  • why do these geniouses always have a dude in glasses accompaning them on guitar and making the song 300% better!

  • yall all are right back then they not only knew how to make things right but the music back then any one could listin to n not worry bout hearing cussing or sexual remarks it was good clean music with a story behind it

  • I saw him in Chicago weeks before the crash. I was not a fan at the time, friends talked me into the show. He was fantastic! So glad I went,

  • god a guy who could sing and not look like a freakin mannequin..now we get these manifactured children. I miss real singers. RIP Jim we miss you

  • I heard he wrote this song while at Ft. Jackson, SC. He saw the soldiers waiting in line to call home from basic training and this is what inspired him to write this song....That's what is heard

  • dude was incredible.

  • What a beautifully written and performed song. A perfect balance of sadness and sweetness. Jim Croce was an awesome songwriter, and Maury Muehleisen was an exceptional arranger. May they both rest in peace.

  • My dad had me listening to Croce since I was young, Im now 27 years old and continue listening to him all the time. Its a tragedy how he died. Rest in Peace.

  • nice and nice ,,,touch my heart

  • Early 70's , I remeber well

  • One of the legendary icons of 70's folk music....Going to my class in college riding in a jeepney, you can always hear his music in an 8 track cassette tape.. Treasured memories

  • Just pure class.

  • I have been listening to his music for over 35 years, I remember when he died, and I can only love his music all the more. He sang about love, he sang about life, and he sang to my heart. I miss him.

  • @Yukons95, I agree with what you said, totally. But, DON"T you ever dare say something like "Lay off the drugs" to me again. Have some respect. You don't know me. I simply misunderstood you. Jim Croce rocked!!!!!

  • fuck planes.

  • @crf50

that's right, and then He became legend.

  • anyone can make noise but this is genuine authentic music from the heart and rattles youre soul to make you feel what they are signing and i love every minute of it

  • We still miss you Jim. Even after all these years.

  • Whoever thumb-downed this song is going to hell

  • If they were around today someone would talk him into changing his hairstyle, wear more 'hip' clothes, maybe dance a little...etc. He would never make it in todays fake music industry.

  • Jim is BACK!!!

  • Croce was, and still is, one of my all time favorites.

  • been watching this video everyday.reminds me of the number that i used to call to talk with

  • I got to meet his wife Ingrid last night when I went to San Diego last night to visit my brother who was in town for a business meeting. She owns & operates a restaurant named after Jim on the corner of 5th Avenue & F Street there in downtown San Diego. She came by to visit my table when I told my waitress I'd like to say hello because I was a big fan of her husband's & Maury's music. She told me that Jim had planned on being in one of Cheech's & Chong's movies, That would have been so great.

  • Such beautiful guitar play as well.

  • To think they both died together

  • I love the smile he gives when he says "Ray". :) Such a painful song, but beautiful nonetheless.

  • I love the way these two play together, maury truly loves jim. Not in a gay way but in a way of pure caring, it's like without each other there is no completeness to their music, they truly are amazing musicians.

  • Thank you for posting this. I've heard many versions of this but this is by far the most intimate, and the quality is sensational. Great remastering of the video and audio. I'm glad so many mention Maury here as well as Jim. They were a team each one as important as the other. Before he starting writing hit songs Jim used to be Maury's side man. Losing them was tragic because I'm sure they had so much music left to write, sing, and play.

  • i just want to say FUCKYOU TO EVERYONE THAT DISLIKES THESE GOOD OLE SONGS IF YA DONT LIKE EM GET THE FUCKK OFF EM!!!!

  • give that little faggot beiber a acoustic and a open mic an see if he can sing an play like this???

  • @yukons95 I love Jim Croce. Justin Beiber can sing and play guitar too though. Don't know why you're comparing them

  • @BinAlaDiN read my reply to msdeb40! see if u even understand what i really meant???

  • @yukons95 Are you serious?? This is a classic and Jim Croce is now dead. In my book, we don't speak ill of the dead! This is beautiful, and if a 12 year old can recognize that, where does that leave you?? I'll tell you. Ignorant. R.I.P. Jim Croce, your music will live on forever!

