The Scripture does say that hell was originally for the rebellious angels that went with Lucifer who became the devil and rebelled against God. I don't have every answer. Jesus is not the truth nor the way or the sheppard, Jesus if he really existed, was no more than a man as you and I are. He might have had some personal understanding that was somewhat more rational for it's time, but to say that he came to rescue humanity from it's own self than that's an error of the creator, so all he's doing, is sending his son to suffer and die so he could bring him back to life and all this just to fix an error in his creation? I am an atheist yet I know the bible better than most Christians, I have read up on many arguments for and against religion and I have found atheism to be the only logical choice. If you know your bible and understand covenants and the covenant He had with Israel then you will understand the New Covenant as in (The New Testament) that is all fulfilled in Christ. (God himself coming to earth as our Savior). It's not that it doesn't count but the Lord has given us all a more excellent way through faith in His son Jesus.

@jrmex80 there are 40,000 versions of Christianity on the earth - there is only supposed to be one. A lot of the elements of religion old and new that has a Christian name is often just the works of men. Not necessarily Christianity as it should be. To say the Bible is an old and outdated book and write it ALL off is a rash uninformed view. You would probably find that most of its wisdom and truth you would agree with. Jesus IS the TRUTH.

@jrmex80 Jesus fulfilled the law that he made and knew man could not keep. The law was just a forshadow of truth that was to come - Jesus Christ. Faith is now in Him not laws. God moved on and so should you. The sword is not literal -it is His Word. The word unfortunately divides men because it is the truth, you are either blinded to it or can see it. To practice religion the way a Christian does would be like practicing medicine the old way, bleeding people and working with magical remedies. I don't see how we practice medicine, farm the land, understand the cosmos and do many things we do different now, but you go by a book that's old and outdate? If Jesus was the son of god and god sent him to die the way he did, then he is not just cruel but also immoralm, and he didn't even really die. So no he did not die for me or you or anyone else.

I have a question, why are you a Christian? Why not a Hindu or Muslim or Buddist etc. What makes Christianity more credible than all the other major religions?

It's true and real. Christianity is not a religion, was never meant to be. Knowing God is a relationship with Him that is experienced in everyday life as well as the gift of eternal life.

@jrmex80 Not evading at all. It's not my book, it's God's. Understand your concerns - one's faith is not based around Old Testament, we live in New Testament era and faith is in what God did in Christ by his sacrifice for us, the OT foreshadows New Testament truth. Cain had murder in his heart and God knew it that is why God was displeased with his offering. He killed his brother - sin. Leviticus can appear gruesome but again foreshadows God's sacrifice through his son Jesus for our sins.
@jrmex80 The midianites were enemies of Israel and in those days as with many OT commands they seem cruel and they are. And much of the old law was related to purifying and keeping a 'separated people'. God knew man could not keep the many laws that is why Christ died on the cross as the sacrificial lamb and nailed them all forever. It is now through faith, grace and love that you connect with God, not unobtainable laws.

The reason you seem to be so close minded is that you take all your knowledge from the bible. Can you explain god's behavior in Chronicles 21:9-14, or how about Deuteronomy 3:1-7? If this is where you turn to, to get morals, I would advice to look in other books, documentaries, articles... This world is full useful information that can give you a more real understanding of life. God can only exist in your mind through a learned process. God is learned from a young age and there you are now...
@jrmex80 John 3 - Jesus says you MUST be born again to SEE and ENTER the Kingdom of God. Revelation of God and His Son and what He did for all humanity in His New Covenant comes at any age when your spirit is re-born. Sure there are great things to learn from many sources in the world, however TRUTH and SALVATION is in Christ. He sets you FREE. 'Close minded' ...no, Christ opens up your mind to the great possibilities for your life through faith in Him and the gift of eternal life He gives.
@jrmex80 God exists in your heart through faith in an instant. You then are at peace with your creator and you spend the rest of your life building and developing that relationship, like any relationship, time builds, strengthens, and brings wisdom and insight. Programmed...no...faith is a choice of your heart humbled before God, knowing He is your creator. I don't need to expand my 'search'...when you are found and you find the Lord the 'search' is over. You just need to get to KNOW Him.
And on the religion thing, I'm glad we agree and I would highly recommend, conversations with god by Neal Donald Walsh. That's the book that pushed me to find what I was looking for.

