i am planning on going to disneyland california but people say its too old and not worth it and very dissapointing so is it true what they say?? i want to know so i can book my visit there

This job must be terrifying. You have to pray the dragon moves to the correct position to where the fire doesn't point towards you, pray the pressure makes sure the fire dosent go to far, so many factors.

Between this dragon and tokyo's fantasmic dragon, both are uniquely featuring great features. Disneyland has the "size" and the effect that the dragon came to life from the screen. The tokyo comes to life through the screen literally. All in all, I love both dragons. :)
I will always remember the first time I saw Fantasmic as a child in Disneyland. That was the night I fell in love with the Disney Villains, namely Maleficent. I've been to Disney parks six times since then and every time I see this show, even though I know how it ends, I still hope that Maleficent will succeed. Obviously, I always leave disappointed. :/

Dragon appearance always reminds me of Ronnie James Dio Sacred Heart Tour show in 1985. Rest in Peace RJD! WDW doesn't have this version of the dragon, yet, but the one it has is great non the less. I'm partial to WDW only because I've been there over 30 times in my lifetime and never been to Disneyland. But if I get there, I'll enjoy it just the same, because it's a DISNEY PARK/RESORT.

@skellington15 Ya, sometimes Murphey doesn't come out. It's a big dragon, and sometimes there are a few technical difficulties that come with it. :( But they're getting better at it!

Yep. To this day, I haven't gotten to see it. We have terrible luck with this attraction. Last time, we waited two whole hours in front of the lake so we would have good spots, only for it to be announced -in the last 15 minutes!- that it would be cancelled due to "bad weather conditions"! There was barely a breeze! All the kids were crying, it was terrible having to go home like that.

they are still working on the dragon. when mickey's firework pops from his sword a firework is supost to pop in murphey's mouth but it doesn't always work
I like the new upgraded dragon. It is much better than the frame and fabric dragon in the previous version. What is most impressive though is that the new dragon shoots fire some 20+ feet away now as opposed to the 10 feet as before. Now the flames can actually hit the water thus improving the illusion of the water actually catching on fire.
To tell you the truth I'm not a big fan of Murphy. Don't get me wrong we do need change and this is great but, Murphy just seems like another animatronic to me, because I see a lot now a days. I guess I grew to fond of the old dragon, to appreciate this one :< Please don't give me a thumbs down just because I'm not a BIG fan of Murphy.

Not sure what you mean by "see a lot now a days", do you work for Disneyland or with animatronics? Nonetheless, you have to consider that the dragon is one of the biggest animatronic they have ever had, so it's not just like another animatronic in terms of size and what it can do.

@hahayezzar Just FYI WDW has been getting alot of the stuff sent out to the from the DLR, so yes they may have some originals but they also have a lot of stuff that originiated in California and was packed up and sent WDW
@PrismPhoenix WDW doesnt have a pit under the stage because its a swamp....so its all most impossible to have a dragon like that roll out the side of the mountain......
This is far better than the older dragon. Fantasmic is like the best show ever. Even the Remember...Dreams Come True fireworks show. Nobody can beat Disneyland or WDW.

The new dragon is a really huge animatronic! The moves are programmed this time instead of a CM controlling it with a joystick (which was the case for the old one)

I think I actually like the OLD dragon better. While I will agree this one has a much better overall shape, its movements seem too slow and mechanical. Disneyland entertainment should have had Walt Disney Imagineering build the dragon. It would have moved a lot better...
I agree, but the programming is not finished yet. It'll be another few months before they get it to bend over and set the river on fire and move faster. Remember, they were set back a few months after it was damaged.
I beg to differ, but the dragon did indeed get damaged on June 7 which I belive was 5 days before its scheduled debut. The head DID NOT fall off, the the framing in the neck began to get stress fractures. But who cares, IT's HERE NOW!!!!!!!!
The head DID fall off. I have a friend that has been working there for over 30 years and knows what he's talking about. My boyfriend also works there and reported that the head DID in fact, fall off at 6:00 AM during a testing period for the dragon. They were testing for the emergency stops for the dragon and the head blew off, smacked into the chest and stomach of the dragon, damaging it for the summer. It's been working for two weeks now after 5 tests.
I don't know, the side that i heard from numerous employees was that the neck had some type of failure and it ceased to continue supporting the head, which then dipped down and smacked the chest. That's just the side I heard.
We finally got to see the new dragon on person this week while in California for the D23 Expo. Didn't spit fire last night but it did tonight and it looked great!
I'm a huge WDW fan and I also rather the Hollywood Studios Fantasmic version (the theming and I also think the Pocahontas part is a lot more exciting and thrilling), BUT Disneyland Fantasmic deserved this new and awesome dragoon ! I think with the Sleeping Beauty castle, now the dragon founded a pretty home :)
Well, hopefully you guys will get a new dragon soon. I haven't been to WDW yet but I've seen enough videos of FL's Fantasmic! to convince me that your show is overdue for some updates.
Disneyland fanatics should also get excited another return of Captain EO. WDI is installing new Captain EO special effects to prepare the theater for Thur's private performance Jay Rasulo for the D23 Expo. It will remain till Halloween & return Jan-Dec 2010!
They warn people ahead of time that Fantasmic may be frightening for younger viewers. Everything can't be baby friendly, they'd lose a lot of business.

@hahayezzar Just FYI WDW has been getting alot of the stuff sent out to the from the DLR, so yes they may have some originals but they also have a lot of stuff that originiated in California and was packed up and sent WDW

@PrismPhoenix WDW doesnt have a pit under the stage because its a swamp....so its all most impossible to have a dragon like that roll out the side of the mountain......

This is far better than the older dragon. Fantasmic is like the best show ever. Even the Remember...Dreams Come True fireworks show. Nobody can beat Disneyland or WDW.

The new dragon is a really huge animatronic! The moves are programmed this time instead of a CM controlling it with a joystick (which was the case for the old one)

I think I actually like the OLD dragon better. While I will agree this one has a much better overall shape, its movements seem too slow and mechanical. Disneyland entertainment should have had Walt Disney Imagineering build the dragon. It would have moved a lot better...

I agree, but the programming is not finished yet. It'll be another few months before they get it to bend over and set the river on fire and move faster. Remember, they were set back a few months after it was damaged.

I beg to differ, but the dragon did indeed get damaged on June 7 which I belive was 5 days before its scheduled debut. The head DID NOT fall off, the the framing in the neck began to get stress fractures. But who cares, IT's HERE NOW!!!!!!!!

The head DID fall off. I have a friend that has been working there for over 30 years and knows what he's talking about. My boyfriend also works there and reported that the head DID in fact, fall off at 6:00 AM during a testing period for the dragon. They were testing for the emergency stops for the dragon and the head blew off, smacked into the chest and stomach of the dragon, damaging it for the summer. It's been working for two weeks now after 5 tests.

I don't know, the side that i heard from numerous employees was that the neck had some type of failure and it ceased to continue supporting the head, which then dipped down and smacked the chest. That's just the side I heard.

OMG ! It is BRILLANT !
I'm a huge WDW fan and I also rather the Hollywood Studios Fantasmic version (the theming and I also think the Pocahontas part is a lot more exciting and thrilling), BUT Disneyland Fantasmic deserved this new and awesome dragoon ! I think with the Sleeping Beauty castle, now the dragon founded a pretty home :)
Now, hoping for a new changes at WDW version *-*

Disneyland fanatics should also get excited another return of Captain EO. WDI is installing new Captain EO special effects to prepare the theater for Thur's private performance Jay Rasulo for the D23 Expo. It will remain till Halloween & return Jan-Dec 2010!
