He told you how he felt about you riding your bike in the middle of a busy street most likely during rush hour or at some other time where a business man of his stature does not have time to go 10mph on a 35. Be a considerate biker.
Somebody, anybody, please tell us what to do when police refuse to accept a complaint that is clearly warranted by the evidence. Do we really have to get an attorney to send a letter? What's the most efficient means of redress?
@eoinocarroll damn that guy was about 150lbs to big to ask to fight. i mean he would kill someone under 200lbs what a bully to bad you didnt have a gun and say fight this dick head. pop pop pop lol.
I canot believe he got out of his car. I had a car honk at me because I needed to cross traffic and they wanted to turn right. I was in front of them. They just wanted me to get out of their way and yelled at me after honking ;-) LOL
Just stay away from angry people. That dude doesn't care about you or himself. He's angry and you aren't going to get through to him by trying to teach anything. Keep riding, less talking, less cameras, just keep riding.
Dlon't we have some sort of a rah-rah pro-bike Mayor in Boston? Make sure HE sees the video. This (or fear of this) is a fine example of the kind of crap that keeps more people from riding bikes in Boston.
This is outrageous. We need a booklet of the cycling laws small enough to fit in jersey pocket that can be distributed to ignorant jerks like this fool.
The cops are investigating it's actually on the news. But cops won't even bother to pull over someone who is speeding in Boston let alone something like this. They sit in their cars eating donuts and pick on teens who look suspicious to them.
This is everyday life in Boston. People on the go...people with road rage. A lot of bicyclist are being hit even within the bicycle lane. Both people were wrong. The guy in the car shouldn't of stopped his car and the man on the bike could have easily kept going instead of stooping down to his level. Oh by the way I'm related to the one in the car lol. It's sad but people stop to have words in the middle of the street in Boston all the time over the smallest thing.
@PecanMoments I think you are wrong about the bicyclist. The car ran within 6 inches of the bike, and then stopped the car and blocked the roadway. The guy in the car was actually threatening the person on the bike unprovoked. I think the guy in the car wanted to fight. Although he was not in very good shape for a fight...
Your not the only one, majority of bike riders in Arizona do, plus most of Maricopa county is nice enough and makes actual lanes for bike riders, even on the main roads since quite a few people ride. As a bike rider your supposed to obey traffic laws just as you would in a car.
@bebek1993 because in most cities its not legal to ride your bike on the sidewalk, they consider them a type of vehicle hence why you can still get tickets even riding a bike.
@PandaNDuskie Well, in my country, the bicycle is considered as a bicycle too, but as far as I know, it's also allowed to ride on the sidewalk. I've been riding on sidewalks for about 4-5 years and I never had a problem with the police. Here it's regular to ride on the road, but only at least 1 meter far away from the sidewalk... So we don't interrupt the car drivers. By me, riding on the sidewalk is far more safer, because the car drivers are often drunk while driving. They think it's cool...
@reyuhi Good advice for the driver; I've known at least one cyclist who carried a gun. Another who carried an aluminum rod in place of a bike pump. Quite a few carry mace for dogs.
Um, you guys need to rewatch that video. Yes the driver was a dick, but look how the cyclist handled it. The guy honks his horn, so what does the cyclist do, honk back, yell at the guy, then ride right up to the driver side door. Why? Because he had video courage. In reality, he should have just kept on riding, give the guy the finger or something. But he got confrontational and he's lucky he didn't get his ass kicked. Now, if he had not been confrontational, that's different.
He doesn't like a bike slowing him down, so his big solution is to stop his car and completely block the lane. This guy is about as stupid and self-centered as they come.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm sorry the dude was a jerk - that looked scary, but I personally don't think cyclists should be allowed to share the same lanes as cars. If there's a bike lane, great. But if there's no bike lane, get on the sidewalk.
@filly07 Riding on the sidewalk is dangerous and, in many places, illegal. If it has wheels and goes faster than normal walking speed, it belongs on the road.
Wow, nothing says hypocrite like getting mad at a cyclist for riding on the road then stopping in the middle of said road with traffic to complain at him for it. I don't ride a bike much, but I know that you are supposed to treat cyclists like a car and that they are supposed to follow the same road rules that cars do.
Good for you. I almost got side-swiped by an asshole in an SUV going to a meetup with some friends. I want to say he was within 2-3 inches of hitting me, it felt that close, and I was just getting ready to go from a red light, too! Almost made me lose my balance.
I decided to just start taking up the entire lane when I'm riding on the road now like you have.
If everyone ran to the police station everytime some other driver cut them off or pissed them off in some way, the police would get nothing done. sorry, but you gotta just get over it.
Why I live in Texas. Doesn't matter if the guy is 7 ft tall. He tosses a punch at me I will pull out the equalizer. At that guys size - a punch = attempt at my life