At the end of the day it all gets down to your own relationship with god that in the precepts of scripture is though Christ Jesus. When you read the gospels just ask the Lord to open your eyes to the truth of the Word
So you see, I have decided to keep it simple. I no longer have the blindfold of religion or faith. I believe in moral values, I believe in life, I believe every human is created equal, I believe in treating others as i would like to be treated. Life is one for everyone, we are here to enjoy it and to leave a something useful to our future generations. Beyond that our universe and what we know about it makes up my understanding of how we have come to be.
@jrmex80 What you believe in are good things, but the scriptures say that even our best own righteousness is not enough. The sacrifice of Christ and his resurrection is what does it for all mankind. We just have to believe so it's not something we do but what He did for us as a free gift. That's the thing with Jesus, and god, and the holy spirit, and the virgin, and the saints. You have to pray to all kinds of mystic figures. And lets say we keep it to the holy trinity, do I pray to god, to Jesus, to the holy spirit? Because what you are telling me, is that to get to god I have to start with the holy spirit, which will show me the way to god but then before I can get to god I have to go trough Jesus but to find Jesus i have to go to the right place if not I'll find Hera or Rama

These may all sound like cliches but it is the truth. The bible is very clear. You pray to the Father in the name of Jesus. @jrmex80 Buddha, Mohammed, Mary, the saints or any other deity will never get you to God the Father. Relationship is believing simply that Christ died for your sins, washed them away and made you a new person in his eyes. The reality of your faith is seeing Christ work in your life by the Holy Spirit day to day. The simplicity is ask him till he answers. Once you are at peace with that, the rest is just living and learning and walking with jesus day to day.
I've read the bible enough to gain an understanding of what it is trying to say and frankly, it makes no sence, it is not accurate and it contains information that could have been written by any HUMAN of the time and place. I was a believer for about 25 years and I can say that, given the way religion has behaved through out history I would never go back to any religious organization no matter how bad my life seemed to be. Even if I did believe in a god, religion is nothin more than a sham.

So many non-believers/atheists etc were once with hearts for God but religion and all is variable deceptions seems to shock it out of them, either traditional or modern. Its probably a great thing that you are out of oppressive organized religion. The book of revelation says 'Come out of her my people' You my friend in the greatest of places to find a living relationship with God.
@jrmex80 The Bible only makes complete sense by the Spirit of God. So just ask the Holy Spirit in your own way to help you understand. The best place to start is Johns Gospel. 25 years is a long time to be in something that has proved useless to you. There are many in that place. But hope is not lost. Just humbly ask God to show you the truth, through Christ, and I pray yours eyes and heart are enlightened to a real, tactile, powerful relationship with Jesus.

@Reauit The reason why we have connected is your Father in heaven won't let you go even if you think you have let Him go. You don't need a sign, the scripture says you walk by faith not signs. Jesus said in John 3:7 you MUST be born again. That is your spirit is made alive by faith in Christ and what he did for you, in dying on the cross for your sins, that is where the RELATIONSHIP begins. I did it as millions of others have - and you change - and it's not always easy. It is a challenge.

@Reauit My Dad was an atheist, and our relationship was strained when I was a teen, I became a Christian and 'attacked' me about it all the time. I prayed for him and after some time God showed himself so real to my dad and he changed dramatically and became a loving dad and our relationship was restored, this was many years ago and he is still strong in his faith at 78. I have prayed today that God will visit you again so it is undeniable for you...
Chances are you believe what you read in the bible. There is one major problem with that though, lets say God really does talk to you and what he says is in opposition to what the bible says. Are you going to believe God himself tells you or what some priest tells you of what God would say?

@Reauit Yes for a Christian the Bible is the Word of God. I have never known God to say anything that is contrary to his Word. Hebrews 4:14-16 says Christ is our priest. You don't need an earthly priest to tell you, you need your own relationship with God. The bible says God has made us priests in Him (Revelation 1:6), the catholic priesthood eg is not something God instituted in the new testament, it is just the traditions of men. One reason why they are having serious abuse issue right now.

What I was asking is if God called you to preach a message contrary to the bible would you? Abraham for example found the gods of his father to be false because he observed they had no power to do anything, so he started following the one true god. Well that's the dilemma that we atheist are in, we see the christian God as Abraham saw his father's god - as having no power. Me and many atheist I know would become believers if God would just show himself.
@Reauit Hi there. I see your point in referring to the Old testament examples, but this was the problem with many pre-christ, they wanted a sign. The pharisees even asked Jesus for one 'proving' he was the Son of God. He replied that the only sign would be that he was raised from the dead after 3 days using the analogy of Jonas and the whale. God WILL reveal himself to you if you ask him in faith. It's so simple really. It may not be the way you expect.
If Jesus was the last sign then I could accept that. Only thing is, there were prophecies he did not fulfill and are averted by saying he will fulfill them when he returns, while in the old testament they said he would do all of them while he was alive. It did not say that he would be peaceful, it said he would rule as a king. In fact the devil as we know him drastically change in the new testament. In the old he was just a servant of God and the serpent was NOT him...

