You kind of muddle the Ming/Qing transition and make it sound like the Qing were fighting peasant resistance for decades. In fact while the Ming Emperor Chongzhen hung himself, southern China remained in the hands of the Ming aristocracy (who of course put a new line of pretenders on the thrown). During Mongol Yuen dynasty, the Juchens, Kitans, Bohais were classified into 3rd class of Han because they were all sinified like Han Chinese.

The Qing Dynasty was born from conquered the Chinese Empire’s Ming Dynasty in 1644. However, in terms of culture, tradition, customs and science, the Manchu had much to learn from the highly developed Chinese.

@codeagent47 Unfortunately, like many other non-ethnic Chinese peoples, the Manchus themselves are unable to avoid sinification. They were able to maintain their cultural distinction for at least 40 years after entering China but its was during the reign of Emperor Kangxi(1661-1722) where the process of sinification finally took place. Modern Manchus speak Mandarin Chinese and have Chinese names. Very few Manchus could speak their native language and even have their original names.

In fact while the Ming Emperor Chongzhen hung himself, southern China remained in the hands of the Ming aristocracy (who of course put a new line of pretenders on the thrown). Jurchen were Altaic language speaking people. I mean they had totally different origin with Chinese. Moreover, history books consistently say that the name of the Jurchens dynasty was derived from the royal surname of Korean Silla dynasty.
So I prefer to call it "Kim dynasty" rather than call it in Chinese.

the earlier emperors of qing are good but the later ones are not able to do any much effect. qianlong is strong in the beginning and middle reign but in his latter life he accelerate the decline of qing. he fail to build a global empire using his resources. after napoleon wars, britan become the strongest empire in the world and no nation can solely defeat its royal navy. To be able to build a global empire, you will need a supreme navy. china is big but the world is even bigger.

2 The map at 1:40 is incorrect. Mongols invaded Korea for 40 years but failed to conquer Korea at last.
3 The picture at 1:36 is related to a Korean historic event (1st Kori-Khitan War), not Manchus. Khitan's 800,000 warriors invaded Korea but the invasion failed, on the other hand Korean gained some territory at this parley.

If Vietnam allowed the Chinese to live as slaves, why did the Vietnamese sent tribute to the Chinese Emperors and before using roman alphabets Vietnamese was using the Chinese Characters. @BAIYUE1 No,mostly the other way round.Historians noted that the south native populations which got mixed into han chinese was even larger than those from the north throughout the history,because those from the south were extremely insecure about their original roots and completely wiped off their roots and fabricated it to han chinese in their clan books,while some northern ethnic groups which changed identities to han were relatively easier to tell due to surnames and family records so on.

Han Chinese is made up of hundreds of ethnicities. They were assimilated into Chinese culture and united and form modern-day Han Chinese.

Where did you get your information from? Han is a race, so is mongolian, manchu, and also Tibetan. If the han really did assimilate other races why would there still be 54 ethnic groups still present in china today. The popultion of china today is 1300 million million people. 1200 million are han and the other 100 million or so are the 54 ethnic groups.

Ethnically, no Chinese dynasty is the same as the one before. What exactly is Han? Liu bang, the founder of the Han dynasty, was himself Chu and a former Chu soldier. Does that make him Han, or Chu?

@icouldcareless50 the qing dynasty was created when the manchus invaded china which caused more deaths than the japs did in wwII. The manchurians were the ones who forcefully assimilated the han, mongols, tibetans, hui, and many other asian ethnicities. after their dynasty collapsed, han chinese just picked up the pieces of a ruined backwards nation. Even today on chinese new years u still see han chinese wearing manchu clothing. nobody wears han clothing. han culture has been destroyed as well.

@icouldcareless50 also "han" culture doesn't exist. Thats term is as general as "european" culture. Saying "han language" is like saying "european language". Shanghainese and mandarin are both spoken by han chinese but the two LANGUAGES have more differences than german and french. The chinese government calls them dialects to promote unity. Right now other HAN as well as ethnic minority languages are all being replaced by Beijing mandarin. I'm shanghainese and i'm so fuckin pissed about this.

That's why they call it Han Chinese instead of Chinese. Manchu emperors themselves claimed to be the Emperors of China.
You don't need to be Han Chinese to be Chinese. Chinese is an abstract term for culture, language, and philosophy. It's like being Jewish. You could be racially anything and "convert."
