@Vriesswouzer That might not fix the problem though, I had a pokemon red and blue once, but with one of them, I don't remember which I'm afraid, but I accidentally caught the Missingno with a master ball instead of fleeing from it at the time I paid no true attention at first as it had water gun and 2 sky attacks as well as fly I think. Well anyway after a captured and evolved it into a Kangaskhan, the game stopped holding the save data for long periods of time even short periods.

Just tested this on Blue (Gameboy Color no emulator) and it worked. I used the technique with "teleport" (Abra). Contrary to popular belief, you CAN catch Mew with a pokeball, and without putting him to sleep or applying any other status. Just get him to low enough health.

If you want to do this early, (I did it before even beating the second gym), this tutorial will help you. watch?v=JkF7Xjxn9jc By the way, you don't need the Jigglypuff or Wigglytuff, it just makes getting Abra easier.

Mew is a bit of a glitchin and of itself. It was added at the absolute last moment since there was just enough space on the cartridge for another Pokemon. Apparently, no one at Nintendo and only a select few at Gamefreak knew about it, something that would -never- happen in a newer game.

Although, Mew made Pokemon all the more mysterious and fun, didn't it?

@crayolian People who study and understand the game mechanics. It's not random. There are reasons for every part of this glitch. It's got to do with the status values of pokemon involved, etc. Basically tricking the game memory to confuse / mess up values. You can make other pokemon appear similarly by changing some of the factors involved in the glitch, too. Just google "mew glitch" for more information.

@crayolian It's a coding error. Extreme geeks figure this out easily based on the slowpokes values and the memory that there was a battle suposed to take place in the area that gambler was.

There's a simpler way to do this. First you need to catch an Abra. Then, go above the trainer in the grass to the left of the bridge. Walk down and press start before the ! appears above his head and teleport. Make sure you go to Cerulean. Then, battle the Slowpoke kid and teleport back to Cerulean. Walk back up Nugget Bridge and it should be right there.

it doesn't matter what trainer you stand in front of an fly away just so long as it's someone you haven't fought!

before the ! pops up over their head you then press start and fly away to celadon city. Battle the trainer with the slowpokes and then fly back to the city you left to go to the trainer you hadn't battled. as you leave the town the start menu will pop up.

press B and it will go through.

why does everyone always take the super long way to do this glitch?

all you need is an abra so you can teleport to the pokemon center. the trainer hiding in the grass to the left of the bridge in cerulean, walk up to where you would batte him, but press start before it can begin, then teleport to the pokemon center. if you did it right, then i'm pretty sure you can't open the start menu. and then i can't remember the rest of the glitch, but you gotta do something with those trainers too.