Oh, but there is. I've done a great deal of research and all the facts do match after the formation of Israel as a state. Yet, the exodus itself is sketchy and may have not have been grandeur as it is presented, there is no signs of mass migration. And the new testament came thousands of years later AND it's a well known fact Jesus spoke Aramaic, not Greek. So tell me, how is it that some of what he said only made sense in Greek? It's through faith in Him as your Lord and Saviour, and being filled with the Holy Spirit that everything makes sense, you can't base your faith on something such as the Exodus being sketchy. It is also clear from scripture over million people walked out of Egypt.

What is an almighty god if such a proclaimed obviously has a lack of compassion for which children no matter what their beliefs may be... suffer immensly. Freewill is a very poor excuse if there isn't "ALWAYS" that grand intervention regardless of what people can do. Paul by the way was a Schizophrenic - he had all of the symptoms. The local psyc hospital admits 2 or 3 people like that every week. Jerusalem Syndrome like David Koresh is common - but that doesn't mean any Zoroastrian god is actually real.

The Scripture does say that hell was originally for the rebellious angels that went with Lucifer who became the devil and rebelled against God. I don't have every answer. I love God, and when you get down to choice, to believe, love and know Him, it is better than the alternative not to. Again what you believe in is ultimately up to you. If you are happy being atheist then you have made your choice.

Jesus is not the truth nor the way or the sheppard, Jesus if he really existed, was no more than a man as you and I are. He might have had some personal understanding that was somewhat more rational for it's time, but to say that he came to rescue humanity from it's own self than that's an error of the creator, so all he's doing, is sending his son to suffer and die so he could bring him back to life and all this just to fix an error in his creation? If you know your bible and understand covenants and the covenant He had with Israel then you will understand the New Covenant as in (The New Testament) that is all fulfilled in Christ. And no he is not everyone's God, there are many who worship other Gods who are as convinced and devout, if not more so than you are. I know many muslims personally, I have found that they are actualy more pleasant and kind than most christians that I know.

The definition of belief that you speak of is as follows: Existential claim - to claim belief in the existence of an entity or phenomenon with the implied need to justify its claim to existence. A lot of the elements of religion old and new that has a Christian name is often just the works of men. Not necessarily Christianity as it should be. To practice religion the way a Christian does would be like practicing medicine the old way, bleeding people and working with magical remedies. I don't see how we practice medicine, farm the land, understand the cosmos and do many things we do different now, but you go by a book that's old and outdate? It's true and real. Christianity is not a religion, was never meant to be. Knowing God is a relationship with Him that is experienced in everyday life as well as the gift of eternal life.

@AwesomeCityTV So what? I am no disputing that the bible exists, no one is.But how do you know what the bible says is accurate? You do know it has been translated (which cause parts of it to be changed and others literally 'lost in translation') and purposely changed many many many times?
There is no real reason to choose this 'holy' text over any other like the Qu'ran for example.

Can you explain Genesis 4:3-5 why is god so cruel to his own creation? Or why the detailed explanation of animal sacrifice in Leviticus 1-9? Can you please explain! It's all there in the bible, really. Or explain, Numbers 31:17-18. You should read, letter to a cristian nation by Sam Harris.

@jrmex80 Not evading at all. It's not my book, it's God's. Understand your concerns - one's faith is not based around Old Testament, we live in New Testament era and faith is in what God did in Christ by his sacrifice for us, the OT foreshadows New Testament truth. Cain had murder in his heart and God knew it that is why God was displeased with his offering. He killed his brother - sin. Leviticus can appear gruesome but again foreshadows God's sacrifice through his son Jesus for our sins.

@jrmex80 The midianites were enemies of Israel and in those days as with many OT commands they seem cruel and they are. And much of the old law was related to purifying and keeping a 'separated people'. God knew man could not keep the many laws that is why Christ died on the cross as the sacrificial lamb and nailed them all forever. It is now through faith, grace and love that you connect with God, not unobtainable laws.

The reason you seem to be so close minded is that you take all your knowledge from the bible. Can you explain god's behavior in Chronicles 21:9-14, or how about Deuteronomy 3:1-7? If this is where you turn to, to get morals, I would advice to look in other books, documentaries, articles... This world is full useful information that can give you a more real understanding of life. God can only exist in your mind through a learned process. God is learned from a young age and there you are now...