  • @MsDeb40 I think he was trying to compliment Croce (which he should.) Go easy.

Oh-did you know Croce's wife and son got the rights back to his publishing only a few years ago?

  • @MsDeb40 Lay off the drugs and read it right! Not speaking ill of croce!!!!! What i meant is these fools nowadys think shit like beiber and lady gaga is music! This is music and those fool would never be able to pick up a guitar and just a mic and sing and play like croce! They need all their lights, effects, and so fourth!!

  • @yukons95 Dude... Just stop it with these comments. Stop trying to be the cool kid posting a comment on YouTube about how the artist is WAY better than those two artists you mentioned.

  • @yukons95 STOP MENTIONING THAT NAME. You're being a faggot by furthering the typical Bi-ber comment trend.

  • @timoswanson i am just making a point about how sloppy todays music is and how great it was back then dipshit! Thats what comments are for! if you don't like it just enjoy the music and mind your own fuckin business! And i m not a kid! was born in 67! do your research before you open your fuckin mouth!

  • @yukons95

Not possible, Justin doesn't even write his own music. Will others still be listening to his music 35 years later? NO WAY!

  • The remastered version of this video is amazing. great job. I really wish more musicians of my generation wrote thought provoking lyrics like those of yesteryear.

  • At 3:07 it almost looks like the lady in white is checking her cell phone.

Did she get a text from someone ?

    Time traveler busted !!!

Probably looking at a little mirror case.

But it does look weird seeing her do that.

We see it so much today with people always looking at their phones.

  • old saying in the music biz, you can tell how good a band is by how much stuff they bring to a show. if they show up with a mic, a acoustic guitar and a stool, then they're fucking awesome.

  • please check out the creepy fisherman. i love you jim croce.

  • What a Damn shame that they had to leave us so early ! Just think of the songs that they would have wrote between 1973 and now ! That really sucks !

  • im thinking this is what music sounds like if god picked up a guitar

  • @hoodus61 Wow!! what was a an awesome statement. It brought tears to my eyes.

Such moving music when there are no other instruments playing."As my guitar gently weeps"

  • damn, he was a fugly mofo!

  • @leonakita yeah imagine there was a time when MUSIC mattered not looking like a fkin bimbo or loser.....

  • Jim was no matinee idol, that's for sure. But he could SING and PERFORM in the most unique way. He was one of the best of his time, believe me- all over the radio and heading for the top. His image (and face, for that matter) was classic blue collar.

  • two of the best.. . two of the best you 8 who put dislikes.. unbeliveable..

  • I love jim hes way cool

  • Jim and Maury along with 4 other men perished on September 20, 1973 in natchitoches la at approximately 945 pm. They had just played a concert at prather hall on the campus of northwestern st university. Plans to go to Sherman tx. Upon take off the plane failed to gain enough altitude, snagged a pecan tree and crashed! All aboard were killed. Truly the day the music died in natchitoches

  • That was how it happened JB, right to the letter. WHY it happened remains a mystery. The pilot, who had a heart condition, was said to have run to the airport a mile or two because he was hired to fly Jim and the gang to Texas. The long sprint from his home to the airport may have strained his heart too much. So sad. And that pecan tree was the only tree in sight.

  • Maury i meant

  • Muary is one of the greatest guitar players ever im talking top 10 of all time

  • Jim will be young and beautiful forever!

  • With Maury and Jim up there with 2 acoustic guitars, it sounds like a full band, just two full hearts full of love for what they did.

  • people say that they can play music......

"but thats not the way it feels"

  • Yes, Jim and Maury...sadly missed. Great live performance.

  • thats not the way it feels.thats the way music used to be! best music ever- 70 and 80s!

  • 8 bad operators didn:t understand jim.....

  • Jim: You wished me well when I was on my way to the Navy back in 1973.

  • 日本人の私ですが、ジム・クロウチ、尊敬して聞いています。

    個性的で素晴らしいです。

  • Hard to believe it's been almost 40 years since his passing. I remember exactly where I was when I heard the bad news. (My "the day the music died" moment).

