Your not the only one, majority of bike riders in Arizona do, plus most of Maricopa county is nice enough and makes actual lanes for bike riders, even on the main roads since quite a few people ride. As a bike rider your supposed to obey traffic laws just as you would in a car.

I've been riding on sidewalks for about 4-5 years and I never had a problem with the police. Here it's regular to ride on the road, but only at least 1 meter far away from the sidewalk... So we don't interrupt the car drivers. By me, riding on the sidewalk is far more safer, because the car drivers are often drunk while driving. They think it's cool...
