@torqueadam well there are lots of candidates! "fatal frame" for example is said to resemble this game, but it's Japanese so you get a schoolgirl going through a haunted house. but the gore is minimal. I've played RE 2&4, I thought those were successful in creating the right atmosphere. silent hill 2 as well. I personally enjoy a good storyline with layers. so I'd say silent hill2 and 5 are worth playing.

I kinda like the mannequin part in Nightmare house 2 more than this for two reasons. First of all, they don't look like anything. They're just bland, white bodies. I find it creepier. And second, there's absolutely no music or sound. In Condemned, there's constantly some random noise in the background and the mannequins make a really loud noise every time they move. It's not as scary.

Sorry to be a pedantic ass, but Condemned was released on November 15, 2005 in north America, while the first appearance of weeping angels was in the Doctor Who episode "Blink" that was first broadcast on 9 June 2007, based on a short story written by Steven Moffat in 2006.

So if anything, This inspired the Weeping Angels, not the other way round.
