My family's from Kashmir, and my parents speak fluent punjabi, the dialect that is a mixture of punjabi and the regional tongue, tand the common regional language of kashmir. At home, they speak punjabi and kashmiri punjabi, probably the reason why I didn't make an effort to learn pure punjabi. I know a bit of kashmiri punjabi and regular punjabi but thats it. All my family is in India and they speak kashmiri punjabi so I make excuses for not speaking it. Now I'll make an effort to learn punjabi
The punjabi spoken by the speakers at home is more typical of village type punjabi, people spoke different variations, during the times of the british raj, the most respected accent of punjab was from the city of Lahore, citzens of Lahore were used in broadcast radio, still today we see muslim veerji from Lahore speaking very very polite punjabi in comparison to our veers from pinds in ludhian jalhandar, speaking very ruff taait punjabi, which can be very crude& raw, & does push the youth away.
over the years the descending Hindu Jaat Community. aka Sikh Jat have inforced there own culture and even language as proper Gurmukhi and the way of Sikhism. Like Sikhs from Afghanistan have a very unique punjabi, (even though the idea of caste system is rejected in Sikhism, by a reinvented system is being found present now) many elders shut them away and even the youth alienate our own people. The language is going to die out, our generation are shy to talk aswell.
There are also different accents, and vocab adaptations of punjabi some people attribute them to caste i.e. Jatt punjabi or other things. Forinstance paiji pind pronuication of Gurdwara was quite off if the words broken up guru dawara , those words come together. Many misprounce guru or milk dood. Common words, there is alot of tensions within the punjabi and Sikh community over lingusitcs

There are many more languages than Punjabi in Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Gurmukhi is the script.
Lets not limit ourselves to just one language because there are many of us who understand Punjabi but have no understanding of Gurbani.
