Persia, single countries can conquer heaps of land easily its been done, and plus the Nazis had the most advanced weapons in the world they could easily have won the problem was the commanders they didnt make enough of the right weapons and used there man power for the wrong jobs, for example even in 45 hitler sent a 3rd of his troops to sort out the jews.

  • @3Slim3Shady3 but none of those conquered the world. some of those empires didnt last long. it was also easier to conquer others before modern times if you had a good tech advantage. much of rome's empire also came from areas WANTING to be part of the empire. the closest to conquering the world has been just "europe`s" conquering ofthe world but that hasnt just been any one country. in modern times i dont think germany, japan, & italy coudl have conquered the world. maybe if they were nicer

  • @umidontno040394 no Rome Conquered Europe pretty much only through war, the only thing that has stopped a nation from conquering the world is that bad decisions were made.

  • @3Slim3Shady3 i think alot more than bad decisions have stopped nations from conquering. it could be a number of factors. including good decisions on the opposing side.

  • @umidontno040394 dont be so sure, WWI the Battle of the Somme got hundreds of thousands of Brittish soldiers killes, WWII operation Market Garden, just to name 2 mistakes. although WWI and WWII were the same war essentialy

  • @3Slim3Shady3 i'm just saying more factors are in play than a bad decision on the conqueror's part. the other side can make good decisions. or other factors may play a role. the mongols probably would have conquered japan if it had not been for typhoons wiping out nearly their whole fleet...twice. and kublai khan's belief in the supernatural (that the gods liked japan) prevented him from trying a third time. there, weather and religion are 2 factors as an example.

  • I love the hero from this movie. Hope he makes it to his baby.

  • thei have more guts than me

  • Why does it make sense to them to kill themselves instead of killing as many american soldiers as possible before getting killed? Wasting ammunition on themselves and doing the enemy a favor?

  • @Jc40k1 Honor buddy. To us, it's better to die than to be captured by the enemy and executed by them. If you want to see how far back this was, go ahead and look up the term Seppuku or Hara-Kiri.

  • This shit is fucked up. I wouldn't have done suicide. Anyone agree?? I would of atleast try to fight!

  • @Kamensky93 no your right, pussy out and kill yourself is so much better than facing the music.

  • why blow themselves up? why not just shoot themselves?!

  • @Kamensky93 r u crazy killing urself for an emperor that doesnt give a fuck about their own people hell no man

  • why hit it against there helmet?

  • @98vanguard it makes sure that the grenade explodes quickly

  • @TheCharlesis no they do it to arm the grenades. Japanese grenades were different from the americans

  • @98vanguard thats how you arm it. you pull the pin and you hit the grenade against something hard then throw it.

  • @98vanguard They had to hit the grenade against there helmet or something hard to arm the firing pin inside the grenade.

  • To the japanese, getting captured by the enemy was an embarasing thing so to them it was better to die with honour

  • @TheNinjanordundor the japanese also saw fit to rape Chinese and Korean women of all ages on a massive scale. Japan is nice and all, but when it comes to WW2, seriously fuck these guys.

  • @Volf99 But these soldiers were forced to go to war by the emporer ( bad speeling) so they had no choice.

  • @TheNinjanordundor Funny I don't remember reading the part where they were forced to RAPE little girls. They might have been forced to fight against enemy SOLDIERS, but there is not justification for RAPING LITTLE GIRLS, OLD WOMEN, PREGNANT WOMEN, ect. ON A MASSIVE SCALE. Look up the Rape of Nanjing and Korean "comfort women" before you start giving excuses.

  • @Volf99 Anyway how did we get to this conversation. Anyway if you think that japan is bad for doing that, the US were bad too. There heavily bombed cities with people that had nothing to do with the war. From this, you say that anyone in war is bad.

  • @TheNinjanordundor I stop feeling sorry for people when THEY ARE THE AGGRESSOR!!! Now again before you dismiss the rape and trauma that many women went through, do yourself a favor and also look up Unit 571. They make the Nazi SS look like saints.

  • @Volf99 Because the sings that the russians or the americans did to the nazis made them look like saints. All sides of the war had bad things happening to them

  • @TheNinjanordundor Please tell me how events like the bombing of Dresden are the same as on operation on people when they are alive and awake? I'm not saying that the Allied forces are innocent, but you need to stop tying to give excuses for people raping innocent little girls and performing forced surgery on someone while they are awake and don't have any pain killers. The Japanese soldiers that raped and tortured people deserve to suffer. and die

  • @Volf99 how about when the US bombed Tokyo? What did the people do? Nothing! They had nothing to do with the war. WELL...........!?

  • @TheNinjanordundor they were part of an organization that RAPED AND MURDERED INNOCENT LITTLE GIRLS AND PREGNANT WOMEN

  • @Volf99 BUT THE USA KILLED PEOPLE THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO THE WAR!!!!!!!

  • @TheNinjanordundor So has every country that ever fought in a war.

  • @Jc40k1 What do you mean?

