Why do people always yell, "Do something about it!" and "Fix it!" Procedures have to be scheduled, sometimes they can't have them before they are a certain age, etc. Do you people really think they would NOT get that fixed? What parent would love their kid and yet not have such a thing corrected?
I was working some times on gyn. station in hospital. One family had a baby with a cleft lip and the grandparents wrote:
"In medieval people said, babies with a cleft lip are a wonder, because in heaen, angels let them in on secrets. After that, the angels put their fingers on the lips to show the baby to keep the secret."
It's so wonderful of these grandparents... Because they recongnized how special the baby is.

And those of you who kept saying to fix his lip...most surgeons do that between 2-6 months of age. they do not do it right away. please educate yourself. :)
I have a cleft lip & palette and I'm now 17 and doing well in life. I personally have never had any real trouble at school or anything growing up, and I only realise I'm different when I think about it. To me I'm normal, the only thing that does bother me about looking different is that I've noticed some people think that because of the pyhsical difference and lack of confidence, then there must be some mental retardation to go with it. That really annoys me.
Please stop acting like it's the end of the world. Its not! (: i was born with this... it may get rough with being teased etc.. but you become strong, and you learn to help others <3
My ex boyfriend had this . He also got hit by a truck . I still think he`s the most good looking boy on this earth . Even though I broke up with him because I was moving far away . I will always love him . I still do . I think that no matter who I meet no one could be as perfect as him . No matter what he looks like . He has gotten his lip fixed , And he now needs surgery to put extra bones in his mouth . I love you Chris . So much .
i love cleft babies, most beautiful in the world. wish people could see the beauty we see. my daughter couldnt have her lip repaired till she was 18 months old because of her condition and had to suffer people saying "isnt she weird", "isnt she ugly" its a sad world when people can make comments like that about a child.

@hannahjoiq Thanks for your comment and question. His cleft has been repaired but prior to the repair and in this video, no there is nothing between the roof of his mouth and his nostril. Yes he could and DID stick his tongue in his nose. Also feeding him was difficult because when swallowing, his tongue would push the food into his nose, @7 months old he discovered if he put his fingers in there he could swallow most of his food. Some went down his arm and was quite messy but inventive!
So beautiful. Looks like my nephew. After the surgery it looked like they'd ruined him. His amazing smile was gone! Was a little shocking at first after the surgery for him to not look like him. Hope all is going well with Zachary.

I realized babies with cleftlips such as my neice, are born with beautiful personalities and faces. MOstly the eyes. I just love babies with cleftlips! When i was in 7th grade i made a fundraiser for the smile train foundation and made up to 260 dollars and helped a baby get his or her new smile. I even got a free shirt even though i didnt want one.
@MommaFahidy I had Jayden on wednesday 7-21-10 at 9:30am. He was four pounds and half an ounce and 17 inches long. He is now three weeks old and almost five pounds! He will be in the NICU for a another week or so before coming home. He is the most beautiful baby boy ive ever seen in my life! I have put videos up on my channel. He is breathing on his own, his hole in his heart closed, he got out of his incubator, he is eating very very well and he is doing great. God is soo good!
i have 2 people in my family (me and my brother) with this condition and all i can say to parents is kids are not understanding and don't understand difference your child WILL get a lot of torment from kids from school so what you need to do is to talk to the teacher to let the kids know why johnny talks and looks different well this is our experience with having a cleft cause this is what we have been through. living with this condition can be hard but we always find someway to prevail

Good luck with all that comes your way but be prepared that at times it can be hard, 1st dealing with any medical issues and 2nd dealing with stupid people. @MommaFahidy How many surgeries has he had? I went to get another ultrasound today and Jayden's lip looks alot like Zakariah's. They couldnt tell much because his little hand was in front of his mouth most of the time so they wont know much until next ultrasound. But i have a meeting with the surgeon in two weeks to see how everything will go with that. Im excited!!

@ThirdReich100 yes his lip has been fixed and there is newer video of him. He is adorable and you can hardly tell he had this birth defect. He has some of the best medical care in the world, he is very lucky.
@CoreMaster111 not really that sad, he has brought alot of joy to our lives. He did have to go through alot in his first year but we are lucky to live where we do with free medical services. He is very happy and has been right from birth.
I was born with the same imperfection as this little boy. My heart goes out to him in all that he will suffer in growing up. Although it usually has a way of making a person much more sensitive to the plight of others whereas others take it all for granted. So in a way it will benefit him. It is good that they have improved in the surgeries from when I was a kid in the 60's..
@MrGlowster he is very lucky to have very good plastic surgeons and you are right they have come along way since the 60's. His lip and palate have been repaired and he only had a minor scar which will fade with age. He does have a few more operations that he will need as he ages but he is doing very well :)
my little sister had a cleft lip when she was born. she has had a few operations over the years ranging from shortly after birth to 12. she is 16 now and just got braces out. you seriously could never in a million years tell she had the cleft lip. your little guy here looks gorgous and so reminds me of when my sister was little. she used to stick her toungue out at me all the time so cute haha. sure he will be a handsome man. good luck kiddo

a friend has the same ting hapened to his first born. it was open from his upper lip to behind tis throat. now that boy is 6 years old and will need 2 more serguries but the upper lip is closed and he is a beautifull and happy kid

@MommaFahidy How many surgeries has he had? I went to get another ultrasound today and Jayden's lip looks alot like Zakariah's. They couldnt tell much because his little hand was in front of his mouth most of the time so they wont know much until next ultrasound. But i have a meeting with the surgeon in two weeks to see how everything will go with that. Im excited!!

@MommaFahidy It is 2011 so this video is about 4 years old. I hope you did some kind of operation to your baby cause i've seen such cases on the web and it is fixable. Cute!

@ThirdReich100 yes his lip has been fixed and there is newer video of him. He is adorable and you can hardly tell he had this birth defect. He has some of the best medical care in the world, he is very lucky.

@CoreMaster111 not really that sad, he has brought alot of joy to our lives. He did have to go through alot in his first year but we are lucky to live where we do with free medical services. He is very happy and has been right from birth.

I was born with the same imperfection as this little boy. My heart goes out to him in all that he will suffer in growing up. Although it usually has a way of making a person much more sensitive to the plight of others whereas others take it all for granted. So in a way it will benefit him. It is good that they have improved in the surgeries from when I was a kid in the 60's..

@MrGlowster he is very lucky to have very good plastic surgeons and you are right they have come along way since the 60's. His lip and palate have been repaired and he only had a minor scar which will fade with age. He does have a few more operations that he will need as he ages but he is doing very well :)

I was born with the same! Trust me.. it's going to get pretty after some surgeries.. It's amazing what they can do :)

my little sister had a cleft lip when she was born. she has had a few operations over the years ranging from shortly after birth to 12. she is 16 now and just got braces out. you seriously could never in a million years tell she had the cleft lip. your little guy here looks gorgous and so reminds me of when my sister was little. she used to stick her toungue out at me all the time so cute haha. sure he will be a handsome man. good luck kiddo

Zakariah is now 2 1/2, he has had this repaired and is doing well. Thank you so much for all your kind comments. a friend has the same ting hapened to his first born. it was open from his upper lip to behind tis throat. now that boy is 6 years old and will need 2 more serguries but the upper lip is closed and he is a beautifull and happy kid
