No, there would not be a deadly gas unless you were right near it when it crashed, that would be radiation, but otherwise, not unless the meteor was huge would everybody die of an explosion... And the rock had, first of all turned molten, second of all, exploded, which means there were tiny rocks that made it all up... Plus, if meteors all released a deadly gas, we would all be dead by now, hundreds of meteors hit Earth every day, although most are particles of dust.

sorry about the double post... anyway, I've seen real meteor craters. I will believe this to be a meteor crater when chunks of molten iron are found. There are many kinds of meteorites, but so called "iron" meteorites are probably most common. A simple test is to hold a magnet up to them. Secondly, there is no evidence of intense heat. Meteors typically "boil away" various elements as they descend through the atmosphere.