Revelation of God and His Son and what He did for all humanity in His New Covenant comes at any age when your spirit is re-born. You then are at peace with your creator and you spend the rest of your life building and developing that relationship, like any relationship, time builds, strengthens, and brings wisdom and insight. At the end of the day it all gets down to your own relationship with god that in the precepts of scripture is though Christ Jesus. So you see, I have decided to keep it simple. I no longer have the blindfold of religion or faith. I believe in moral values, I believe in life, I believe every human is created equal, I believe in treating others as i would like to be treated. Life is one for everyone, we are here to enjoy it and to leave a something useful to our future generations. Beyond that our universe and what we know about it makes up my understanding of how we have come to be.

@jrmex80 What you believe in are good things, but the scriptures say that even our best own righteousness is not enough. The sacrifice of Christ and his resurrection is what does it for all mankind. We just have to believe so it's not something we do but what He did for us as a free gift. That is when one understands that true life comes from Him, that He will return and things will change in the future

That's the thing with Jesus, and god, and the holy spirit, and the virgin, and the saints. You have to pray to all kinds of mystic figures. And lets say we keep it to the holy trinity, do I pray to god, to Jesus, to the holy spirit? Because what you are telling me, is that to get to god I have to start with the holy spirit, which will show me the way to god but then before I can get to god I have to go trough Jesus but to find Jesus i have to go to the right place if not I'll find Hera or Rama

@jrmex80 The world's adage is all roads lead to Rome. In the spirit that is not true. jesus said he is 'the way the truth and the life' He is the Saviour of the world. the Son of God. These may all sound like cliches but it is the truth. The bible is very clear. You pray to the Father in the name of Jesus. He is the intermediary between God and man. 1st Timothy 2:5 'for there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ'

@jrmex80 Buddha, Mohammed, Mary, the saints or any other deity will never get you to God the Father. Relationship is believing simply that Christ died for your sins, washed them away and made you a new person in his eyes. The reality of your faith is seeing Christ work in your life by the Holy Spirit day to day. The simplicity is ask him till he answers. Once you are at peace with that, the rest is just living and learning and walking with jesus day to day.

I've read the bible enough to gain an understanding of what it is trying to say and frankly, it makes no sence, it is not accurate and it contains information that could have been written by any HUMAN of the time and place. I was a believer for about 25 years and I can say that, given the way religion has behaved through out history I would never go back to any religious organization no matter how bad my life seemed to be. Even if I did believe in a god, religion is nothin more than a sham.

So many non-believers/atheists etc were once with hearts for God but religion and all is variable deceptions seems to shock it out of them, either traditional or modern. Its probably a great thing that you are out of oppressive organized religion. The book of revelation says 'Come out of her my people' You my friend in the greatest of places to find a living relationship with God.

@jrmex80 The Bible only makes complete sense by the Spirit of God. So just ask the Holy Spirit in your own way to help you understand. The best place to start is Johns Gospel. 25 years is a long time to be in something that has proved useless to you. There are many in that place. But hope is not lost. Just humbly ask God to show you the truth, through Christ, and I pray yours eyes and heart are enlightened to a real, tactile, powerful relationship with Jesus.

@taistelutomaatti Stephen hHawkins is totally deceived, but because he is in a wheel chair people some how feel he has some sort of greater intellectual authority, or perhaps they feel sorry for him. I feel sorry for him that he has come to an atheistic position, like many he has succumbed to the pride of reason and superior intellect and has dismissed faith and God in the process. Stephen loses...he will realize that when hell beckons to him and he understands he was wrong.

Grace and humility accompanied by intelligence seem to be characteristics not often revealed. Atheism isn't a religion, atheists are people who don't believe in god, they don't all belong to the same culture nor share the same pattern of thoughts and actions except for the fact that they don't believe in god.

I'm just stating a fact that the Bible says 'Only a fool says there is no God' I agree with that, you don't. As of 2005 (most recent data), approximately 88 percent of the world's population were said to "believe in God" (Cambridge University). This is down from 96 percent in 2000. In the United States, 95 percent of the population "believe in God." So the percentage of atheists and non-believers who are foolish enough to deny God exists is actually small. I pray that you can get to know Him.

Noah's flood has been proven as a localized event. In fact, the story of Noah was probably plagiarized from the story of Gilgamesh or an earlier Sumerian work. I have seen no mountains ever moved, yet the faith of a mustard seed is all it takes.

@Reauit why attack anything at all? If The Truth is Jesus Christ, then any intelligent person would embark on a discovery to see if that was real. Enlightenment can only come from the source of it. Jesus Christ is the Son of God - we can only 'get it' when we challenge ourselves to know Him as our Saviour. I was a non-believer once and I spoke to God and sincerely asked Him to show me if he was real, and He did. People with humility will seek Truth, not attack others...

