BMW Subwoofer Install: BSW ib108, 3 Series, M3 E36 - X of X

Will the ib108 fit a coupe. The stock HK is killin me? I know they've got the 110 but... Ebay has a listing for the 108

@kdevry Sorry but the ib108 is only for the Convertibles. The D110 is the option for your car.

do you find that the bmws trunk is really sealed off from the cabin, in my system the rear deck is blocking my bass

@jwise36 Yes, common problem. The ib108 resolves this in the cabrios as it fires directly into the cabin. Even with an 8" woofer the bass is very clean and "present" as compared to a larger system with Bass trapped in the trunk. Not to mention the total loss of already meager trunk space.

I have a stock HU that works with my CD changer in the trunk.

I want to keep my stock HU to be able to use my CD changer.

considering there is no RCA in the back of this HU, how did you get the sound?

speaker level input?

if yes, where did you wired plugged and put your speaker-to-RCA converter?

The weak point is that C33 (I believe) head unit. It's the weakest link in this setup (if all speakers and sub are BSW's in this car). Try a CD43 and be surprised how much better everything sounds.

I retrofitted the H/K soundsystem to my E36 vert, which most people find "okay(-ish)", but BMW never offered the system with the CD43. The CD43 has much more output and gets everything out of the system. Yes it's still a factory headunit, but for an OEM fetishist like myself..the only allowed option.

@TMAP89 No TMAP89! Turning bass and treble up increases distortion exponentially and sounds terrible while creating a situation where you may blow components! We advise never doing this!

i have also replaced all the speakers in my car but the stock cd43 doesnt provide much power.i dont have the harman kardon system.

do i have an oem amp fitted in the car if i dont have the H/K fitted?

will fitting an amplifier to run the uprated speakers with stock radio make much difference in quality and volume?cheers,alex

@alexlex85 Hi Alex, depending on where you are located, in the US there is an external amp for the HK and the non-HK. We will have a plug-n-play amp upgrade available in the coming year which will improve clarity and some volume increase. However, MOST people actually don't need more treble and mid volume, just more bass for "ooomph". The ib108 in the video solves this problem in a clean and efficient manner!

nice car/sound system, i would suggest putting the ballance to the rear atleast + 2 ans it sounds unreal with a little more base comeing from the rear.

Very audiophile-like. decent, clean, simple and equalized. This is more of a sophisticated sounding system than a over the top steve meade type slammin jammin system. It's better than stocc so i cant argue with ya, keep up the good work.

People have different tastes though, steve meade could just flick the switch off and have little bass yet and still sustain a high decibel beat to his 'ride'. but i understand about sound quality.

I hear the bass just fine, and it sounds fairly well balanced with the rest of the system. If you just want a car that can put out loud bass, go build a system with like four 18's. Most people put subs in to listen to MUSIC, not noise.
