A man I know was diagnosed with schizophrenia while in a hospital. I have sat for hours with this man and his family and would have never imagined him to be insane. Now he has recovered enough to go back home and has been cleared by the doctors of any mental health problems. I know he is not insane and was not insane while in the hospital, I visited him three times during his stay. The diagnosis was a lie told to milk his insurance for more money

the psychiatric process is one that undergos the same peer review all other medical processees undergo. The most efficacious solutions become common practice. Can mental illness be resolved without drugs? in some cases yes--but in the cases in which it is less efficacious not to medicate, medicate. As a psychology student, I understand that sometimes using drugs can make my practice more effective; I also understand that sometimes the problem lies beyond the scope of my field.

Spoke with a friend last night recently diagnosed with bipolar. She was molested as a child and raped 7 years ago. She has physical pain and fatigue from fibromyalgia. She's not bipolar she is suffering from abuse inflicted on her with no justice or resolution. But now she is on antidepressants and antipsychotics. She is an abused person unhealed and further abused by psychiatry. It makes me so sad. AND MAD

Well, with any and all medical professions, there is a significant risk in taking medications to treat ailments. And anyone can throw together a video to show the negative sides of something, but I've been to several psychiatrists, and I was rarely prescribed anything. I tried Prozac and Wellbutrin, to treat depression, which I walked myself into there offices to have treated. And while we cannot say that any of the drugs on the market might cure these ailments, there's no doubt that it exists.

Psychiatry is pseudoscience, they can not still prove that the imbalance of some chemicals in the brain are solely responsible for the cause of emotional problems like stress and depression; which in fact is the stimulus that cause the imbalance, not the other way around.

@janatschka100 Sadly, psychiatrists forget that we are still human after all and that there are factors other than biological that influence our behavior, personalities, etc. Psychologists seem to be going off in the wrong direction too, letting too much philosophical work explain away psychological phenomena. Frankly this video is bullshit. It takes guts to be a Psychiatrist as they put up with this crap every day, even from their own physician colleagues, whilst working with some of the most vulnerable members of society - genuinely ill and requiring treatment and support. Good Psychiatrists carefully exclude non cases so people are NOT given drugs inappropriately and spot many missed medical diagnoses, as they are "proper doctors" . Paid for their TIME in the UK, not how many scrips written.
I remember a time I was taken to a psychologist named Irma, I was taken there because of my grades beign in hell. Month after month she talked with my parents to restrict me from my hobbies more and more, staying late, play videogames more than 3 hours daily etc.
Eventually I was so pissed off at her that I simply decided to raise my grades to heavenly levels to cease to visit her, I never completed the treatment.
This reminds me so much of the addiction rehab business. It uses the same paradigm of a chronic progressive brain disease. The only major difference I see between the two is that psychiatry relies on medications while the addiction specialists use 12 step support groups. Then there's the ultimate irony of a dual diagnosis of addiction and mental illness, which is very common.

Psychiatry is for depressed and mentally ill people that have serious, detectable problems directly related to the mind and how it works. I've just known too many who have been hoodwinked into thinking all of their emotional issues are beyond there ability to solve. I've found out the hard way that psychiatry is a business. Every psychiatrist I've dealt with is looking to prescribe drugs and not deal with the real issues too much. Cognitive behavior therapy with exposure is the only true area of psychiatry that really helps people, and even then its very hard to find someone thats not charging outrageous rates.

I'm a medical student right now taking psychopathology, and the errors in this trailer alone are too many to point out here. THIS fear-based $movie$ is biased. They don't mention/interview the millions helped by psychiatry. The science of psychiatry is objective. It hasnt proven everything, but being able to say "we don't know this yet" is a strength of science, not a weakness...what you should watch for are people who pretend they know it all, like the makers of this bogus movie.
I have manic episodes in the summer because of it taking a long time for me to wind down and sleep getting dark later and have lost it a few times but meds didn't help me. I was labeled early on and function higher than most and I can't deny the people helped by this field and think it has a high level of assholes on both end who make those who want to help and are sick look bad... and as someone who was harmed from this and is unbiased enough to say what I did, I wish we were validated.

