  • so baddddd

  • 39 persons....Fail!!!

  • this really has got to be the worst version ever done of this great song . what a right fukn bono, head this dude is. take some advise u fuk, head park ur irish ass in the cheap seats fuk, head, and stop tryin to act as saint of the world u crettin.

  • I am Brazilian and there is a version of a Brazilian band called"Oficina G3" is it worth seeing only a pretty good version and rock'n roll ... hug from Brazil a comment there ...

  • OTIS REDDING sang this song in 1964

  • Terrible. Bono, I think that's his name, should leave covers of this great song to folks like Seal and Rod Stewart, both of whom sing it with heart, soul, and respect for the author.

  • not hard to pass by this................

  • posers

  • this is the melodic origin of "One"

  • How do you not know who for sure wrote this song? Fuck Bono

  • i love U2 but this is embarrassing

  • U2 did this song October 2001 in Hamilton Ontario Canada on the Elevation tour and Bono still didnt know the words. He even brought up on stage Arun from the crowd to butcher guitar.. So it says 14 years later and the boys are still having fun.

  • Total shit. This is terrible, and embarrassing, not to mention disrespectful.

  • Wow! That was terrible. Bono even got the lyrics messed up. I guess he still hasn't found what he's lookin for...... Soul.

  • Wow!!!!..another paid up rally of the Anti-U2ites!!!! - preaching the bible of ridicule and mockery (anything to try to kill off the little devil man Bono who just won't die) Hate is obsession denied and these obsessives keep cropping up with their burning crosses, their nooses, pitch forks, machetes, grenades, financial statements and a Wikipedic knowledge of music - The Keystone Lynch Mob - only thing they manage to string up is their own pathetic, desperate selves. Roll on U2 ;)

  • @WhoDoYouWant Don't flatter yourself, pal. I like U2 a lot, and I'm sure most people who gave this video a thumbs down do too. It's just that thy BUTCHERED the song. Even the best do it. So save the poetry and allow for people's honest assessment of the song. It looks like 80% of the viewers liked it, so don't worry about it.

    P.S. Fucking atrocious cover.

  • @Thelookoutslookout I thought the deal was You spoke, I spoke, They spoke, We spoke? I feel like I'm back learning English grammer. Here's how it goes in practice - by all means, you write what you want to write... and I'll very much do the same.___ Agreed? ___ Good - everyone's a winner.___ Poetry and compromise, a great combo ;)

  • Please listen to Leslie West's version of People get Ready I think you will like it

  • great version, dont hate u2 just cos they experiment with different music, life is too short not to experiment,l for one would never have heard of this song only for u2 and i personally like it.

  • grausam, die sollten das lassen, allein wie dieser bono unsensibel und vom tempo zu schnell die gitarre schrammelt,..der drummer hat kein timing...stimmt was der vorreder schreibt, mayfield würde sich im grabe umdrehen

  • 'I know a lot about music'

I'm guessing it's not enough to have a career like theirs.

People who say 'I know' can fuck off all the way back to hell.

    xxx

  • suck

  • I'm not agree its not a cover, its more a powerfull version from the original. Bono brings more the tekst to the front, not the song or melody

  • @47Robby you really believe that? wow - I guess it takes different strokes - an irishman doing a mediocre cover of a 20+ year old civil rights anthem and you think it's more powerful - wow.... just wow....

  • This man is trying to murder one of the greatest gospel songs. Please stick to your metal and hard rock, leave Gospel alone!

  • @mpandangazi metal and hard rock? wow you haven´t a clue at all do you.

  • U2 are a great band but this must be the worst cover of this great song

  • u2 sucks!~

  • Superbe prestation live , thanks.

    ema2100.

  • lame by anyone's standards

    massacred great psalong

  • I wish it wasn't so "cool" to hate U2 these days. Okay its not as good as the original, but what cover is? He definitely nails the singing though.

  • @Pure7pazaak i agree. It´s just pathetci to see these idiotic haters. Honestly if I click ona video and it turns out I don´t like it I move on to the next one but these asshole haters must have such empty lives that they need to share their worthless opinion on why something sucks. Bunch of losers if you ask me who more than likely do nothing but bitch and moan about everything in their personal lives as well.

  • Jeff Beck Version Is Better

  • Great! BUT, Jeff Beck's version is much better...awesome song, no matter what! Bless!

  • Murdered it. Take away the pomp, the delayed guitar and you have something very ordinary.

Choruses of "oooh ohhh", which they do all the time, "Bad", "with or without you" to name but two, reveal their limitatations as songwriters. Hey, but it sounds great in a stadium with everyone singing along!

  • @Jim7711154 you know nothing about music if you think that choruses of oooh ohhh are limiting. Music is pure emotion and to sing that well with out lyrics is emotion in its purest form.

  • bollocks.

  • Really. That's all you got.

  • I know a lot about music. And i know the difference between "riff" music, that is, singing over what the guitarists does, and real songwriting. U2 are riff music people, and sometimes they don't have lyrics and we get the ooh ohh etc. i think it's shit stadium rock fodder for cunts. your mileage may vary.

