  • @PizzaVideos555 no its Coffee The Lion at 0:29

  • forehead

  • lol the simpsons song

  • ร่รีีรยยยนนนนนน

  • Slats "Leo" Lion was tame in his first days at Goldwyn Pictures Corporation, he was a statue at Metro-Goldwyn Pictures, other lions replaced him until 1957 at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, I hope MGM continues the films, all they got are DVDs and a channel now...

  • R.I.P.

    Metro Goldwyn Mayer

    1924-2010

  • @2000rubs I knew that, it's just funny how this guy added it to the list.

  • Good old simpsons music. How I miss those days when the episodes were all classics.

  • cazzo metti

  • @mingowt Ora, non c'è bisogno di parolacce così!

  • What a stupid reach, a song about Leo Deroucher, Even the Lion Sleeps Tonight would make more sense.

  • hey alexelliotwelch the 2nd Tanner logo?? in the white not the gold?? where did this logo come from im trying to find it can u get it??

  • WHAT IS THE SONG NAME? IT WILL NOT BE IN MY SPIN-OFF

  • Spin-Off name:THE SOUND OF LEO. O_O

  • 0:29 in that a monkey?

  • @PizzaVideos555 I don't see any monkeys around... just lions and masks. Oh, and a tomcat.

  • I heart this

  • 15 people missed the like button? What a blow for them!

  • could have done it without the music retard

  • i agree

    no music

  • anyone knows where can i get the lion's roar sound as an mp3, kinda need it for my project??

  • Also hated the "tattoo" logo that appeared on records!

  • Tanner looks mean!

  • Was the one at 0:35 for an animated movie?

  • i don't circle, that one looks scarymind looking at these early logos of mgm but the one i don't like is the one when they made the sixties shows for mgm the one in the circle that one looks scary.

  • There's a rumor, and it's almost certainly true, that one of the MGM lions got loose during his video shoot and mauled a cameraman and tore his balls off.

  • Where does the head beneath the lion stands for?

  • The head beneath the Lion stands for an owl (for wise) and it has a heart shape for its torso.

The meaning is that by using emotion, you will draw spectators, which is what movies, television, etc is all about.

Con men or con women also use emotion to get people to pay attention to them and give them money.

The Lion stands for the devil that consumes souls (or spirits). Watching TV, movies, etc. is usually time wasted by the viewer in that he does not make money, but spends it.

  • I think it's supposed to be a drama mask.

  • Oh no that give me bad dream when I get eating by a lion

  • that cartoon lion was Jackie

  • That's a good song.

  • I'm sure all you diehard Lion fans know this but i found this out quite recently - The MGM lion isnt Roaring!! He's Yawning!!!

Seriously no jokes!! anyone care to prove me wrong??

  • Animal Documentry Sky 1 last year and i never forgot it ... weird...

  • You were off the mark by one logo...or should I say off the Marx? (A Night at the Opera)

  • Hmmmmm...

So according to 1:03, it would no longer be "MGM" but "MGM/PEP/TPGC/S/C/DLJ/Q"? Well, I can see why they continue to keep it down to "MGM" -- you could hardly fit the lion on the screen!!! LOL...

BTW, was this video made before or after MGM-movies were distributed on home video by Twentieth Century Fox? You might want to add that to the list if so...

  • where can I recuperate this logo? and alter it for a private logo?

  • サルゲッチュ2OMB

  • lol 1:05 Tom the cat!

  • @agent2401 TOM AND JERRY!!!!

  • yes this great i loved it , i now know more about the MGM logo. did not know there was more than one lion. I was always under the impresion, the my uncle, volney phifer owned & trained the only lion from 1924 to 1938 when leo died.when leo was not touring the world, his home was in a small town in gillette, new jersey USA.this cat had nine lives for sure. he survived a plane crash, two train wrecks,a flood ,a fire, and an explosion.I have hundreds of b/w photos from the 20's & 30'S. and thanx!

  • so you know leo in person? that's pretty cool :D

  • no, i wish . leo died long before i was born

i have so many pics of my uncle's in wwII uniform's standing next to leo in his cage.also have pics of the truck that was made just for leo . im going to try to make a video of this book i have of all these pics

  • ah okay. I'd like to watch the vid if you'll upload it here. could you send me a message when the vis is up?

  • Have you tried subscribing to my videos?

  • whats up with the blue logo that says just mgm with a sketcehd lion??? at 0:55

  • At 0:26 is it Telly the Lion?

  • unknown mgm lion logo at 0:26,SCARRIIE!!!!

  • can any1 tell me which lion is which; im getting confused

  • @SplatUr789z Have you tried the CLG Wiki?

  • @alexelliottwelch Dude... you forgot the most original! The Fearless Vampire Killers one!!!!!

  • @SplatUr789z I *think* it's like this: The first one is Slats, the next is Coffee, then Jackie, then Tanner, then either Coffee or Telly, Tanner again, the animated lion, then Tanner again, 0:44 is George, then leo when it say "after 50 years" and on.

