  • 'Wish we could see Jimi and Jeff play NOW. In 2011. Jeff Beck, in my humble opinion, is the most innovative of the "THREE" - Clapton, Page, Beck. I don't want to say BEST, just most innovative. Always experimenting. A restless man, but we're the beneficiaries of that. Rock on/jazz on, Jeff!

  • Ahhh, cute and funny.............he's my fav even though I love the other esp Jimmy Page's song writing. That is one very original acceptance speech, I love it.

  • @itsthemoman Why should Van Halen not be mentioned? He was a pretty innovative musician who played guitar just like Beck and Jimi. He played and people copied him just like the other two. He has his own sound and style and basically created a new way to communicate through the instrument. That sounds like he belongs there to me. Maybe you should go listen to Fair Warning.

  • It does not get any more ROCK-N-ROLL than that!

  • lol

  • There is no "best" !!! It's a bout style, taste, technique, phrasing & expression! And Jeff Beck happens to be a MASTER at all of em!!

  • Awesome speech.

  • SRV crushed him when they toured..Beck even cowered on stage before the mighty SRV during one performance..it was funny.SRV cut many heads

  • @Pre00 Oh, please! JB cowered before SRV? Do you have some kind of proof? Because JB's guitar playing is far more complex, original and technically challenging than SRV's. I've tried to cop both of these guys' licks and without a doubt SRV is easier to cop than JB. There is *no way* that SRV could play JB's music.

  • @Pre00 I saw the tour when they came to my area. JB did the exact same thing to Stevie as well. If anything, they just both admired eachother so much and even goofed around quite a bit on stage. No competition, just two top notch axemen sharing the spotlight. :)

  • Vintage Beck

"Because they kicked me out...they did...fuck dem!"

  • Just curious, who inducted the Yardbirds into the Hall of Fame? Can't seem to find the answer anywhere even on the R&RHOF site.

  • say him live a few months ago, one of the best live preformers ever. one of the most underated and best guitarists out there, his music is beautiful and just amazing, he is one of the guitar gods along with hendrix, voughn, and clapton.

  • Prince can outplay of these poser guitarists today....

  • @StSimonOfTrent

so what, I have to ask, is the cause of your hearing problem?

  • @StSimonOfTrent first of all, prince is one of the worst ''artists'' ever to live and second, learn to spell fuck face

  • @LivingIn1969 - That's a bit illogical. Prince is NOT "one of the worst artists ever to live." Sort yourself out because the only person you're hurting with your anger is YOU.

Also, I'd say that ANY person who can play the piano, drums. bass, guitar, harmonica, and other instruments, write ALL of their songs, teach themselves production and also the technical aspects of sampling is most likely not in the bottom pile when thinking of "the worst."

  • @FredericaBimble are you fucking kidding me man?? u think justin bieber or britney spears or drake write their own songs?? HELL NO. they hire song writers and feed off their music. Beck, Page, Clapton, The Stones, Zeppelin, now you're talking about real songwriting, not fucking prince, tho in his case he probably did write his own stuff.

  • I think Beck is "better" than Hendrix. Not putting Jimi down, he is awesome in his own right. But Jeff Beck was there first, and I think Hendrix and everyone got a lot from what Jeff had done already with the Yardbirds. I don't believe in the concept of "better" guitarists---after one reaches a certain level, one can take his own road and accomplish whatever his nutured talent and creativity allow him. Beck and Hendrix both did this, in their own ways. They respecdted each other. Nuff said

  • @greattoucan I've just read a book about jazz music and jezz fusion ,and there was Jeff and Jimmi mentioned. It said that Hendrix was a great influence for Beck which I find ridiculous (because when Hendrix started his proper career Jeff was famous prosperous guitarist) and I'm happy that someone is sharing my point of view :)

Some people said that Jeff took a lot from Hendrix's music ,but as you said. They both went different ways

  • @greattoucan No hes not ...

  • ... And that's why Jeff Beck rules!

  • but they didn't kick him out....

  • @zeppelinstrat They did, they left him when he was suffering food poisoning after he had eaten spoiled fish. They went on tour to Australia and even didn't phoned him to tell about their plans

  • @alicea666 Oh. I read that he had a breakdown onstage and freaked out and left the band after he and Jimmy had been doing the dual-lead guitar thing for a while.

  • @zeppelinstrat It depends on personal point of view. There are many stories about Jeff Beck and to this day I'm not 100 % sure which one is real. Beck is a person who wants to protect his privacy so...he often makes things up. The one thing I know for sure is that Beck is the best guitarist ever ! :)

  • Beck is so fucking awesome- You would have to have some big ass balls to call a famous band out like that on television. At least he got his "real" induction last year (and his performance with jimmy was fantastic I might add)

  • Jeff Beck is not the only player affected this way by Jimi. IIRC Mike Bloomfield once lived in an apt. in SF across the street from a park where Jimi was playing a small concert one day, went over and saw him. Says he came back home in a sort of stunned daze, got his guitar, and packed it away, reasoning that there was no longer any reason ever to play guitar again. Like Jeff, literally wondering what to do next for a living.