Hope you're resting in peace, Jim. Thanks for the music.

  • i love his music and im 12 years old.....

  • @PrayAngelicDemon hey i'm 15. represent

  • operator would you help me place this call..... beautiful music.that never leaves . Jim croce music willl live on..... hope never fails....

  • The great Jim Croce, a legend who died so young! Nice memories of 70´s! Congratulation Max this is a fantastic video!

  • WHAT A GREAT TALENTED MAN DOES ANYONE REMEMBER HOW HE PASSED AWAY & WHAT YEAR?

  • i don't know why lots of people doesn't know him and doesn't appreciate his song... hmmnnn

but i still love listening his song .listening for so many years

  • It sucks that Jim died so young with so much talent he was one of the best musicians of his time..

  • In my life time i may not hear music like this made in my time I,m 24

  • how many you tube viewers can remember when a phone call was only a dime.....guess im getting old...such is life.

i remember listening to Jim Croce on my older brothers turntable...classic music period!

  • What a great loss...

  • underrated legend of legends

  • Check out 1:01. Maurie is giving Jim the evil eye. Kinda strange he looks at Jim when,"...that's not the way it feels," is played.... then he does it again at 2:07. He must have been angry.

  • @menohablaingles No that's what incredible focus looks like. You're seeing a master at work.

  • 7 dislikes? Some people need a good swift smack

  • He was my idol when I was 16. I cried on that tragic day we lost a great, great man! R.I.P Jim!

  • You can keep the dime. I remember when pay phone calls were a dime. Oh so long ago. We miss you, Jim.

  • didnt this guy drift off into porn in the 80s ??

  • I don't know how some of the so-called singers in today's entertainment world have the nerve to perform in the same medium as this man. What a grand thing that YouTube has all these marvelous clips of Jim Croce's performances so that new generations get to hear his work.

  • been listening to this guy since i was ...16, 17 or so...still like the sound...'Bad, Bad Leroy Brown', and many others

  • FUCK RAY!!!

  • that two timing biotch!! You can keep the dime no one there I really wanted to talk to. Fuck her and Ray!

  • LMAO Coldpepper. Oh Lets' forget about this call.

There's no one there I really wanted to talk to.

  • @floridajeet....just went to your profile, seems you like using words like ...'negitive' and 'fool'. Too bad your so negitive and foolish. God Bless You.

  • @floridajeet... you need to read my words again and again and again. Clean up you mouth and stop calling your friends... fool's. God Bless.

  • Too bad he made Muary sit behind him instead of allowing him to be his friend and sit beside him. DON'T WALK IN FRONT OF ME, FOR I MAY NOT FOLLOW....... DON'T WALK BEHIND ME, I MAY NOT LEAD......JUST WALK BESIDE ME, AND BE MY FRIEND.

  • @l2string you have it all wrong my friend, Jim Loved Maury very much, and they died together... I was there in the shadows... don't fukijn talk about shit you dont know about fool!!!!

  • @l2string Might be something as simple as the director set up their seats that way for a camera shot. If you watch the video with that in mind, it all makes sense. Like when the Beatles played Sullivan - John's or Paul's mike was always pushed forward. In concert they were always equal, but for TV they wanted that nice shot of all 3 guitarists in a row...only way to do that is stagger the mics.

  • I love Jim, but I'm wondering if Nintendo maybe modeled Mario's look after Mr. Croce... Just a thought.

  • gives me goosebumps, some much memories

  • I try often to say the words that could express the talents of Jim and Maury but nothing needs to be said! One only has to listen and feel it.all the talent and musicians in the world and somehow these guys have grabbed a hold of me and will not let go! If Jim and Maury were here today there's no telling the accomplishments they would have! I'm hooked forever on the music Jim and Maury made together.no music today compares, wish I could go back in time!

  • @Jawbreaker424 There is only one word to express the talents of Jim and Maury. Simply AWESOME. For the time this was classic and today it still moves me the same way. Their music will live on forever.

