Thank you, CCW! Finally, someone out there who realises just how much Johns is screwing up Green Lantern. We now have about 8 different corps or multi coloured lanterns.....it's just ridiculous folks. What is this, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers?
I'm a HUGE Superman fan, I have been since I was 5 years old back in 1979, and I still like all the stories, Hell the Superman line of books is about the only thing I still pick up from DC every month regularly. I do pick up others from time to time too.
You guys are way too harsh. I liked Secret Origin a lot since it was a very character driven story fleshing out Sinestro and Carol, plus the last origin sucked. But I understand that new comers may be confused by this issue since ti was not meant to be a jumping on point, you may ahve to go back to the start of this arc. Also, Im looking forward to Superman Secret Origin, im hoping it builds in elements for the future comics
I agree though, Judd Winnick bringing back Jason was awesome
Comics books feel so impenetrable already to the new reader, and now we get books that even hardcore readers have trouble grasping. Just what is the business strategy of the comic book companies?
While I can't disagree on the flopping of the secret origin (compress it and tell it as a backstory through a number of issues of GL), I like the variables here. It's a logical evolution. IF there is fear, why are there no other champions of a certain mindset.
The Hal thing I can understand because in a Morrison-metaphysical way is Hal being such a developed character emotionally. He is viable for a number of rings.
And I'm shocked at the backlash we've gotten at what I consider to be some of the tamest 'negative' reviews we've ever given. I mean, all I said was that I was confused and thought that all the lantern colors was ridiculous. Did Jose and I call the books 'pieces of s**t' like we've done to some of the Marvel books? Nope.
But hey, you folks are always welcome to disagree with us. I respect that more than you think.
Agreed, I hope Elliot and Jose keep on reviewing in the same uncompromising manner.
This is the best comics review blog there is precisely because they stimulate debate amongst fans thats usually pretty intelligent rather than the kissass shit that some other youtube blogs do.
As for whats worth reading at DC, GL, GLC, Superman stuff, the Outsiders, The Mighty, R.E.B.E.L.S
Also, from your tones it seems you guys are turned off by large chunks of continuity. Like Jose's complaint is that it's too huge, winding/linked etc. From what you two say, you guys just want things to be one shots or easily stuffed into 3 issue max minies to get the full story.
hmmm I like the continuity of GL but then I've only been subjected to 4 issues so far not several years of story.
I like to have 1 shots every so often and definitely not to have a book have a "written for trade" mentality. I think they should take the "1 of 4", "3 of 6" things off the books and solicits so you don't know when the storyline is gonna finish and it keeps you on the edge.
theres no need for that kind of language just because you disagree with the lads. I disagree with them on this segment too but I would not say something like that a: because they certainly are not assholes and b: its okay to disagree on things without getting nasty about it.
Thanks locus. I have no problem with folks disagreeing with us. In fact, I welcome it. But there's no need to get into name calling, especially using racial epithets that do nothing except sow discord and hatred. And no, I'm not talking about the 'asshole' comment - I AM an asshole and I know it. I'm talking about another comment that was made that we deleted because we found it incredibly offensive. And for two guys who are hard to offend, THAT'S saying something.
LOL. Ok, just an FYI SCUM, if you go back and view some of our earlier videos, you will notice that we spend a lot of time bashing Marvel and hailing DC, and we also get the same accusation from Marvel fans who claim we just hate Marvel and love DC.
I have to say that I really surprised a the amount of backlash we've gotten from this posting as we were pretty tame in our criticism as opposed to some of the stuff we've said about some other books.
And while I welcome your opinion, I do ask that you show a modicum of respect. Consider these videos as your invitation to talk with us in our comic shop. Don't say anything here that you wouldn't say to our faces. I will also give you that same respect, and while we may disagree on things, I won't disrespect you in front of everyone else.
I don't believe I said that GL was terrible. I just don't like how the story is progressing mason. Same goes for Supes.
As for loving us only Marvel...I'm sure everybody else who has been watching these videos will tell you that is almost the exact opposite of how we feel scummy.
DC comics is the shit under my shoe when talking about comics...Their TV series is cool, but their books are SO BAD!!!...and Superman was cool back in the 50's, not in these modern times!!!
Seriously here? WHen's the last time you even LOOKEd at a DC comic? You want modern, try secret 6. You want modern? Try the outsiders? You want young modern, read any of the fuckinging titans books, E's thoughts on Winnick be damned.
I picked up from where Tomasi recently started on Outsiders and I thought it was a great jumping on point and I knew hardly anything about the book before.
Gotta disagree about Winnick though, I think he's a horrible writer.
I can recommend the first 2 issues of The Mighty though...another Tomasi book, it looks like he's on a bit of a roll as GLC is good too.
Winnick's just not my cup of tea, agmaster. I know he has a lot of fans, as do Bendis and Loeb, so am I wrong for not liking him? Is it ok that we just critique Marvel creators and not DC?
My opinions on Winnick are just that, opinions, and hold no more validity and weight than yours do.
The Shins!!! I agree with you guys that lately the pacing of GL has been a little muddled and it is definitely NOT new reader friendly by any means, but as Johnnyhorror said... fuck em! For me, the GL titles have been the saving grace for DC this past year, I did enjoy Batman RIP but not until I read it a second time. Blackest night is going to be epic and will bring about the demise of many of these other corps, so I'm fully on-board and psyched for what's coming up for GL
I only got into Green Lantern and GLC 4 issues ago and I'm liking what I read. I didn't feel lost in any way at all. I like the complexity, I certainly prefer it to the braindeadedness of events like Secret Invasion.
If you wanna see a twisted Green Lantern story, check out Green Lantern #213 from 1987 (you guys probably have it in the shop there). Star Sapphire captures Hal Jordan's girlfriend Arisia and makes her lick Star Sapphire's boots and clean the floor with her hair. I think my mind was warped by reeding this as a youngster.
I completely disagree. It's a great time to be a Superman fan. If you include Supergirl and Adventure Comics, you have no less than six amazing Supes titles.
I'm sorry guys, but I'm putting my foot down on this issue: Green Lantern is not convoluted! Granted, the "Secret Origin" storyline was a bit drawn out, but I still enjoyed that.
Now I know the current storyline isn't "new reader friendly" but most are not to begin with and like I said previously, if they haven't gotten on board yet, then its they're loss.
I agree so bad with you guys it's not even funny.
Why is there this insane amount of love for what Johns is doing to the corps ?!

Joes & elliot are my favorite comic reviewers. They tell it like it is throughout the industry.
So just because i 100% disagree with this segment- doenst mean i dont enjoy their show anyless.
Im just shocked at their opinions for these titles.
I pose this question to everyone---What is worth reading at DC anymore??
my vote is Supes & GL titles.

Yeah mate, I liked R.E.B.E.L.S....although I hate having to spell it lol.
Its quality, I liked L.E.G.I.O.N way back in the early 90's and this is a logical follow on, Andy Clarkes art is excellent as well.

Gotta say you guys. 99% of the time i agree with anything you talk about on the show--- but this segment i 100% disagree.
Theres a difference between being "terrible" & "just not into it".
GL & superman are the only worth while titles left at DC. and SUPERGIRL for the last few issues is finally readable with fantastic art.
the GLs are smack dab in the middle of a huge epic storyline- naturally its going to seem "convoluted".
NEW KRYPTON has lame moments. but its not bad at all.

EXACTLY RIGHT, these two morons only love MARVEL and so they can't see a good story coming from DC because they don't like it!