  • It was actually at 0:33 that i saw the cartoon MGM Lion sorry my bad.

  • its a nice video. So stop calling it annoying!

  • Thanks. But it's wasn't annoying, though.

  • Have you thought about writing to the Guinness book of World of Records to see if they have the world's most annoying person contest?

  • It's not annoying.

  • At 1:37 is that a cartoon MGM Lion that i see?

  • 1:37 is the end of the video. so no.

  • Early Comment was 4 haurko01 btw!

  • hey you

  • Yes?

  • Scare Factors(In my opinion),

    Slats: None to Low

    Jackie: Median

    Coffee: High to NIGHTMARE

    Tanner: Median

    Bob: Low

    Stanley(current lion): Low to Median

(This is my opinion about the logos, don't be harsh)

  • Stanley?

This is the third name I've heard given to this lion, besides Jackie III and Leo. Wikipedia calls him Leo, as opposed to Slats, Tanner, etc.

    Bob's real name was al-Marah.

There was another NIGHTMARE lion named Telly, who worked alongside Coffee.

The original Goldwyn lion was named Leo.

Now who was that lion at 00:25, anyway? Don't think I've seen him before, unless it's Slats at another angle.

  • I don't know... but right now I'm rating him as "NIGHTMARE"!

That creepy thing on the bottom of the circle with the heart-shaped mouth, whatever that is, doesn't help either.

Anyway, my favorite is Tom :D

  • i dont like that thing too, its a Drama/Tribal mask and that is prolly the lion's partner

  • @GirlintheWater: That's what I thought that thing was! A drama mask.

I have to agree, it has always creeped me out, especially in the early logos. *shudder* O__O

  • @meesterfonnyboy yea. it's slats, as the 1st lion was preciously seen on the Goldwyn Pictures logo. the angle was different those two logos.

  • this lion was born in dublin zoo and its original name was Cairbre.

  • which lion?

  • could the song BE any more sarcastic?

  • tom lol

  • The MGM Leo logo still brings chills to me when I see it and he him roar. What a grand studio. The absolute tops...I don't care too much for the modernistic ones though...

  • I read somewhere that the roars of Slats' successors were dubbed. Is this true? Just curious. Thanks in advance.

  • I don't like the 5th and 6th logos of MGM.

  • Me either! I used to have nightmares of the sixth logo. That lion in that logo acted like he wanted to kill someone! Someone in another post informed me that the fifth logo was the scariest of the two; I haven't seen this one roaring yet.

  • what is the last?

  • it would be very interesting if you add the years the logos were used/created in one of the corners..

so this way it will be a real retrospective slideshow :))

  • there's one with Pink Panter, too :)

  • LOL TOM...

  • Although it does depend on which version you watch (i think it's for Dance Of..)

  • If there's one version of the MGM logo that scared me as a kid it was the one used for The Fearless Vampire Killers (aka Dance Of The Vampires). Hard to explain, you just have to watch it.

  • Which one? There were two versions of it: One has Leo's head morphing into a green cartoon vampire; the other, which was preceded by a short comic-cartoon version of the Dracula story, had Leo's fangs shoot out to sabre-tooth length. Both versions had a drop of cartoon blood trickling down as the credits scroll up. (The latter version can be seen here on YouTube.)

  • no, I need to know what that image at the base of the logo is. People's lives may depend on it.

  • guess thats me told

  • looks kind of like black face MGM was known for minstrel shows back in the day.

  • you're right it does look a bit minstrel like. It also looks it bit like a tribal war mask of sorts.

  • the mask is the scary thing that adds the horror of the lion itself Oo

  • the mask is one thing that still scares me plus the lion

  • ROAR!!!!!!!!

  • what's the deal with the Mask/Penguin/evil Gingerbread man at the base of the LOGO??: And what's the deal with the Simpsons Softball theme?

  • I like the one at 0:49 the best =p

    nice video

  • What was the Logo on 0:33 from

  • You left out the Home Video Logos, but otherwise Nice job

  • You're right there.

If I have the guts, I would do an exetended edition of the the 1st MGM Logos video! Watch this space everybody!!! Over und oot!

  • You were awsome making that video. I will download that

  • But, how?

  • do you know what the Latin above the lion's head(in the strip of film above his head) means?

  • Ars Gratia Artis means

Arts for Arts Sake in Latin

  • ooh, thanx, do you take Latin?

  • it says that on wikipedia

  • I'm a big fan of MGM.

  • Yes, of course, you are.

  • Anybody got video of the Leo at point 0:26 in this slide show? Yikers!

  • That was one of, if not the first, lion filmed in color in the late 20's!

  • Let me add that it was a silent logo. He does "roar", if you wanna call it that, but it really looks more like a sneeze!

  • sounds alot like something you would hear from the BearNakedLadies.

  • What song is this called?

  • "Talking Softball" a parody/reworking of the Terry Cashman-written-and-performed "Taking Baseball". The parody/reworking, sung by Terry himself, was heard on an episode of "The Simpsons", where Homer was in a softball team, lead by Monty Burns.

  • well.... that's what i need this history.
