  • That was a good one! Next...

  • @Peachfanclub The other guy that won $55,000 turned out to be a wanted fugitive.

  • I remember a player named Jack Archer who won a $65,000 jackpot on this show. Unfortunately for him, someone recognized him as a wanted felon.

  • Didn't Janis Paige also appear as Gloria Unger as Tony Randall's TV ex-wife in the Odd Couple? If that's her, my she got old.

  • @Dodgerfn5 Janis also appeared in Season 3 of Charlie's Angels entitled Angels Ahoy and she was one of the stowaways which shocked Bosley

  • I wonder how much of the winnings the IRS stole

  • This win happened on April 1, 1986.

    Seriously.

  • @Tubewings The same day Vicki Lawrence cussed out the judge on "The $100,000 Pyramid." :-)

  • this happened when?

  • Marjorie!!!!!! You are brilliant!!!!!

  • wow, not only is she rich.

but she was a great player. she got eight in a row with one clue each

  • 1:49: Stop the Clock, $55,000!!!

  • THe day before this, Carl was playing for $50K with Janis. He got the word Frog after Janis said pass. He then said the word Frog right after the buzzer, after getting all the other passwords. The rule is that you don't get credit for a guessed password in Super Password's end game after the celeb says Pass. You have to go back and get the passed word. In Summer 1985, they awarded a $20K win when the last word "Inn" was guessed clearly after the buzzer, but not for the Frog incident.

  • She was also Babe in the original Broadway run of THE PAJAMA GAME.

  • I'm just surprised at how calm she was win she won the $55,000. I would be raising all kinds of hell if that was me! :-D

  • Gotta hand it... the woman's smart.

  • If you look down at Janice's left hand, she's almost making a gesture of shooting marbles. I'm guessing that if that had been visible by the contestant, it would have been illegal?

  • Looking at it again, I don't think that was a gesture.

  • I'm sure Janice didn't mean to do that

  • $55,000 in 1988 = $99,146 today

    WOW!

  • This episode was from 1986.

  • what's a increase of how many.

  • @scottbaino how do you figure?

  • @classicgamer101 You adjust it for inflation.

  • Who was the celebrity? I just don't recognize her.

  • Janice something

  • I heard "Janice"... but that still doesn't tell me who she is!

  • Maybe Janice Paige?

  • Yup, that's it. From one of the soap operas. That's who it is. Thanks!

  • Yea, and I think she made some movies too. Didn't she play the stage actress in "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" with Niven/Day?

  • It is Janis Paige, who played the waitress that Archie Bunker almost had an affair with on "All In The Family" in 1976 and 1979, and was getting ready to play hospital administrator Catherine Hackett on the last season of "Trapper John, M.D." when this episode came out in 1985.

  • huge broadway star and made several movies (Please Dont Eat The Dasies)

  • Janis Paige

  • With $55,000: buy a house AFTER paying your debts off...oh the nostalgia...

  • That was the BIG ONE.

    William.

  • Holy Redd Fox!

  • HOLY (CRAP)!!! $55,000!!?

  • it didn't sound like the giver paused between "street" and "shoot"

  • Same for "Kid" and "Game"...

  • Yeah, well, they did.

    Look closer.

  • There had to be a slight pause, if it were @ the same time, the jackpot would have been forfeited.

  • i agree, it didn't sound that way at all.

  • I sure wish every kid on Kid Nation who did not get the gold star splits the consolation prize of $55,000.

  • df? she didnt look to happy especially bak then that was quite a bit of money..i woulda been like screamin...maybe she didnt need the money as bad as i do lol

  • Hey, does anyone know what they do with the set after a show's been cancelled?

  • Any time someone suggests that an 80s game show was faked, they just show how igorant they are. There is NO WAY that any game show was rigged after the Quiz Show scandals of the 60s. Especially this. The risks FAR outweighed any gain. Why fake this? Eventually SOMONE was going to win the super jackpot. So why would they pick her?

  • And out of curiosity, why WOULDN'T you say uranium? What other metal do you know that starts with a U? The fact that this woman is a far better player than you does not mean it was rigged. It just means that you are not good at Password.

  • i totally agree with you; also bert says the letter of the word. yes uranium is a tough word, but how many metals start with u

  • @knickknack07 I think the reason for that is because most people misinterpret Uranium not to be a metal, only because they expect it to be a liquid (when being enriched for nuclear weapons). I can't think of any metal that starts with a U. So I agree with you completely. Just most people don't see it as a metal.

  • inevitably, there is always some loser that always says "this is fake!" on every video- congrats on being that loser

  • Hey, Dylan that's uncalled for. I know that some people find solace in the vast curtain of anonymity called the Internet, but I'm willing to bet that you wouldn't be able to say that to my face if you saw me. That hurt my feelings. It's a gameshow. This is Youtube. It's not worth making a big deal out of.

  • Would you be able to make your comment to the contestant's face? How do think it would make her feel.

I am sorry DylainGaine hurt your feelings, but you need to consider the impact of your words as well.

  • I think you make a valid argument. I don't know ANYone who would get uranium. I'm sorry people have been so mean to you. :)

  • It does not matter than no one you know would get "uranium". Maybe she had recently read about uranium in a job, a class, or just on her own.

She may also have deliberately searched for difficult words that might appear. National spelling bee contestants do that.

Sometimes, unusual things happen. That does not mean the incident was rigged.

  • I agree. It always strikes me that if something was staged why would they not choose simpler questions? ones that would not arouse suspicion. Anyone fixing the results of this would have chosen an easier word to guess.

What I mean is if the Q had been quintessential, I think a lot of people would be screaming: fix! if she guessed it from the first clue! lol

  • Okay...how many "U" metals are there?

  • It was given that the word started with the letter U, so the only "staged" incident was you not listening to the freaking explanation

  • That was a great win!! I wonder how the new million dollar password show will be played?

  • Oh, boy! She breaks the bank!

  • AWESOME!

  • The record was tied 2 years later.

  • Unfortunately, it was by the infamous Patrick Quinn (Kari Ketchum) who conned himself out of $55,000 when Alaskan viewers turned him in.

Any videos about the infamous male contestant?

  • wow they wizzed right through those

  • It's been a rule since the beginning I think. If the judges do not beep or correct the mistake by the time they get to the next word, it's automatically allowed due to a judge's error.

  • correct

  • You'd be surprised at how loose Super Password's judging really was!

  • Actually, I remember an episode when a celebrity said "Geese" for "Goose" during the main game. A couple of seconds after the contestant got the word, the illegal clue sound played, disqualifying the word.

  • I meant the end game.

  • thanks for posting ive always wanted to see that win.