I went to a psychiatrist when I was 16, he diagnosed me acute bipolar and recommended I see a therapist regarding my issues.
I never have to take drugs, and I only have to visit twice a year now, quite a contrast to the beginning where i would go once a week. I have been stable & happy for over 5 years since then.
This video is a blatant lie, I admit pharma companies like pfizer are evil but c'mon - they've obviously taken every bit of bad they can find, and totally ignored anything good.
people here are so used to have an inmediate fix for everything.. hungry? drive-thru... lost? GPS... you said what? Google it... etc... soo.. people here also expect to have a quick fix for anything in the form of a pill... "sleepy?" energy booster pill.. too awake "sleeping pill" too fat? weight loss pill.... and.... depressed? too happy? anxious ? confused? suicidal? numb? misanthropic? pill..pill.. gimme my FIX!!!...
here is the thing ... I grew up in South America and now live in the beautiful US of A... but I am amazed by the fact everything seems to be fixed by a freaking pill in the US.. where I grew up I dont remember any of my friends or family members taking pills for "mental illness"... and here is my point... is an "Instant Gratitication" problem..
Look up the Thud experiment. I duno y diagnosed people complain though, do you know how many jams ive been able to get out of, for supposedly being ADD, Bi polar, and schizophrenic. Avoided legal disputes, avoided teen poverty (sell your drugs, to stupid white suburban kids who love to get high off shit like clozapine & ritalin) transfering to supervised schools kept me out of teen peer pressure or trouble within my social circle. Just agree with ur friendly psych, n he might claim 'normality'
i believe this 100 percent. I am 37 years old and have seen dozens of psychiatrists since the age of 13. i have been diagnosed with everything you can think of! The only time I have done well with my life is when I decided to handle my life on my own. Some of the stuff shrinks say are horrible. And I guarantee you if you go to a psychiatrists today he or she will put you on some kind of drug. the last doctor I saw told me she thought my mother loved me but she wasnt sure.

A man I know was diagnosed with schizophrenia while in a hospital. I have sat for hours with this man and his family and would have never imagined him to be insane. Now he has recovered enough to go back home and has been cleared by the doctors of any mental health problems. the psychiatric process is one that undergos the same peer review all other medical processees undergo. The most efficacious solutions become common practice. Can mental illness be resolved without drugs? in some cases yes--but in the cases in which it is less efficacious not to medicate, medicate. As a psychology student, I understand that sometimes using drugs can make my practice more effective; I also understand that sometimes the problem lies beyond the scope of my field.

Spoke with a friend last night recently diagnosed with bipolar. She was molested as a child and raped 7 years ago. She has physical pain and fatigue from fibromyalgia. She's not bipolar she is suffering from abuse inflicted on her with no justice or resolution. But now she is on antidepressants and antipsychotics. Well, with any and all medical professions, there is a significant risk in taking medications to treat ailments. And anyone can throw together a video to show the negative sides of something, but I've been to several psychiatrists, and I was rarely prescribed anything. I tried Prozac and Wellbutrin, to treat depression, which I walked myself into there offices to have treated. And while we cannot say that any of the drugs on the market might cure these ailments, there's no doubt that it exists.

Psychiatry is pseudoscience, they can not still prove that the imbalance of some chemicals in the brain are solely responsible for the cause of emotional problems like stress and depression; which in fact is the stimulus that cause the imbalance, not the other way around.
Their test are highly biased and disregard the external stimulus, as the cause of such imbalances, and diet as a potential influence

Frankly this video is bullshit. It takes guts to be a Psychiatrist as they put up with this crap every day, even from their own physician colleagues, whilst working with some of the most vulnerable members of society - genuinely ill and requiring treatment and support. Good Psychiatrists carefully exclude non cases so people are NOT given drugs inappropriately and spot many missed medical diagnoses, as they are "proper doctors" . I remember a time I was taken to a psychologist named Irma, I was taken there because of my grades beign in hell. Month after month she talked with my parents to restrict me from my hobbies more and more, staying late, play videogames more than 3 hours daily etc.
Eventually I was so pissed off at her that I simply decided to raise my grades to heavenly levels to cease to visit her, I never completed the treatment.
What did psychology did? Just piss me off.