    R.I.P. Jim and Maury

  • @Jawbreaker424 I agree, the feeling that they played with and the depth of their songs are unmatched in todays music. What a tragic loss to the world

  • Just a great version of a great song.

    RIP Jim.....

  • today people get on stage and the music is an afterthought. in the past, musicians played music, and the stage was an afterthought.

  • @newterritoryfilm All the bullshit flashy lights and dance moves. Right on man.

  • With other artists, I have to wonder if, when I listen to another song, if I am going to like it. With Jim Croce, I don't have that problem. If only I was born 30 years earlier.

  • i'll never exchange this music to justin bieber no way

  • RIP <3

  • jesus ,why all the goods are gone so young and so fast, i grew up to listen to jim

  • What a classic song and talented man. Sure wish I could have lived during this era of great music. A very tragic loss. Thanks to youtube for preserving such great music. Why on earth is he not in the Rock and roll hall of fame?!

  • These dreams

  • This is my favorite video of all time on you-tube. Sure, I like the rock n roll, because I've played guitar since 1956 (4th grade), but... this is coordinated talent, guitar playing, super great song, and JIm's voice... I only wish this video had zoomed in more on Maury's amazing fill-in guitar lead playing.

  • The days when music was music, not like the garbage today

  • @jecdown LMHO!!! That sounds like something parents said when we were listenting to music in the 60's and early 70's. Not this, though...they actually did think this was music. They were right and so are you. Croce was head and shoulders above many other artists back then that were able to enjoy the white hot spotlight. He and Maury paid their dues, even if they never had a long time to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

  • @willism1980 Lol, yup, Im 41 and have listened to metal music since I was 12. But have always had high respect for music of this era and Jim Croce's music is timeless and sounds just as good now as it did back then and always will. Just sad the two had to leave early..

  • @jecdown I myself am a metal head however this is the music my parents listen to in the 70s and I thought it was horrible! I was wrong these dreams by Jim croce is one of my favorite songs to date! All of his music is timeless! I wish we could have him and Kurt back!

  • @jamesdavidcalvin Lol, I remember my first album I ever bought was AC/DC's Highyway To Hell. I remember my parents used to listen to Jim Croce and would always tell me to listen to real music. I always laughed at them. Who new I would be listening to this unforgetable classic music today.

  • Buddy Holly died the same way, so did Ritchie Valens, it is a shame that such great talent went away at such a young age...

  • How can I explain to my 6 years old daughter what was an operator. ...

    Great song, Thank you, Jim!

  • @nicktakk wow that never crossed my mind. I can't remember the last time I talked to an operator. Phone calls are so cheap today that I would never reverse the charges or make a person to person call.

  • Its a shame that at 30 he was just getting started when tragedy hit. And unlike some other musicians who've died overdosing on drugs, he passed in a plane crash that was ultimately blamed on pilot error. I am, however, thankful for the inspirational music that he did create and left behind.

  • wonderful song at class act. I am going to sing this song at my next gig and record it. think it will fly for i look allot like him. so why not keep his songs alive

  • brilliant fukk the naysayers, this man croce was simply amazing

  • The tiny, grand gesture amid heartbreak: "You can keep the dime." Ya gotta be a dead Nazi not to have this as a go-to song. "But that's not the way it FEELS."

  • The king

  • as soon as the song ends you can tell it still works him up. touching to see something that legit and heartfelt.

  • GREAT JOB REMASTERING IT. THIS SONG TAKES ME BACK WAAAAAAAY BACK .

  • Music back then was an art form. Bringing folk songs to the masses. Unlike today's artists: the more bizarre you look, the more trash you talk and of course making a living by acting like idiots is what sells. I miss the simpler days. These were the true musicians.

  • @titanium9000 I totally agree, and I'm only 19! I'm actually a musician myself, and am hoping to one day do my part to help change that! My music is about MUSIC and emotion, nothing stupid, rude, or flashy. Hopefully soon I can get it copywritten and recorded so I can put it out there!

  • @Medic131313 Follow your dream young man. I wish you all the success in the world.

  • @nerblebun Thank you so much!

  • @titanium9000 ... Also, Jim Croce is one of many of my inspirations/influences!

