It's not the mixing either! This is a bootleg copy from some guy sitting too close to the percussion section, and so when it kicks in it blows out his microphone and drowns everything else out.
Personally, rock band is not the way to go with the kefka fight music. It was composed as something that's tightly controlled (mostly because it was composed with16-bit limitations in mind). I would have had the strings take the lead at the beginning, woodwinds tossing stuff here and there, but the organ carrying the melody (just like it does in the game). And MUCH less emphasis on the drums. At least they got the chime intro to the organ solo right this time...
This performance is a bit of a disgrace to this masterful composition. Seriously, it just sounds like a mess. It's about time a decent orchestral version be released on cd!!
They're supposed to play Dancing Mad at the Distant Worlds Chicago show in Dec 2009. I'm hoping somebody can get a good recording of it, or seriously, please, I wish they'd just release this song on a CD or MP3 already!
This song is good, the organ parts are 100% better than the Sydney recording... the rock band part of it ruined it though. That drummer needs to stand in front of Kefka's Light of Judgement, seriously. XD
There is a version of this exact performance that was recorded with a Creative Zen MP3 player and the drums and stuff sound much better (you can actually hear the notes and the beat.) As I listened, I found that Machinae Supremacy plays the organ part with their guitars! Major kudos!!!! :D Overall, i loved this, even if the quality isn't the best. :P Can't wait til they release it on perhaps a cd or something....if they ever. I'd buy the cd/dvd specifically for this song. :P
So the quality of the sound isnt perfect, but I´m still glad you uploaded this song on youtube and megaupload! Thanks a lot, and ignore the people who complain too much about the soundquality!
Well, the recorded sound quality of this is very poor, to be sure. I get the feeling it'd actually sound quite good live, or given an official recording.
I think you recorded it with a cell phone, making it very difficult to determine how good or bad this version actually is. The lead guitar sounds like it's being played a mile away most of the time due to the frequency.
I ADORE this song, and so I was looking for an orchestraded version of it. But I didn't like this at all. Is it just me? Doesn't it deform the song? The rythm and even some notes are off!
Original and rock version are way better in my opinion.
this was the best song to sing! (from 4.00min). Så najs med trummorna, och hela beatet.. Jag har aldrig spelat spelet men detvar verkligen grymt att sjunga denna final låt!
It gives me so much joy to see the tragically underrated "Dancing Mad" get an orchestral treatment. Sound quality aside, the arrangement is amazing. Incorporating the motive from the very beginning into the conclusion of the piece was just brilliant.
The only problem seems to be that sudden speed change with the fourth movement. It doesn't sound like the fault of the arrangement so much as it sounds like the orchestra just fumbled a bit.
I think four out of the five movements were executed really, really well. However, their rock take on #4 SUCKED (at least from what this recording represents). I think they could just as easily use brass for movement four (Euphonium on the lead-in to #4, and trumpet on the main melody :X).

The last thing I want to hear from such an awesome song is more synthesizer bullshit. The Black Mages version blows. If I wanted to hear a synthesizer play Dancing Mad, I'd turn on the game and listen to that.
this was not how it sounded in stockholm live. I sang in the choir and this was the best song in the hole consert.... but the drum solo and the choir-song really suck in this bad recording.
Wow. That sounded like a complete mess. Not that I'm blaming you, knowing Square as of late it's entirely possible that it was that much of a mess on-stage. I'll stick to the midi.
I think it could have been executed quite alot better, thought so when I was there aswell. Didnt really fit as an ending to a great concert if u ask me. Missed "one winged angel"...
Why? there already are rock versions of that song. The closest thing to a rock version of Dancing Mad is the version done by The Black Mages, which doesn't cut it.
Is "One-Winged Angel" great and powerful? You bet. Do I want to hear in whenever I attend game music concerts? Absolutely. Is it the Alpha and the Omega? NO. There are other worthy pieces of music out there that are equally deserving of the grand treatment (orchestral & choral rendition). "Dancing Mad" was LONG overdue for just such a realization and needed to be hauled out from under the looming shadow of the overplayed OWA.
The point being?

Oh, ouch! I usually like Play! , but that rendition was dirty and didn't do the piece justice at all.

Dancing Mad has got to be some of the best music in any video game ever created. It's easily the best in the final fantasy series by far.
For to this song to get a orchestrated treatment is a blessing.
And might I add, the third part of dancing mad is my favorite part. It's extremely beautiful!