This reminds me so much of the addiction rehab business. It uses the same paradigm of a chronic progressive brain disease. The only major difference I see between the two is that psychiatry relies on medications while the addiction specialists use 12 step support groups. Then there's the ultimate irony of a dual diagnosis of addiction and mental illness, which is very common.

Psychiatry is for depressed and mentally ill people that have serious, detectable problems directly related to the mind and how it works. It's not for people that use their mental state as a scapegoat for their own stupidity and inability to live a semi-normal life. True, greed can seep in, as it can in any other profession. I've just known too many who have been hoodwinked into thinking all of their emotional issues are beyond there ability to solve. what people dont understand is that they are pathologising and medicating OUR DIVERSITY. Human variance is natural ...some ppl are naturally more hyper than others or sadder or happier than others....they also fail to take into acccount more recntly the food additives and computer time for kids thus instead of advising better diet and more activitiy they prescribe medication. I've found out the hard way that psychiatry is a business. Every psychiatrist I've dealt with is looking to prescribe drugs and not deal with the real issues too much. Cognitive behavior therapy with exposure is the only true area of psychiatry that really helps people, and even then its very hard to find someone thats not charging outrageous rates.

I'm a medical student right now taking psychopathology, and the errors in this trailer alone are too many to point out here. THIS fear-based $movie$ is biased. They don't mention/interview the millions helped by psychiatry. The science of psychiatry is objective. It hasnt proven everything, but being able to say "we don't know this yet" is a strength of science, not a weakness...what you should watch for are people who pretend they know it all, like the makers of this bogus movie.

I have manic episodes in the summer because of it taking a long time for me to wind down and sleep getting dark later and have lost it a few times but meds didn't help me. I was labeled early on and function higher than most and I can't deny the people helped by this field and think it has a high level of assholes on both end who make those who want to help and are sick look bad... and as someone who was harmed from this and is unbiased enough to say what I did, I wish we were validated.

All of the Mental-Health professionals need to be moved to gated communities so progressive introduction of confinement procedures for their own protection can become intensified. Does anyone know more about experiments like ROSENHAN EXPERIMENT? Being a psychiatrist the result of Rosenhan Experiment is a true bitter taste. This experiment is amazing. Not only does it investigate false diagnosis schizophrenia, but also the most incredible discoveries appear after being admitted to the hospital. Rosenhan's group become almost a perfect experiment group in regard to real patients admitted to hospital.

I went to a psychiatrist when I was 16, he diagnosed me acute bipolar and recommended I see a therapist regarding my issues.
I never have to take drugs, and I only have to visit twice a year now, quite a contrast to the beginning where i would go once a week. I have been stable & happy for over 5 years since then.
This video is a blatant lie, I admit pharma companies like pfizer are evil but c'mon - they've obviously taken every bit of bad they can find, and totally ignored anything good.

Look up the Thud experiment. I duno y diagnosed people complain though, do you know how many jams ive been able to get out of, for supposedly being ADD, Bi polar, and schizophrenic. Avoided legal disputes, avoided teen poverty (sell your drugs, to stupid white suburban kids who love to get high off shit like clozapine & ritalin) transfering to supervised schools kept me out of teen peer pressure or trouble within my social circle. i believe this 100 percent. I am 37 years old and have seen dozens of psychiatrists since the age of 13. i have been diagnosed with everything you can think of! The only time I have done well with my life is when I decided to handle my life on my own. Some of the stuff shrinks say are horrible. And I guarantee you if you go to a psychiatrists today he or she will put you on some kind of drug. the last doctor I saw told me she thought my mother loved me but she wasnt sure.
