I'm impressed the cars actually stayed stopped at the gateless crossing even though it was quite a while before the train actually arrived at the crossing! Awesome seeing steam engines no matter where you are; even if you're not into trains.
@mommabeardee Well, I can hear the bells ringing on my computer, but I don't know why they aren't ringing on yours. As for the crossing gates, it's a very old set of railroad crossing signals. Even if they were replaced, the new signals might not include gates. Two set of new signals were recently installed on South Shiawassee Street in Owosso and, although they're beautiful with all kinds of additional lights, they don't have gates either.

@PringlePan It's going so slowly because it's pulling long passenger cars through some sharp turns just south of the crossing. It picks up speed shortly after clearing the turns.
I have chased Frisco 1522 numerous times and UP 844 before as well. I see the people hurry to beat the signal and think how they would feel later if they knew what they just missed seeing. I wonder how many of those people got the feeling of awe and wonder like they had not felt since childhood. This is a great vid!!!
A train passing is an event. A steam- hauled train passing.... now that's something else. Fovourited/ *****. In retirement I'd like to live in a caboose and hook-up to the back of all kinds of regular freight consists.
The tracks belong to the Great Lakes Central Railroad that is headquartered here. The "GLC" is rapidly growing, they've laid new rails, and I know some signals are being replaced soon. Maybe some arms will be installed here soon.
Mike - the head of the Steam Railroading Institute was at a planning and update meeting last night here in Owosso. He said that they had just signed their seventh steam locomotive to the event. This TrainFestival 2009 is going to be phenominal!
It's a great honor to meet you. Such a wonderful part of history your grandfather played. Seeing the train - every time you see the train - must create emotions the rest of us can hardly imagine.

Unique video of cool evening. The moving cars, the blue sky & the sound (horn) of approaching train create a beautiful scene.
The journey by train is rightly called " royal journey ". It's so luxury.
Thanks for sharing this upload. The clear recording has added to the beauty of this video.

The blue & yellow striped cars are Canadian. Canadian Pacific with the "CP" logo painted out.
mindlesspup 1 year ago
No there former VIA cars your right about them being canadian
iggyjill 1 year ago
@mindlesspup Actually, they are ex-Via Rail from CN. CP's cars were stainless steel. CN's were smooth-sided steel cars.