Rick Wakeman did the same thing to me with the piano.

    Bastard.

  • Nice one Jeff, you're a legend. Don't know what everyone's problem is here. Jeff picked the perfect moment to get his own back. Rock stars do drugs and alcohol. If that's such an issue with you then go listen to some Gregorian chant or something.

  • Beck is the coolest guitarist after Hendrix.

  • Further..look at the body language of everyone standing there..even Beck who is being inducted..getting an award...and thn look at Page...he looks wired beyond...normalcy if you get my drift. Beck looks completely sober and not on any "stimulants"...or as those hanging with Page at that time called them, "Jim"ulants"....

    Peace all.

  • wow, what a speech.... pfft... and then he plays amazing grace??

  • This my all-time favorite acceptance speech.

  • Drugs, Schmugs,

IMagine for one moment how happy Jimmy must be!

    Id be permanently giggling.

  • pagey stopped using after early 80's from what Ive read.he seems like he's in good spirits in this clip, not doped up like somebody posted

  • Comment removed

  • hilarious,watched this so many times,classic

  • Fuck them

  • Page was laughing non-stop and uncontrollably because he was most likely on something..as in 1993 he was still using.

Beck, on the other hand, looks coherent, sober and as usual> VERY direct when he speaks!! Gotta' love ole' JB...64 now and still rockin away better than anyone half his age.

  • i find it so dumb when people on youtube try to figure out if the guy they are watching is on drugs or not, i doubt page would go there stoned. my opinion

  • Comment removed

  • He stopped using in 93 not 83-85. And when you say stopped using, well, he stopped using WHAT? He in fact was an active alcholic till at least 93. I saw him ten feet away from me in Philadelphia in 1985 & he was WASTED. So much for your 83 etc. Don't forget the after concert inteview of him,Plant & Jones at Live Aid where he was wasted off his gord and couldn't form words. Those around him said he drank 1/2 bottle of whiskey before the show. This Beck vid is from 93..he seems quite drunk or etc..

  • Comment removed

  • Who cares??? He should care. It's his health stupid. Alchohol is poison when it becomes a habit and in excesses. "He's having a good time" ???...famous last words....let's see, who was extremely close to Page that choked to death on their own vomit brought on by over consumption of alchohol??? Oh yeah! John Bonham. wife , kids, carreer...LIFE..>> GONE forever at about 31 years old because of.."just having a good time". And then.."Brits are known to hold their liquor well"....You moron.

  • Comment removed

  • Thringer09, I was not trying to pick a fight. I called you a moron for one reason which was because it was appropriate.

You stated the following, " Brits are known to hold their liquor well." First of all that is a very subjective comment not to mention that it is a very foolish one. If in fact a person was capable of "holding their liquor" that does not mean that they are not causing damage to their liver, kidneys, blood, brain cells etc. Your statement was moronic.

  • He stopped using Heroin in 82-83. He continues to cause damage to his liver, kidneys, blood, brain cells etc. by drinking alcohol, just like the rest of the world.

  • "He continues to cause damage to his liver, kidneys, blood, brain cells etc. by drinking alchohol, just like the rest of the world." So, you're claiming that every person in the, "rest of the world" drinks alcohol to excess?

So, your brilliant point is that even though he's causing damage to his organs from the overusing alcohol, it is "ok" because millions of other people also cause the same types of damage to their body by using alcohol to excess??

    Such wonderful logic you apply~~~

  • WTF who wants to hear about what alcohol does to a body.the video was hilarious, comment on that or what a kick ass guitar god beck is,if I wanted to learn about alcohol disease I would have chosen a clip on ted kennedy.

  • Kevox:

    Learn how to spell "alcohol"

AND learn how not to stress people.

absurd! not even improved......pokipoki and hide and block people...

  • Jimmy was SO cute in the background laughing his ass off!

  • Where can I find the rest of The Yardbirds introduction to the Hall of Fame?

  • Haha, this is perfect. I love Pagey's expressions in the background, lol.

  • If you have DirecTV it will be on Fuse, channel 339 this Saturday, 4 April 2009... should be great fun. Beck/Page together again!

  • Absolutely classic acceptance speech.

Can't wait for 4/4/2009, I think he'll be completely lost for words!

  • is he being inducted then?

  • Indeed, it is finally Jeff's turn this Saturday - with Jimmy Page inducting him!

  • Oh wow!

    great.XD

do u know what channel that would be on?:)

  • Jeff or Mr. Page? I think we ought to have written some words for Page to have recalled about our Jeff's many career accomplishments. Hm?

  • Bless you for posting this!

  • watered down, R&R Hall of Fame.

    How true.

Legends of Jeff Beck, YES, Cooper and a host of others are too good for RRHoF garbage.

  • very happy to say that i might be going to becks induction!!!

most likely not though my friend is really working to get another ticket

  • what will Jeff say when he accepts his very own award @ the RRHOF on 4/4/2009? its a surprise he's showing up for it. its a long time coming and many years too late. a poster below hit the nail on the head, it is the best acceptance speech at any award show ever. from the best guitar player ever....seems fitting.