  • @TheNinjanordundor Can you name one country with no collateral damage in a war?

  • @TheNinjanordundor Plus the japanese killed thousands of filipinos and chinese.

  • @Jc40k1 The US killed many IJN and Nazis

  • @TheNinjanordundor My point is it was bad on both sides.

  • @Jc40k1 Yes. So the best thing to do is.... NO WAR!!(^o^)

  • @Volf99 lol too much american and chinese war propagando and u are talking about unit 571 and u know what happen to them right

  • Honor means to fight to the end. and not kill himself in front of the enemy

  • 240p... We meet again

  • And that's why you should never give in to peer pressure.

  • if the captain was like that, and the soldiers were Americans,I think they'd rather die fighting then suiciding..I mean if that was meh,i wud die fighting

  • It's sad that his friends were all gone with this scene

  • GREAT film, though this part is quite sad and creepy

  • For the Japanese your life may end at one point but your name and legacy lives on so they wouldn't wanna be known as a coward or be unhonorable when they die or during their life and these were based on the samurai but then some Japs were just nice and american-like and didn't really wanna fight and just wanted to live their lives which most of them probably wanted to do

  • this isn't an honorable death...

  • @JinNOSify It isnt? I know what your thinking but these guys are different than the american which i am assuming you are.. these guys are probably the most loyal to own country... i am not japanese , i am italian but remember these guys want go out like heroes and would rather die by own hand than by enemy .. it is the way it is and its something you'lll never understand

  • @Julian24151 it's something you'll never understand too since you're Italian

  • @JinNOSify Did i say i did?

  • @Julian24151 well do you?

  • My stepfather had bought a Pistol that was taken off a dead body of a World war 2 Japanese soldier. He said that for the next 10 years that he had it, it smelled of decomposing flesh. I often look at it and wonder , is war neccesary?

  • Man This Is Just Sad

  • are japanese grenades really that weak? also, they can arm it with teeth?

  • Saw this great movie last night, Eastwood should be proud. Honourable men who acquire some wisdom know never to be taken alive, and I guess this comes from antiquity... if you're captured and fall into the hands of sadists, it'd be hours before you'd be screaming ga-ga. I'll bet this cultural awareness fostered the development of what we see here.

  • There is nothing honorable about this, just one less soldier to fight

  • @quest8899 is either that or surrender to the Americans, and the Japanese do not believe in surrender. But you're right they could've just go die fighting rather than suicide.

  • Banzai!

  • well ! the very first grenade , everybody would mostly be dead 1... as for Bushido, code of honor and respect this culture,.. well !.. if they would have let their prisoners alive instead of torturing them and playing " shop shop" with their heads , Maybe ! ...

.. why dont you ask the wives and these soldiers children's what they think about it .

  • @ModYouriDevice an I think also because the general was a real person in history.

  • Does anybody know where I can get the jap subs?

I miss one part he said

  • lmao, if I was told to kill myself I'd say, "Fuck that, I'd rather just face the enemy and die fighting."

  • Stupid JAPS..

    LOL

  • @ZionTemplar lol a good point, but you're a misguided chap

  • With scenes in real life played out , the Japs commiting Mass suicide ended the war sooner. Also , dropping the Atom Bomb helped too.

& the Japs today are still suffering the affects of the radiation. LOL

  • Guy 1: You First...

    Guy 2: No You First

Guy 1: You think im some sort of dummy?!

  • BOOM HEADSHOT

  • movie club sent me here....

  • @ScatManZacMan same here

  • Isn't that a bit much?

  • surely it would be better from their point of view to die fighting americans and so actually help rather than commit suicide

  • Ok I admit Iraq was for oil but Afghanistan has no oil douche bag

  • No because we went into Afghanistan because of 9/11 to find Osama and remove the Taliban from power we did not start Afghanistan however the japs started the

Pacific war by attacking pearl harbour and invading us and uk held islands. Get your damn facts right

  • @LCBarnett95 you are naive if you really think the Afghanistan and Iraqi war was about anything other than setting up oil mills. again, are you saying that US and British soldiers deserve to die in the middle east because "America" started it?

  • I think this is the scene where the marines from Flags of our Fathers find the dead bodies?

  • Stupid japs serves em right tho they started it . This was a scene of the film I will never forget

  • @LCBarnett95 thats like saying all the british and american soldiers in afghanistan deserve to die. moron

  • Out of ammo?! Then why are you still holding grenades?

Grab those grenades and throw them at the US marines, idiots!

You should be attacking the enemy, not suiciding!

  • @jktb4444 dude its a war...

  • What was this form of suicide ritual called in terms of the Japanese?

  • @confess5 Hara-Kiri. Though... I may be wrong...

  • @confess5 Seppuku ("Stomach Cutting" in Japanese). They killed themselves to preserve their honor.

  • @confess5

    Seppuku

  • This was not honour at all, they had a perverted and misunderstood understanding of honour. Honour is to respect your enemy; treat and recognise them as fellow men. Thinking people scum just because they were captured alive is pathetic and nonsensical.
