i feel like this would be a much better movie without the Tony/Maria romance. I know it's based off of Romeo and Juliet, and the whole point of it is the love story, but I hated that play. The gang stuff is so much more interesting!

this movie always seemed more Tristan and Isolde to me: ethnicities fighting, the rumple/tournament, the lead man being killed (Tony/Tristan; not killing themselves), going to a battle when he didn't have to, even if he WAS needed....i know that it's based off of Romeo and Juliet, but THAT was based off of Tristan and Isolde, so techanally, so was WSS.....cool beans! =D

@MsTremaineNeverson85 Yeah, Tony and Maria are so cheesy. Even Richard Beymer said that he didn't like the way his character was written and directed. Apparently he thought he came over as the biggest fruit on Earth. The movie doesn't work in one sense because a subplot is turned into the main story. Their relationship just doesn't have enough substance to carry the movie.

At least Anita and Bernardo are ballsy. Their relationship seems so much more realistic.