  • He played with the Stones right after Mick Taylor left in late '74 and he would have got the gig on sheer musical talent. But as some of you pointed out, he is not the guy you wanna go on tour with for a year.

  • Always my favorite guitarist, bored by the

people he played with, always changes in

his bands. Why should he be gracious at

the watered down, R&R Hall of Fame? Even the 'franchise', Madonna got in the door last year. What does she have to do with Rock & Roll??? Nothing, just promotion of slick product. Finally Jeff gets in, but it's too late. Soon Disney ilk

    creations, like Hannah Montana/Milie C.

will be on the list to be honored. Best to see Jeff play live, he is truly amazing.

  • where is clapton>?

  • Clapton was touring with the MTV unplugged series.

  • Btw Jeff''s getting his own hall of fame gong April 4th 2009. I saw him 2 days ago and he was amazing. Band was great. 22 year old bass player Tal Wilkenfeld was an absolute delight ....playing in her hometown Sydney msut have been a treat.

  • Beck rules. R and R hall of fame sucks ass.

  • beck is the real thing.

  • Best acceptance speech at an awards night ever! Coolest bloke on the planet.

  • jimmy page's laugh is cute.. :D

    woot beck!

  • saw him at ronnie scotts last year. the most amazing live guitar performance ive ever seen. better than satch steve vai all those guys, who ive also seen. He totally blows hem out the water, cos they're only 1 trick ponies. I beleive hendrix is the best, no doubt, but jeff beck is the best and most exciting guitarist alive today and i strongly advise and recomend anyone to go and see him live. He was absolutely phenominal. kinda makes you wonder what hendrix would be like now.

  • @JerrySmith2 I also just love Jeff Beck, he is phenomenal and a bad-ass musician/ Rock guitarist. I also like his "I don't give a fuck" attitude. But you are being ignorant by saying that Satriani is only 1 trick pony......

  • @JerrySmith2 you lucky b*stard, i have the ronnie scott's dvd, but i would have loved to have gone seen him there. I'm going to see him live for the first time in October this year, can't wait!

  • He's in this year.

  • beck rules

  • BTW, I know this is Beck's cheeky humor but is this not the best HOF speech ever?

  • For sheer scandal and hullabaloo, I'd go for Mike Love's acceptance speech at the Beach Boys induction. He was slamming everyone and there were catcalls and boos from the audience. Very rock 'n roll!

  • I am a musician and most guitarists I know who play rock all say the Beck is and was one of the influential greats on par with Hendrix, Van Halen, etc. He is in my opinion one of the best rock guitarists ever and he is very underrated because he doesn't care about the fame aspects. He plays with his thumb the way that really good guitarists do. His tone and style are simply all Beck. Like Trane or Bonham he has his own sound that is recognizable right off the bat.

  • @Gretschdrums75 there were plenty of brilliant guitarists that didn't play with their fingers. Beck is amazing but you don't have to discount what everyone else does because he chooses to not do it.

  • @Gretschdrums75 van halen should not be mentioned in the same sentence as jimi hendrix and jeff beck!

  • was he being inducted as a yardbird, or from the the jeff beck group? cuz i think i see jimmy page.

  • as a yardbird,

  • Yardbirds.

  • i need to listen more to Jeff Beck. his stuff is really good, a different style from Clap and Page that I'd really like to look into. that's what i really meant.

  • I love Beck's stuff.

    Really,that's more beautiful and pure,

maybe we can share feeling about Jeff's stuff,

    hs's awesome!

  • of course. just being stupid is all, i dont mean it seriously...at all. i cant tell you how much these people mean to me,, all of them.

  • Curse included? that kinda blows.

  • you do have a sense of humor, mate?

  • May 1000 locusts eat out your eyes. How's that for a curse?

  • ROFL OWNED!

  • lol he's with Jimmy Page!

  • jeff is a cool guitarist and one of the greats!

  • jeff beck rules

  • atleast the band didnt have to play him off

  • This is funny...Beck has always been a cheeky cockney in comparison to the other Yardbirds, who were one of the best bands EVER...especially the brief period with Beck & Page...they didn't kick him out, he just couldn't handle the endless touring bands had to do in those days and cracked up... and he SHOULD be proud!

  • well said~

  • Amen to that. Glad you set the record straight.

The Yardbirds deserve to be remembered as one of the top British invasion bands along with the Beatles The Who, The Stones, and The Kinks.

  • Absolutely. I'd put The Animals (the original line-up) in there too, although they didn't last that long.

  • Yes, Jeff had a nervous breakdown, spinal menningitus and supposedly went through a divorce, too. But he bounced back with "Hi Ho Silver Lining" in 1967, then came Truth, Beck-Ola, etc.

  • so funny~

    Jeff was so cool~

    love him~

  • true, but rather 'is' cool! hes the man!

  • Even he said that,he's still the coolest ghiter master all the time.

Amazing Jeff,he's the MAN and the BEST.

    totally agree!!!!!

  • Yardbirds were so lucky, they got 3 great guitarists at one point or another.

  • Best acceptance speech I've ever heard.

  • lol... it's nice to see this video!

  • I am glad he waa smiling when he said that.