  • That comment was funny as hell :)

  • @Jim7711154 You're so wrong..

  • I don't know why everyone's hating on Bono....he's an awesome singer who can perfect any song he sings...hands down!!!!!

  • beautiful song with a beautiful message

    awesome share orin!

  • He thinks!! I like U2 but Curtis is the only man to sing this tune

  • I think Eva Cassidy's cover (in my opinion) does more justice to Curtis Mayfield.

  • It's a shame,shit on U2

  • terrible

  • Yeah, it's terrible...Bono's only credit is that he knows a good song when he runs across it...he just can't perform it.

  • Bono has done some great songs, but he has an appalling tendency to be pompous and self-righteous. This version of People Get Ready lacks all the soul and intensity of Curtis Mayfield's great song. Talk about a massacre of a classic. Bono sometimes sucks out loud.

  • Douche,,,Curtis is KING!!!!

  • This really sucks, Curtis Mayfiled is turning over in his grave.

  • @berncj uh... yeah. A few times.

  • @berncj Yep. Horrid

  • @berncj actually I don't think he is; every musician who ever wrote a note of music loves the thought that someone would still your pieces after you're gone (even if they're, um, significantly re-imagined)...

  • @gstlb Trust me brother, Curtis would not like this crap under any circumstances. This is total bs.

  • @berncj Mayfield's original version wasn't any better though. If not for Jeff beck nobody would care about this song.

  • @berncj i LOVE U2 , but you're RIGHT-ON !!!(Mtl.)

  • Oficina G3 muitoo melhor !!!! sem comparaçaooo

  • I agree with awful

  • awful

  • its not bad just that theres no reggae feel to it

  • correct...along with Pink floyd

  • Gee, and what band do you think is happenin' and don't say The Beatles, Stones etc.

  • Wtf? He wasn't even sure about the song?

  • U2 (except Adam) has been Christian from the beginning. Why is it inappropriate to find their own vibe for this gospel song?

  • His hair? Who gives a damn.

  • Rare footage free on Youtube and you still carry on with your nonsense. Tough audience, these Youboobers.

  • U2 is good but this song is not suitable for them.

  • I think I should explain for the touchy ones! I don't want no army down on me. :)

I like U2 but I don't like this version of the famed "People get Ready", Give me the original with Curtis Mayfield or Rod Stewart's version any day!

  • I've loved U2 since 1982 but this is simply appalling

  • Yuck!

  • Eurgh. I thought this would be good but I have to say I think they ruined a great song.

  • sometimes i wonder why u2 said that they not really good with remaking songs, which i believe they are some of the songs they do redid in many of the concerts is good not the greatest but good.but you know what they right they are better with they own piece you really see them shine thru they own music.i dont think anybody can really caputre any of U2 songs in many years to come.

  • This is pompous and pitiful attempt to recreate the many-times-greater original ..

Agree with previous comment ... at least they should give a little more credit to Curtis Mayfield, one of the greatest songwriters ever ..

  • Sounds like a busker.

  • He knows who's song he's playing, as Curtis Mayfield wrote it. So, maybe you're the one who should pay attention, moron.

  • he could at least pay attention and know who's song he playin, what an ass. then he butchered it. lord help him.

  • I agree! He Said "I think it's curtis Mayfield" I think he should know.

  • It's a shame, really - to "think" it's Curtis while completely ruining his song. No respect. Just sad.

  • amen to that.

no respect, and not much soul either.

    its just boring.

i have recently gotten addicted to this song through the chambers brothers cover, really raw and beautiful...

  • another great version is jeff beck's live take from the udo music festival, definitely worth seeing.

  • Because you can't copyright a chord progression.

  • Weird question, but was this filed on March 8, 1987, or August 3, 1987? Because I know The Joshua Tree was released in March that year.

  • march, this was aired the same week or there abouts as the josh was released. some classic outakes from togwt, i bet the band wish they rehearsed more now, or maybe not!

  • When they toured with the Joshua Tree they sometimes came on stage singing this

  • Wow, I just stumbled upon this after listening to everyone but my mom sing it. It's actually a great rendition. And really smart of Bono. No one sings this song fast. And it sounds great like this. As a matter of fact everyone else tries to outdo the last by seeing who can make each word last the longest by warbling it up and down the scales until they're forced to move on. And forget about stage presence, they all look like they've got palsy when they sing this. Good job to U2.

  • sum ppl like U2 others hate them they always give it their best thats what i like about em

  • that's a horrible cover version, Bono sucks

  • oh my god they raped a beautiful gospel song.

  • haha! stupid fuck.

  • GREAT!

  • Raw and Passionate Truly Moving

  • oh man, they did not changed a bit :-))

  • post the rest of this awesome artifact!

  • Old school! This is the best band ever!

  • COOL BAND U2

  • thanks for posting this. ive been looking for it for a long time.