@Reauit The reason why we have connected is your Father in heaven won't let you go even if you think you have let Him go. You don't need a sign, the scripture says you walk by faith not signs. Jesus said in John 3:7 you MUST be born again. That is your spirit is made alive by faith in Christ and what he did for you, in dying on the cross for your sins, that is where the RELATIONSHIP begins. I did it as millions of others have - and you change - and it's not always easy. It is a challenge.

I can understand your disillusionment with organised so called Christian religion, as a lot of it leaves much to be desired, however you have swung to the other extreme and thrown the baby out with the bath water. I absolutely value truth, Jesus said he was THE TRUTH, He is the source of all truth, so it's not just about valuing what is perceived as truth, but KNOWING the truth which Jesus the Son of God.

@Reauit I would say if you really KNEW God you would never walk away from HIM, just because you go into a building called a 'church' doesn't make you a Christian. I want to encourage you again to sit down and talk to God as you would a Father, don't ask for a sign but ask Him to show himself to you. Invite Him into your heart to make you re-born so you can see. I did it 30 years ago and in his time he answered and my life changed for the better and I have never looked back.

@Reauit My Dad was an atheist, and our relationship was strained when I was a teen, I became a Christian and 'attacked' me about it all the time. I prayed for him and after some time God showed himself so real to my dad and he changed dramatically and became a loving dad and our relationship was restored, this was many years ago and he is still strong in his faith at 78. I have prayed today that God will visit you again so it is undeniable for you...

@Reauit Yes for a Christian the Bible is the Word of God. I have never known God to say anything that is contrary to his Word. Hebrews 4:14-16 says Christ is our priest. You don't need an earthly priest to tell you, you need your own relationship with God. The bible says God has made us priests in Him (Revelation 1:6), the catholic priesthood eg is not something God instituted in the new testament, it is just the traditions of men. One reason why they are having serious abuse issue right now.

@Reauit Your wager is wrong, as a Christian you can come boldly to him everyday in faith, believing he hears you and you him. I have heard his voice, instruction, correction, leading, advice, etc many times, even when I have been disillusioned with religious church etc, or going through problems which we all have. But it has never rattled my faith because my relationship is solid with Him. If you know Him you don't get swayed by circumstances and others. The Bible is not wrong-believe have faith

What I was asking is if God called you to preach a message contrary to the bible would you? Abraham for example found the gods of his father to be false because he observed they had no power to do anything, so he started following the one true god. Well that's the dilemma that we atheist are in, we see the christian God as Abraham saw his father's god - as having no power. Me and many atheist I know would become believers if God would just show himself.

@Reauit Hi there. I see your point in referring to the Old testament examples, but this was the problem with many pre-christ, they wanted a sign. The pharisees even asked Jesus for one 'proving' he was the Son of God. He replied that the only sign would be that he was raised from the dead after 3 days using the analogy of Jonas and the whale. God WILL reveal himself to you if you ask him in faith. It's so simple really. It may not be the way you expect.

If Jesus was the last sign then I could accept that. Only thing is, there were prophecies he did not fulfill and are averted by saying he will fulfill them when he returns, while in the old testament they said he would do all of them while he was alive. It did not say that he would be peaceful, it said he would rule as a king. In fact the devil as we know him drastically change in the new testament. In the old he was just a servant of God and the serpent was NOT him...

Satan was Lucifer archangel of light (Isaiah and Ezekiel). He became 'satanas' the fallen hairy one, pride - wanted to be God. He became evil. And right through old and new testament history he was and will always be evil, liar, murderer, robber and counterfeiter. The greatest things he wants to do is convince the world that there is no God. He is not an atheist. He just has some people convinced there is no God.

There was no antagonist, the devil was merely there to test us, he was not evil. And if you really examine the text you can see that it is progressive, first God is referred to as the greatest of all the Gods, then as the only God... To many Jews, the new testament is no more cannon than the koran.

Oh, but there is. I've done a great deal of research and all the facts do match after the formation of Israel as a state. Yet, the exodus itself is sketchy and may have not have been grandeur as it is presented, there is no signs of mass migration. And the new testament came thousands of years later AND it's a well known fact Jesus spoke Aramaic, not Greek. So tell me, how is it that some of what he said only made sense in Greek? Interesting to say the least...

@Reauit You still miss the point. The doorway of understanding IS Jesus Christ. It's through faith in Him as your Lord and Saviour, and being filled with the Holy Spirit that everything makes sense, you can't base your faith on something such as the Exodus being sketchy. It is also clear from scripture over million people walked out of Egypt.
