@ashleelmb Thanks. The trick is to use wit and a bit of handy knowledge in the right balance. I've found that even easily-counterable wit on top of a good fact frustrates the po-faced to a standstill. You don't need to be a great brain - in fact I'm pretty slow.

One tip I will give in a debate is to play to the audience, as the politicians do. There's more of them than there is the single, often irate opponent. That thought can keep you calm and lets you contextualise the debate.