All you pretentious bicyclists need to hug the right side of the road, besides traffic's sake, but for your own safety. The video clearly shows the biker is riding in the middle of Mass Ave.
@backlashLFE You're incorrect. Cars have to slow down and wait behind slow moving vehicles and pass when there is room. The slow moving vehicle never has a legal obligation to "get out of the way".
@stingyzx My comment didn't question the legality of riding in the road. I'm well aware that bicyclists are allowed to ride in whichever lane they want, so as long as it's not a highway. The fact is... bicyclists are on a 2 wheeled vehicle that can't travel at the same pace as a motorized vehicle. Do you really want to test what happens when a 3000lb car with a distracted driver rams you from behind? I'm a motorcycle rider and it's something that's always running through my head.

@backlashLFE lol, there is no law or anything that says you have to hug the right side, it's just your thinking, every cyclist that isn't some bmxer or casual rider knows that it's much safer in the middle, where the cars have to slow down and over take like a normal vehicle.
@tdragon360 You think that in today's world with cell phones and lattes drawing a driver's attention away from the road, makes it safer to risk your life because you have a law saying you have your "rights." Besides that scenario, do you even drive a car to understand where I'm coming from? Not everybody can afford to live in the city to bike. People have 2 hour commutes for work, and to come across a bicyclist holding up traffic for going 10-15mph in the city is totally uncool.
@backlashLFE Because someone has any length commute does not give them any rights to try to fight a bikers in the middle of the road. You are trying to justify this with that lame argument. Please. I mean have you driven in Boston. The average speed is pretty much 10-15 mph in fairly heavy traffic. So really how should the driver react to general grid lock. Should he drive over other cars. Get out and try to block traffic and yell fighting words? LOL
Alexgotnicebody, you are a fucking idiot; the rider wasn't in the middle of the street until he came up behind the car that almost hit him. There's NO requirement for any rider to hug the curb on the street.
Pull your head out of your ass and learn something.

The driver was clearly in the wrong, it wouldnt have hurt them to just wait 2 seconds and then use the other lane. I hope you get some action on this!

@cyclingintraffic That's exactly right. It's an airhorn that I fill up with my bike pump. It's called the Delta Cycle Airzound Horn, and you can order it on Amazon. It's really, really loud.
@eoinocarroll Oh yes, I was looking at those yesterday. Massbike tell me they're ok to use, so likely be getting one soon. Sirens and Whistles a no no apparently.
I would like to second your comment, "I can thoroughly recommend getting a helmet cam, they're worth weight in gold". I swear my helmet cam has helped me through a lot of situations.
I have noticed a very big increased number of people on bicycles using helmet cams. I want to try to accomplish one of my dreams of having all these people get together to have drinks and share stories about what we caught with our helmet cams.
I don't know how, but somehow people need to realize that cars are freakin' dangerous and their time is not worth my life. This kind of thing makes me want to get a concealed carry license.
PS - I stop at red lights too. Maybe we don't see other cyclists because they're stopped one light ahead or behind instead of flying past us like the reckless cyclist idiots.
You have my sympathies. I have had similar encounters. I think you handled this better than I likely would have. I love the helmet camera. I will have to look into getting one of those.
You have my sympathies.. Just saw this on UniversalHub. I've got plenty of video footage of similarly bad driving. I'm sure some of these people don't realize they actually need a license to operate a vehicle. Their driving suggests they can't possibly have passed the drivers test. I thought you handled him well.
How many thousands of times, everyday - does this sort of thing happen... as noted below - nicely handled. Obviously the Police Dept. doesn't care until you're / we're maimed or killed - and then only minimally so.
