  • I love the 1935-1937 Lady Day recordings! They have such a fresh and unselfconscious feeling to them. You really feel that Lady had not yet crystallized as an artist, and was just engaging in the pure creative spontaneity that was just an extension of her individuality. From 1938 on, especially after the recording of "Strange Fruit", I feel that Lady really "knows" herself and how she does things. Thanks for the great posts!
