The driver needs to reverse father back and get some momentum to punch through that barrier. Rookie, It sounds good to hear the turbochargers again. I drove one of these in Germany. It was my first RV.
@palonejr I agree with you, the driver must have been afraid of his tank. I trained my drivers to bust through a obs, and to floor it when driving cross country-so we didn't get stuck.
we had two CEV's in the 58th. The two AVLB's were detached and sent to a bridging unit in Hanau. The CEV is an ugly dog! We named our's "Sweathog I" and "Sweathog II".
We have a stripped, rusting hulk of a CEV sitting in our motorpool right now. I have seriously contemplated sneaking down there in the middle of the night and gutting an AVLB for parts and getting that beast running again. Sadly before my time...
another reply here- was with 58th engr company 11th ACR 71-74 (CEV), fort lewis wa 74-76(only CEV west of rocky mountains, csc 1/35 arm(AVLB) 76-79, 8th engr Bn 79-82 (CEV) where I started gunnery program for all cevs at fort hood.
a guy pointed me to this vid and it sure was good to see a cev again, I also was with the 8th engrs-79 to 82, and other avlb and cev assignments-loved those vehicles. any old 12Fs out there?
I was in the 23d engineers in the late 60's (67 to 69) in Hanau, Hessen Homberg Kaserene. I was in HHC, Bn. Maint. and drove one of the M88 tank retrievers. (HQ89 - ser# 9B4380) HQ88 was the other one, ser# 9B4372. I totaled HQ89 in Graf coming down the side of a mountain towing an M728. The towbar snapped and I took out the left final drive. Ahh, the memories.
Ahhhh good old Lamboi Strasse....many fond drinking memories in and around Hanau and frankfurt...cant remember the numbers off my old CEV but I do remember in REFORGER 81 anyting we slowed down to a crawl I jumped out with a hammer and the laoder had socket wrench and we would tighten up the wedge bolts on the track as it was rolling....kept us from tossing the track off like alot of other guys!!! and all the Graf memories.....165lbs a high explosive main rounds BOOM
I was with the 58th from 72 to 74 (june), for awhile just before I shipped out they put me in the adm plt. for a long time I was the only NCO in the section. remember Gardener or freeman?
I can't remember your name off hand, mine was SGT Root, if you were not able to tell from my email address- ssggbroot@netscape.net.
sorry it took so long to get back to you, but work has been very hard lately.

It was good to see the old M60 CEV again.
You never forget the sound of those treads squeaking or the turbocharger on the diesel.
