Square foot gardening was developed by David Crockett in Boston and televised on Boston PBS WGBH back in the 70's. It's nice to see that his ideas are still being discussed and demonstrated! I would caution viewers to remember that too much compost and nutrients can result in more leaf then fruit. The keyword is, as usual, balance.

We're doing our first ever sq.ft. garden with the upright system and I can't believe how much food we are getting from it! I've had Mel's book for 10 years but I credit Patti's energy and enthusiasm for getting me out there planting. She's amazing.

I just found the Garden Girl about a week ago and I'm HOOKED!!! I've been thinking about sustainable farming for years but am finally in a position to do it. I look forward to many more videos. I also LOVE Mel! His tips are great.  When I talked to my Mom about square foot gardening she thought things needed to be in rows to grow right. I explained to her that nature would have planted things in rows if it really was ideal. She's cheering me on now. Grow babies grow!