  • @Medic131313 I wish you a great future. We need more like you out there..!

  • I just keep playing this over and over. Takes me back to a quieter time and makes me feel good. Thanks for posting! PS The Mustache is Awesome!

  • Superb just Suberb remastered wonderfully

  • This was Croce's best song, IMHO.

  • amazing talent.....the music world lost a giant way too soon.

  • Cant believe this is live. Sounds better then the studio version!

  • Excellent job of remastering... well done.

  • Gosh, such a LONG-Time since I've Heard/ saw Jim Croce. Still, Love it.

  • Beautiful song-no doubt!

  • I am 50 (almost), I remember Jim Croce vividly, listening to this now brought a tear to my eyes. It reminded me of all those who are no longer with me. Parents, Grand-Parents, friends, and other family members. Then a smile came over my face thinking about all of those who are no longer with me.

  • Here ladies and gentlemen, is some of the purest, and greatest music ever written, by none other than Jim Croce. One of the greatest song writers, and musicians of all time. His songs were so meaningful, and the substance was incredible. I am only 21, but I envy those who were my age during this era, when Taylor, Croce, Young and many more fantastic artists were in their prime.

Forever live the music of this era...R.I.P. Jim, you went to soon...

  • @MCash7709 Well said...very well said

  • @MCash7709 MCash, I was lucky to live my youth (I was 16 those years) even thouhg I don`t know I'm sure you are a very sensitive and intelligent person. Congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful song, but even a better video, he was beautiful.

  • Jim Croce was beyond musical talent, if you all knew how the record companies treated him and then his widow and children you'd be appalled. Long live Jim's music, screw the ones who made millions off him and left his widow and children paupers.

  • I came for the mustache, stayed for the song.

  • @Coldpepper :D Gotta Quote YOU! :D

  • My 2nd oldest sister got me listening to him.It has been years since I listened to his music.

  • Love that gorgeous smile !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why are all the great ones taken from us ????

  • Was this the final concert? :(

  • this man became an inspiration for me to play. and write songs!..

    Rip. Jim croce!

  • Is it just me or is there too much treble and not enough bass in this remaster? Maybe I need to recalibrate my speakers lol.

  • Awesome!!

  • they just dont make music like this anymore.

this is real music with a message...love it

  • But isn't that the way they say it goes? Well, let's forget all that And give me the number if you can find it So I can call just to tell them I'm fine and to show

I've overcome the blow, I've learned to take it well I only wish my words could just convince myself That it just wasn't real but that's not the way it feels.

  • one of my very favorite songs

  • 4 people were at this live performance and kicked out for enjoying it too much.

  • I just can't imagine why anyone would dislike this song

  • Jim Croce's music is timeless; his talent is self evident. The beauty of his words, melodies and heartfelt emotions has added greatly to all of our lives. In my mind, he is underappreciated now. It is unfortunate but thanfully, YouTube helps the young ones see what they missed. We were lucky to have him alive and making music for us.

  • @nylawyer55 I agree! im one of those kids who missed out on that time in history but that doesnt stop me from enjoying all the classic music i can get my hands on

  • Comment removed

  • Thank You Mr. Croce, thank you.

  • Impressive remaster!! Can't believe this is really a 70's video!

  • This is awesome, thanks for posting!

What a pairing those two where!

I wish i'd have experienced it the first time round...

  • maury is great too his second voice and the melody that make great music like loggins and messina they dont make music like that anymore

  • Jim Croce was the best of us - may he live forever in our hearts and souls.

  • Music at it's best! Needed more but death was the only thing that could have stopped their rise to the top! Doesn't get any better than Croce and muehleisen. Their music is purely genuine and solid gold!!

  • he's gotta be close to the best if not the best.

  • Simplicity at its best, and they still look cool playing those Martin guitars. . . .

  • Jim and Maury playing and singing together--such magic! So wonderful to have this captured, thanks so much for sharing.

  • el maestro jim con su primera gran obra conocida aca en mexico, que gran manejo de las guitarras acusticas

  • We love you Jim..
